Latest from Pippa Crerar
The Times’ @Steven_Swinford reports that Sue Gray has been “blindsided” by revelations of No 10 drinks on eve of Prince Philip’s funeral. She’s concerned staff are concealing information...

Opal8 · 14/01/2022 22:37

Tomorrows front pages are interesting...

Only the daily heil not critical of De Pfeffle

Weird that anyone so close to the centre of government can be “blindsided” by such revelations. I mean, none of us would be remotely surprised, would we? Maybe when politicians and others among the great and good express shock and surprise at the latest scandal it’s genuine shock and surprise because of a capacity for very selective sight and hearing that enables then to ignore what’s going on around them in plain view of everyone else.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 15/01/2022 07:13

I wonder if it means blindsided in that she already thought she had a comprehensive list of parties, and then reports of two new ones emerge and she realised her list wasn't comprehensive after all.

borntobequiet · 15/01/2022 07:32

Yes probably, though the “party at the drop of a hat” culture seems pretty ingrained at Westminster.

Presumably she won't want the news on the day her report is released to be about a party that she hasn't reported on. But it will be.

@HannibalHeyes

I think Putin is getting far more from his investment in Brexshit than even he ever dreamed of...

Starmers tricking Boris into an inquiry to investigate all gatherings seems a bit of a genius move at this distance. Maybe Clav can put that in her cut'n'pastanova machine ?

Are we going to have each time the report is about to be published a newspaper article about a party that isn't in the report?
This could go on for months.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 15/01/2022 17:06

It's no surprise that the Sue Gray report is going to be nothing like the independent investigation it's being made out to be. Her role within government so far appears to be teaching everyone how to hide information and destroy evidence without consequence.

I don't understand why people are still defending 'Big Dog'. What does he actually have to do?

I actually think some people would defend him if he starting drinking the blood of newborn babies

Peregrina · 15/01/2022 17:56

Isn't he pathetic calling himself Big Dog. Drunken Sot would be better.

I assumed that Big Dog was what Carrie called him.
Opal8 · 15/01/2022 18:04

Drinking sot is pretty accurate - like his big hero Churchill
Pair of repressed Eton twats with daddy isshoos

I've not been on the sauce, honest 😬

Quite amused by a post on a thread pointing out that poster worked in publishing in the 90s and they "all drank after work"
The term "puritans" was used 🤣
I guess the difference between publishing and government is....????

I'm not really sure invoking "it was OK in the 90s" is in anyway a justification, nor an invitation to younger women they have a future to look forwards to.

As we can see from the occasional threads from people who are now parents but grew up in the 90s - there was a lot not to like about them.

Although some of the music was fucking awesome (goes to have mini Madchester tribute in the lounge).

Opal8 · 15/01/2022 19:05

It just amused me
Like publishing and government during the worst crisis since WW2 are in any way comparable...
I came of age in the 90s....it had its moments (music as you say) but mostly I remember feeling trapped in low paid jobs despite working my arse off

If we hadn't been in the EU at the time, with all those foreigners stealing your job, you would have had a much better paid job.
DuncinToffee · 15/01/2022 19:12

There is an awful lot of barrel scraping going on from the few Johnson defenders left.

DuncinToffee · 15/01/2022 19:15

Oh dear, I was one of those foreigners who moved to the UK in the nineties worked in a low paying job

Peregrina · 15/01/2022 19:16

At one time drink driving was acceptable and 'having one for the road'. But the number of road deaths caused by this eventually led to change.

25 years ago trains had smoking carriages and you could smoke upstairs on double decker buses. We can't now.

So let's hear a bit less of how you could get blind drunk one time at work, as though it didn't matter.
