NEW: @DavidGHFrost tells @CommonsEU that he's looking for someone from outside govt/civil service to head new unit, working to him, looking for benefits of #Brexit and deregulation.

What's Dominic Cummings doing these days? Wink
SwedishEdith · 17/05/2021 18:46

Whatever happened to surferjet ? She could help old Frosty out.

HarrietPierce · 17/05/2021 18:52

Dr Mike Galsworthy

"The year is 2037.

The Govt excitedly announced on the morning of March 4th that they have finally found the holy grail - a benefit of Brexit. Celebrations ensued.

However, in the afternoon, the announcement was retracted, citing a misapprehension of a key technical detail."

Or here's another suggestion...

HannibalHayeski · 17/05/2021 19:29

Ah, here's that perfect, entirely lawful, organise, never ever wrong Home Office at it again...

Is it worth asking why, in the five years since the Brexit referendum, the government hasn't yet identified any opportunities from this?
HannibalHayeski · 17/05/2021 20:29

Hang on, wasn't Iain Dunkin Donuts chairing an [[https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/taskforce-on-innovation-growth-and-regulatory-reform/taskforce-on-innovation-growth-and-regulatory-reform-tigrr-terms-of-reference entire task force]] dedicated to this exact function?

mrslaughan · 17/05/2021 20:53

I believe so Hannibal ...... it appears he didn't find anything.....

HannibalHayeski · 17/05/2021 21:03

Although, to be honest, IDK would have trouble finding his nose...

HannibalHayeski · 17/05/2021 22:33

I'm guessing everyone is in the pub tonight, given that nobody else is posting, but our wonderful government is showing how in touch it is with the common people yet again

"NEW: The government have told people not to get too drunk inside pubs"

DrBlackbird · 17/05/2021 23:14

This was in the Sunday Observer.

It was Nish Kumar on why he is hated by the right...He's talking from the perspective of being a British Asian comedian but the idea of any critical thoughtful, analytical, observant comment about the government being taken as talking down the country resonates with some of the comments posted on here. He says: '

“ ...there is a sense that we should just be quiet and be grateful. But I thought that was that was the point of being born in Britain.... That I was supposed to have the same rights as any other British person to criticise, to interrogate, to make jokes out of what’s happening here. What I have realised over time is that there’s a voluble minority of people who simply do not not feel that way. It’s where we’re at at the moment. It means we’re not having honest conversations about the state of race just about anything in this country. And it sucks.”

yellowspanner · 17/05/2021 23:16

Thank you Clavinova,
I will not be bullied by the posters on here no matter what names they call me.
The HO is quite right to remove people who are in the country illegally and I support them doing so.

DrBlackbird · 17/05/2021 23:17

Simple answer is that there are none. Or, none available to the common folk. Might be all kinds for mates of Johnson's government?

yellowspanner · 17/05/2021 23:23

Jasjas, you have accepted that the people in question were in the UK illegally.
They should be deported. If they were from an unsafe country they could stay here as refugees. They clearly were not refugees so they can be deported back to the country where they hold citizenship.

HannibalHayeski · 17/05/2021 23:41

What about when they aren't in the country illegally?

You seem to still support that...

Blacktothepink · 17/05/2021 23:46

Pmk...old Frosty 😂😂😂

mathanxiety · 18/05/2021 00:13

Given the socio economic status of the people who normally hire au pairs, I have no doubt that it will soon be really easy to enter the UK to work in this field. I imagine there is panic setting in in many a leafy suburb about the recent deportations.

mathanxiety · 18/05/2021 00:22

@yellowspanner - how do we know if someone is in the UK illegally?

You seen certain that it's easy to figure out.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/05/2021 02:59

@mathanxiety

"labour market shortages"....it wholly depends how much empoloyers are prepared to pay people to do these jobs.

@LouiseCollins
How much are employers prepared to pay people to pick vegetables?
What sort of accommodation are they prepared to put them in?
Are they prepared to provide transport? (Because people looking for work often have families - not all are young, single men, footloose and fancy free).
Can people who are seasonal employees return seamlessly to UC or whatever other welfare they need once the season is over?

How much is the average consumer able and prepared to pay to cover the increased cost of production when employers are forced to provide something other than a barebones pay and conditions packet?

Sorry to come back to this point even though everyone has moved on but being as reliant on benefits what with being a scrounger and everything because the government have committed to getting more disabled people into work and Im sure some of us remember the workfare fiasco so cant say I'm looking forward to Workfare 2.0, I'm sure accommodation will be provided, a 'house' that the disabled scroungers can access 'work' from, not sure what it would be called though Hmm

The Brexit Victim mentality

They can point at a black wall and say it's white , others can point out why they are wrong..... give examples ..... and they are being bullied.

mrslaughan · 18/05/2021 07:32

...... and wasn't at the pub last night......
Giving that a wide swerve at the moment......

pointythings · 18/05/2021 07:40

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/may/17/immigration-letter-sent-to-long-term-british-citizens-causes-alarm and meanwhile yellowspanner's much loved Home Office does this. Thousands of British citizens got these letters. Why would anyone trust an organisation this incompetent to manage life-changing decisions around who gets to be in the UK?

DGRossetti · 18/05/2021 07:46

You know what they're singing in Brussels ?
