Part 10 of our long running thread.

Not sure what to say, really, other than it is worse than I feared.

Strap in, folks. It's gonna be a rough ride...

How damn convenient for our utterly inept government that the media focus is on illegal boat immigrants. Not on inflation or the energy crisis or industrial relations or government mismanagement or NI or or or….

FGS they even interviewed bloody Farage on R4 yesterday. Whose genius idea not was that? Cannot believe some R4 producer thought it a good idea to give that poisonous man air time at this volatile juncture.

I think you'll find that this "coincidence" is a feature, not a bug...

I see that Matt Hancock has temporarily lost the Tory whip, for going on I'm a Celebrity. He won't be available for his constituents whilst he's on it. How about taking the Tory whip from Boris Johnson, who is so often on holiday that he can't have much time for his constituents either?

Mirabai · 01/11/2022 13:39

Alternatively, whip them both.

The reason BV were going bust was because they couldn't afford their basic running costs.

It's a fact universally acknowledged that if you can't afford to run day to day, then you can't afford to invest.

I imagine BV have been "rescued" to allow a lot of dodgy investment firms a chance to disappear their clients money. Who knows, maybe there are some Mel Brooks fans around ?

When you consider all the things that don't get the whip removed from Tory MPs within a couple of hours of the story being made public it is quite surprising that this seems to be an issue.

It's nice they've drawn a line for unacceptable behaviour, but even considering just this week's events this seems a strange place to draw it.

They have drawn a line for Matt Hancock. The next one will be different. It's the fascist playbook. Arbitrary enforcement of arbitrary laws. Like not prosecuting the Home Secretary for breaking a law that would see you or I in the big house for 2 years.

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/11/2022 08:33

Exactly. New boss same as the old boss again.

Pity we can’t send them all to the jungle.

bellinisurge · 02/11/2022 08:41

@SerendipityJane , if I did what Braverman did with official information, I would be sacked on the spot. We have annual training about exactly this scenario and you get bollocked if you don't do it in time.

This chart, unveiled by Sir John Curtice (@WhatScotsThink), shows how support for being in the EU has increased over time — particularly since labour crisis headlines of autumn 2021

He says that while most opposition parties don’t want to debate Brexit, the public is debating it

Curtice adds that while this EU in-out polling comes with health warnings…

“The 2016 referendum is going to be as unsuccessful as the 1975 one in providing a permanent settlement of this debate”

Peregrina · 02/11/2022 16:02

As one who was old enough to vote in the 1975 referendum and indeed worked as a poll clerk for it, I would have said that for the majority of people, the issue was pretty much settled until the early 1990s. Then the Faragists began agitating, but even then for most people it was a pretty dead issue until the Referendum was called.

HannibalHeyes · 02/11/2022 18:56

The Eu was a complete non-issue for 99% of people until a few tax-avoiding billionaires decided to make it a big issue in the media that they owned. I.e. when the EU started making noises about getting rid of offshore tax havens...

Yep 💯

UK SCIENTISTS have been told they can no longer take part in meetings organised by a key European infectious diseases agency due to Brexit tensions, it has emerged.

The wins just keep on coming, don't they?

SerendipityJane · 03/11/2022 17:46

I think we're entering a new phase. Obviously Brexiteers haven't got a cent to show for all the effort and even their most ardent supporters have developed fatigue from having to scour for ever implausible reasons why bad things are happening. And now they have to face a slow influx of a generation who didn't get the "Don't mention the war Brexit" memo. And who may never get it.

Not quite sure what the announcement of the proportion of non-UK born people yesterday was meant to achieve.

The UK government's failure to obtain guaranteed access to an alternative satellite navigation system - now that we have lost full access to the EU’s Galileo positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) system, because of Brexit - has been criticised by MPs.

Galileo (at the UKs insistence) is EU members only. There was never any possibility of the UK getting access to it once leaving the EU.
