Thread 13. We had a debate about whether there should be a new one but if no one answers this the whole series after 8 years plus will come to their end.

Brexit happened, although one time Leavers do not seem to appreciate this.
It's worth noting I think that Brexit was a Tory initiative and the Tory party has just received its worse electoral thrashing since 1832. Could it be entirely unrelated?

What next? A gradual rapprochement with the EU? A Norway style agreement?

Elton John's net worth is estimated at US$500+ million. So, why would he be bothered?

For all your words, stats and proficient Googling, you really don't have a clue about people do you GlobeTrotter2000 ?

Welll, if you aren't a people it stands to reason you wouldn't understand how they think. The concept of giving a shit for people less advantaged than you is a bit advanced for an AI.

You all have taps at home, right?

Oh Louise this is just plain out cheeky and hypocritical of you! You were the person regularly proclaiming higher environmental standards as a Brexit benefit.

In any event… "Among all methods, washing (tap water) is known as the most common and efficient method of pesticide residue removal in general households [15]. However, as many pesticides are hydrophobic, washing with tap water is inefficient for pesticide residue removal [16]. Cooking is known to be effective at removing some volatile pesticides but is ineffective at removing less volatile pesticides [11]." (Italics added)

Effectiveness of Different Washing Strategies on Pesticide Residue Removal: The First Comparative Study on Leafy Vegetables

Leafy vegetables are used in various cuisines worldwide; however, as they cannot be peeled and their leaf surface area is large, the risk of retaining pesticide residues on these vegetables is relatively higher than on others. To our knowledge, this is...

Meanwhile, the winter fuel allowance for pensioners is being reduced under means testing.

Don't bother sticking your oar in with fake sympathy for poor pensioners. I am one myself, and I know a significant number who quite openly say they don't need the Winter Fuel Allowance.

AI doesn't understand what it writes. The same way evolution doesn't understand the mechanism of natural selection. Both are merely the result of series of complex stochastic systems.

Whether intelligence - let alone consciousness - is an emergent property of such systems is narrowly debated in a world where you cannot buy an "AI" free anything these days.

I rest my case 👩‍⚖️

More AI goodiness. If you can imagine a very expensive printing machine connected to the output of a blender into which had been fed some pages primary school children had been asked to cut out for a project called "hurricane" you are spot on.

Now you - or your company - might want to spend billions on this, rather than wages and conditions. But personally I wouldn't.

When an AI can carry clean laundry upstairs picking up lego as it goes
THEN I will worry

MaybeNotBob · 27/09/2024 20:53

AI not very good at empathy.

Strangely enough, neither are Brexshiteers...

MaybeNotBob · 27/09/2024 22:32

Oh, Frosty the No Man, I wonder why that would be?

Stephen Fry becomes an Austrian citizen. Good for him, as one who lost great grandparents in the Holocaust.

Not like those Leave Brexit hypocrites who rushed to get their Irish passports.

Sorry, I can't get a link to work but a quick google will bring up enough links for you.

Austria ?
Really ?
Stephen Fry clearly does not properly follow Austrian politics then.

Peregrina · 28/09/2024 15:56

I believe that he does, and now as a citizen he will be entitled to vote. So he can vote against the right wing.

The right wing are utterly barking as well as extreme

@SerendipityJane I’d share that sentiment with others if you had a source? Just told a company today that I was sick of pointless chatbots.

Just ask ChatGPT . It immediately returns :

We're not far off the "Battle of the bots", where governments try and tell us that "AI" has said that "Beans are great" and an entire counterculture of AI sceptics produce proof that they make you fart. Who to believe ?

Weird. Mention AI and ....

Peregrina · 01/10/2024 12:35

I assume Globetrotter that you chose to mention me because I told you to wind your neck in about winter fuel payments. You don't know what you are talking about. I am not a Labour supporter so I am not going to answer for their policies.
