It's going to be 4 years since we withdrew our membership in European Union. Apart from the passport colour (some people might prefer) can anyone name one positive change which happened since then.

That's fab. There's some really positive benefits being highlighted on this thread. Pay rises are great. More money for nhs is great. The vaccine speed was great. It would be nice if remainers could acknowledge these rather than pretend it hasnt happened.

Who has had a pay rise and was it above inflation?

arethereanyleftatall · 06/12/2023 10:24

I have. Yes. Maybe read the thread rather than stubbornly refuse to see anything that doesn't fit your narrative.

The NHS Budget has been increased by 18%.

Is that related to Brexit?

HowNice23 · 06/12/2023 10:43

My partner's an electrical fitter and he has changed jobs three times in the last three or four years leapfrogging up the pay scale. He'd been trying for years but the industry was benefitting from cheap labour from abroad and he never got a nibble. He puts that down to Brexit although neither of us would call ourselves Brexiteers in general.

TheSuggestedAmendment · 06/12/2023 10:46

It’s weird.

OP: Demands ONE benefit of Brexit
Posters: Here are a few
OP:

The whole Brexit thing would have gone much better if both sides had acknowledged that there were pros and cons to the other’s position.

Less retired british people in my home country using our healthcare
( I'm just joking!)

You mean the UK right?

HowNice23 · 06/12/2023 10:49

And just to add regarding standard of living relating to pay increases he was in a position to pay for my share of our summer holiday and other generous things this year, so yes I'd say his and by association mine and my kids have benefitted to some degree.

Alohapotato · 06/12/2023 10:51

AlisonDonut · 06/12/2023 10:46

Lol, have you seen how many retired British are living in Portugal, Spain, France , Cyprus etc and etc? Using the local healthcare ( most of tgem are better than the NHS) and they don'tbother to learn and speak a word of the local language ...

jgw1 · 06/12/2023 10:55

AlisonDonut · 06/12/2023 10:46

You mean the UK right?

I thought that was a result of covid?

verdantverdure · 06/12/2023 10:57

The only benefit I can think of is that we've all seen Brexit now.

Our children are growing up under its shadow.

In a couple of years we'll rejoin the EU and everyone but the tiny % of fanatics will put it behind us and start rebuilding the damage.

And we won't contemplate doing anything so obviously stupid again in my lifetime.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/12/2023 09:54

A pay rise is only a win, if it buys an improved standard of living.

And preferably for more than one bloke.

I earn more than I did a few years ago but due to mortgage energy and food price rises our situation is worse.

andymary · 06/12/2023 10:19

An extra £350m / week works out to 18.2 Billion per year. The increase that went into effect is actually 28 Billion extra for this year. So they actually over delivered 👌

Even still - in regards to the whole £350 million bus sign fiasco... it didn't actually say that an extra £350mill / week would be given to the NHS.
It said: "We send the EU £350 million a week. Let's fund our NHS instead."
Nowhere did it say that the NHS would get the full £350 million extra, it just said let's give our own NHS more money instead of sending it the EU.

It’s inferred though. On such weasel words many a vote was bought and then betrayed.

the U.K. has been massively destabilised and I don’t see my children benefitting from the relatively comfortable and stable upbringing I enjoyed.

The UK got covid vaccinations approved and ready for use despite EU regulations. Does that count?

This was disproved. Another myth

squeekychicken · 06/12/2023 11:14

Dual market access for NI and the chances of a united Ireland have increased.

Chickpea17 · 06/12/2023 11:15

How about the fact that the majority of the country wanted to leave and the government finally came through on something?

ssd · 06/12/2023 11:17

Has anyone given a true real benefit yet?

9outof10cats · 06/12/2023 11:17

What people seem to forget is that in the last 4 years, not only was there Brexit, but a pandemic and a war in Ukraine, all of which have affected the economy in a major way.

The shit show we are all experiencing is not just down to Brexit.

jgw1 · 06/12/2023 11:21

ssd · 06/12/2023 11:17

Has anyone given a true real benefit yet?

Yes, I did.

We have taken back control of our borders.
We are no longer governed by unelected people who are hugely distant from the rest of us.

It wasn't inferred. If voters can't read and understand each party's mandate correctly, then they shouldn't be voting at all. That's like saying you play the lottery, and expect to win the jackpot, just because it says "Jackpot must be won!".

Petrol price increases, food price increases, electricity price increases, water price increases, destabilised economy...oh yes, because I always see in the news that all these things are blamed for by Brexit. Come on, be serious!

You can't honestly still be blaming all of that on Brexit, and ignore the current world affairs such as War in Ukraine, War in Israel, recovering from the monetary effects of Covid, knockback effects from international elections, immigration etc.

Yes a few have if you read back

Has it? If you look at the rest of the world you’ll see increased destabilisation. The U.K. feels comparatively stable for my dc tbh

100% correct. Really don't see how others don't see it!
Still trying to blame everything on Brexit, and ignore the current world affairs such as War in Ukraine, War in Israel, recovering from the monetary effects of Covid, knockback effects from international elections, immigration etc.

Some people have shown themselves to be still in thrall to the oft-repeated lies.

verdantverdure · 06/12/2023 11:39

Chickpea17 · 06/12/2023 11:15

How about the fact that the majority of the country wanted to leave and the government finally came through on something?

  1. The population of the U.K. is 67-68 million.

Only 17 million voted for Brexit.

How is that a majority of British people?

  1. Brexit voters seem to have voted for several different Brexits. At one point it was all "Nobody is threatening to leave the single market. That would be mad" and at other points it was "No Deal Go Go WTO!"

At all points Brexit supporters say they know what they voted for. (More cancer causing pesticides and fewer jobs paying over £38,700 for British people so far)

  1. Brexit is "done" in that we have left the EU, but it isn't implemented yet. Because it can't be.

The border checks would obviously be so damaging that the government has little choice but to keep kicking that can down the road until after the next EU referendum or until we rejoin the single market and customs union, whichever comes first. It can't be long now.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/12/2023 11:46

My children have dual nationality which makes them more attractive employees than lots of other British children.
