It's going to be 4 years since we withdrew our membership in European Union. Apart from the passport colour (some people might prefer) can anyone name one positive change which happened since then.

We were lied to. It's not our fault we were lied to.

It's our fault that enough people were gullible enough to believe that nonsense.

allmyliesaretrue · 05/12/2023 23:28

No.

TheSuggestedAmendment · 05/12/2023 23:28

We were able to take lots of Hong Kong passport holders who had been UK Citizens and had been previously denied the right to come to Britain.

They hadn't been UK citizens until the current government decided to change the rules.

It’s a shortcut to building relationships when I meet a new person from eg Italy, I apologise for Brexit and they see me as someone to be honest with.

Apart from that, shit all.

Anothernewname123 · 05/12/2023 23:39

It prompted my DH to finally apply for the EU passports that he and the kids are entitled to (only I lost the benefit of freedom of movement in our house Sad).

But on a macro scale, nothing.

And that was a good and important thing that we changed the rules. A Brexit benefit.

HannibalHeyes · 05/12/2023 23:48

It showed us truly how much of the population were either racist or stupid.

Otherwise it's all been spectacularly disastrous...

Costacoffeeplease · 05/12/2023 23:54

This ⬆️

AlltheFs · 05/12/2023 23:56

It’s a bit specific to me but we bought this house due to Brexit- we’d waited a decade for a house in this small village (no-one leaves as it’s so lovely) and the german couple that lived here sold up and went back to Germany specifically because of Brexit.

So I can’t really complain to be fair. We got the life we were after. Soz. Appreciate it’s slightly less convenient for everyone else…..

My salary went up. Swimming teacher. Found ourselves with not enough swimming teachers and they had to increase our salary to get us to work more.

It's the reason many people voted Brexitas far as I'm aware. In the hope that some of the lower paid jobs would have salary rises once there wasn't the surplus of potential employees.

Same with hospitality, I'm a cafe owner so bad for me but the staff are winning as their rates have rocketed

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/12/2023 01:00

Has their standard of living rocketed with their pay rise @fuckssaaaaake?

We have taken back control of our borders, so we can choose how many migrants to let into the country. Additionally we no longer have our laws deciced by unelected bureaucrats, which is why the foreign secretary is unelected and migration is booming.

It's hilarious isn't it? All this control of borders stuff? The UK was able to do far more under EU rules than it actually did, so those voting for brexit for this reason were actually handing total control to the party who weren't doing all they could in the first place. Talk about own goal.

Unrelated to that, the other thing that makes me laugh is when the Brexiteers go on about all the EU laws that have been imposed on us. This is bollocks as there has never been an EU law imposed on any member country. They could not be passed without the MEPs agreement.

I also laugh about Farage being the forefront of how bad the EU is. How would he know? He was never there.

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious. I work(ed) in financial services, and all the jobs have gone to Frankfurt, Madrid, and elsewhere in Europe. It's a complete disaster.

There's a brilliant way you can stop it ever coming up again- just list a few!

Just say the point you're trying to make? If there is one?

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/12/2023 09:54

A pay rise is only a win, if it buys an improved standard of living.

Surelyitscoffeetime · 06/12/2023 10:00

Get stamps on our passports when we go to Europe now.

That is all.

Op, you forgot to say "genuine question" in your opener.

Ha although they did start this in the right topic for a change not AIBU, kudos

The NHS Budget has been increased by 18%.

I heard there was £350million extra a week for the NHS, which if it is indeed is an 18% increase means that we must be spending £1944million a week on the NHS.

Excellent news for all the management consultants who advise on how that money is spent despite knowing nothing about healthcare.

That's fab. There's some really positive benefits being highlighted on this thread. Pay rises are great. More money for nhs is great. The vaccine speed was great. It would be nice if remainers could acknowledge these rather than pretend it hasnt happened.

An extra £350m / week works out to 18.2 Billion per year. The increase that went into effect is actually 28 Billion extra for this year. So they actually over delivered 👌

Even still - in regards to the whole £350 million bus sign fiasco... it didn't actually say that an extra £350mill / week would be given to the NHS.
It said: "We send the EU £350 million a week. Let's fund our NHS instead."
Nowhere did it say that the NHS would get the full £350 million extra, it just said let's give our own NHS more money instead of sending it the EU.

Clariana · 06/12/2023 10:21

For me personally, it was brilliant. In my job I had to travel to Brussels approximately twice a month, now it is twice a year, massive win.
