Part 10 of our long running thread.

Not sure what to say, really, other than it is worse than I feared.

Strap in, folks. It's gonna be a rough ride...

Listening to their debate for a speaker at the moment. When it fails, as it will because the DUP have already made a statement, another election for the Executive will be called.

The bile that the DUP (and especially the guy from the TUV) are spouting is horrific. This is the inevitable consequence of Brexit Angry - and yes, we predicted this Sad

SerendipityJane · 27/10/2022 13:47

Hopefully the DUP will poll fewer votes this time. Might concentrate their mind wonderfully.

I see Sunak has already eased off on his Brexit Bonfire. Not enough capacity in the UK to handle it and everything else he has in mind. What a shame.

Be interesting to know what a threat of his resigning won't allow him to obtain. On paper it should be "very little". If I were in the ERG I would be hoping he didn't have the brains to work that out himself.

SerendipityJane · 27/10/2022 16:45

Apple completely uninterested in Brexit freedom to avoid EU laws.

SerendipityJane · 27/10/2022 17:06

Maybe Rishi is telling telling the ERG to FO ?

Bloody well hope so, would be at least one bright spot.

I caught some of that. It was disconcertingly vicious.

To hear the DUP complaining of being bullied! Bizarre.

Interesting thread on twitter about distribution problems due to Brexit...

TheHateIsNotGood · 28/10/2022 22:28

Anyone here have any views on the mass-migration/depopulation of Albania's young men as they land on our shores?

It's hardly a warzone - me and ds have had a few good holiday visits over the years in Albania.

Economically very poor, yes, and also for too long viewed as the Gangster Capital of Europe; I always used to say The Mafia never stopped Italy and New York from being popular.

So who can blame an entire generation of a Country who the rest of the World view with Contempt for taking whatever chance is offered; no one else cared for decades so only the Gangs can offer a chance.

Such a shame for the Albanian people and their very beautiful country.

My view is that immigration from EU countries/Europe/Asia will be utterly dwarfed by those from the Sahel region.

It will be a humanitarian crisis of unimaginable scale.

I recommend you all read Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall.

TheABC · 29/10/2022 00:41

Thank you @Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton for the book recommendation. I have bought it.

quiteathome · 29/10/2022 08:18

I seemed to be able to access above article.

Second that. Also Collapse (how societies choose to succeed or fail) by Jared Diamond.

The BBC is starting to cautiously mention Brexit

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001djzz/ros-atkins-on-the-week-series-1-the-new-prime-ministers-challenges

This week, Rishi Sunak talked of building 'an economy that embraces the opportunities of Brexit'. Here's 5 mins on Brexit's impact on the economy so far

TheHateIsNotGood · 29/10/2022 21:27

Thanks for drawing attention to Sahel as yes, it seems another Crisis in the making.

However, my request for views are specifically in regard to the recent influx of Albanians illegally crossing the Channel to claim Asylum. Particularly as the Asylum ship for Albanians sailed a long time ago.

Couldn't read the Telegraph in it's entirety (paywall), but if the UK are providing Infrastructure Funding to Albania then that is a very good use of International Development Aid I think. The old USSR, the EU, USA and China have all provided scraps in the past - but none stayed to follow it through.

Maybe the huge influx of Young Albanians could be viewed as a Demonstration which states - think about us, we Albanians, we have so much to offer, but you forget us and leave us to criminal exploitation. We are very much just like you.

HannibalHeyes · 29/10/2022 22:34

Jesus wept. Truss hacked, Braverman leaking left, right, and centre, Johnson patently kompromat. Christ knows how many others have taken many thousands in bribes from Russia.

It all stems from Putin buying Brexit. And people are still trying to argue that it was "democratic"...

My answer remains the same.

You're asking me what I think about a broken door when the house is on fire.

HannibalHeyes · 29/10/2022 22:52

And more winning

“British inventions are being brought to market overseas because new Brexit safety certification rules mean they can’t be sold in the UK.
Trade bodies and entrepreneurs have blamed the government’s decision to stop accepting the European Union’s CE mark”

HannibalHeyes · 29/10/2022 23:43

And we keep on winning

From gasp the Torygraph - "Brexit has exacerbated labour shortages, and the National Farmers Union has warned of a significant reduction in the 2022 harvest because of a lack of workers"

quiteathome · 30/10/2022 08:56

The own goals keep on coming.

SerendipityJane · 30/10/2022 10:00

I saw a perfect meme today... toppling the smallest with their Brexit vote because they don't like brown immigrants which leads to the biggest one falling labelled "a brown prime minister".

It's a paradigm of what I heard last week out and about. A lot of people seem confused about our new PM.

I've found describing memes rather than posting them tends to reach a more appropriate audience. (As a friend commented it's for the same reason we don't talk to pigeons ...)

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2022 13:51

More winning

BritishVolt seems set to enter administration.

That's the firm that Boris Johnson was lauding as a post-Brexit Tesla killer.

The Express went all-in too, publishing dozens and dozens of articles about how the firm would transform Britain's fortunes.

In the end, it got nowhere.

RayonSunrise · 31/10/2022 19:47

Amusingly, one of the Times' remaining Brexit promoters has been reduced to writing a column on NOT blaming Brexit for our economic position.

This is going to be like communism, isn't it? A lovely idea, but no-one will ever manage "to do it properly."

HannibalHeyes · 31/10/2022 23:36

Yet more winning.

"He said: “There is a really simple step that would help and that is rejoin the single market, we have no choice. Everyone knows the decision we took six years ago was the wrong decision."

RayonSunrise · 01/11/2022 07:58

Love that there are some comments under that article that are telling him to pay more to people who have no skills and can't do the job. That's Brexit for you!
