Part 10 of our long running thread.

Not sure what to say, really, other than it is worse than I feared.

Strap in, folks. It's gonna be a rough ride...

but we aren't on our knees. Ukraine would be an example of a country where such a description applies, Yemen would be another.

So the best countries you can compare us to is ones where wars are actively being waged? I would laugh, but it's serious. But maybe you have forgotten but we were promised that things would be better - we held all the cards, German car manufacturers would be flocking to do business with us, etc. Many people other than die hard brexiters thing the country is on its knees. It's certainly not prospering. Otherwise we would have those 40 new hospitals under construction, or the extra 20,000 nurses. Firms would not be burdened with red tape. I could continue, but why bother.

HannibalHeyes · 30/01/2023 19:09

I used to think that Louise was a real person. Then she showed herself to be xenophobic, but that's believable, as many Brexshitters were/are xenophobic.

Now, I think she's just a troll from twitter trying to wind us up. Surely nobody could be this ludicrous?

pointythings · 30/01/2023 19:17

Douglas Carswell defected to UKIP but was then reelected under that banner, so he counts as a 'proper' UKIP MP. Mark Reckless is a multiple floor crosser - he's done it three times so is politically indecisive or opportunistic on a cosmic level.

Plenty of people in RL still think Brexit is the best thing since slice bread... to me she seems to very much like my Aunt!!!!! who thinks Twitter is what birds do.

@LouiseCollins28 Good, we don't need to wait 30 years then.... democracy, based on truthful campaigning must always rule or we are no better than Russia.

I think this perhaps why remainers (and indeed many brexit voters now) feel it all went wrong in 2016, it wasn't really an honest campaign... on both sides i might add.

borntobequiet · 30/01/2023 19:32

The country is not "on its knees", we are facing serious economic, societal and political challenges but we aren't on our knees. Ukraine would be an example of a country where such a description applies, Yemen would be another.

Good, we’re not in a state quite as bad as a country that Russia is currently trying to shell into oblivion, or another one whose humanitarian situation is said to be the worst in the world. It must be one of those Brexit benefits.

mathanxiety · 30/01/2023 20:29

There is no level of bad that I could personally experience that would cause me to accept that my decision of June 2016 was not the correct one

That's the irrational bit, right there.

To not reconsider a decision despite signs that it was boneheaded, misguided, and flat out wrong is irrational writ large.

prettybird · 30/01/2023 20:47

I usually scroll by the posts of that person since they stopped talking any sense (they used to be semi-reasonable, so I respected that even if I disagreed with them). I didn't notice who it was when I saw the post about only people in Scotland might still be discussing the Union and then realised that there one only person on these threads would say something so utterly ignorant (in the true sense of the word) and Anglo-centrically arrogant. Angry Then I saw I was unfortunately correct.

That's the last I'm going to say and I've scrolled past the rest of their "contributions" today.

Alexandra2001 · 30/01/2023 21:09

LouiseCollins28 · 30/01/2023 16:32

How am I irrational? I want an outcome, the outcome gets delivered. I'd like to keep what I wanted in the first place.

How's that different from any one elses pro EU and/or pro Rejoin position?

The difference is that most remainers would accept they had got it wrong if Brexit led to the UK doing well in relation to our European competitors.

I want the UK to do well, i think its better off in the EU but i also accept, that i could be wrong, you will never accept this, your world and the UK could fall apart and still you would say you are right.

Thats difference between our positions... thats the very definition of irrartional

Alexandra2001 · 30/01/2023 21:10

irrational

LouiseCollins28 · 30/01/2023 23:07

Literally zero sign on probably tens of thousands of posts I've read on here of Remainers being prepared to accept they might be wrong. Anyway that's all in the past so there is little to be gained going over it.

I'm prepared to accept I'm wrong now on literally any topic or issue anyone chooses to debate with me, any. Make an argument that persuades me and I'll accept I'm wrong. The problem is you're not asking me to accept I'm wrong now, you've been asking me to agree that I was wrong to vote to Leave in 2016, which I don't.

Kucinghitam · 30/01/2023 23:11

My goodness, seeing what’s happened to Louise in the past several years is a chilling demonstration of what religious radicalisation looks like.

HannibalHeyes · 31/01/2023 00:20

In what universe have any remainers been shown to be wrong! It's absolutely laughable!

And yet you, Louise, haven't shown the slightest indication that you recognise that Brexit may, just, not have been all that was promised.

Fuckwit...

borntobequiet · 31/01/2023 06:02

Well, i am willing to accept i may have been wrong in 2016 and hence now.

But unless i 've mis read what you ve written, you will never accept your vote in 2016 was wrong, indeed you said no amount of harm to yourself would persuade you otherwise & as that harm would be happening now and in the future, its clear that you are not open to any argument.

If over the next few years, the UK does well and confounds the IMF and OECD and even the BoE, then i will be on here, using the same name, admitting i got it wrong & you and others were right... if the reverse happens and economic experts are correct... Will You?

prettybird · 31/01/2023 08:20

But you forget @Alexandra2001 - pesky experts are not to be trusted Confused

Louise, thank you for responding to my question. Your responses are fascinating baffling as always.

This tweet is going well for the Cons

We’re seizing the opportunities of Brexit to deliver on your priorities.

Hannon is a lying tory bastard... UK inflation is (10.5% vs 9%) above Eurozone and substantially higher than France and Germany, 4% and 2% respectively.

We have also lost EU wide pricing, for me, bicycle imports, some hi end bicycles are £1500 more expensive than exactly the same bike in France.... perhaps of more interest to most people is car tyres, common sized family car ones are £15 to £20 more in the UK than in France (fitted balanced)

So inflation may not fall like Sunak tells us.

  • “The British population was never going to accept a state in which the NHS would be demolished, where free education would be severely limited, where regulation with regard to employment would be thrown apart. It was just complete and total absolute lies.” He added: “The biggest issue about it, and you can take the Brexit bus as a good example, is the lies that Boris Johnson and the Conservative party told about the NHS. In fact what they did was throw the country and the NHS under the bus.”*

My goodness, seeing what’s happened to Louise in the past several years is a chilling demonstration of what religious radicalisation looks like.

Quite common though and not necessarily just religious radicalisation. Takes a very confident person to accept being wrong. Especially about something they were lied to about. It’s a perfect illustration of Leon Festinger’s cognitive dissonance. Just 🐿🐿🐿 now…
