Are there any Brexiters left?

... on here, or more or less anywhere on SM? The last entry on 'Leave Means Leave' is months old. Though I understand most sites are 'member only', now....

I am really quite surprised how they more or less evaporated on MN! They appear to be gone!

Why?

Was I an idiot to respond to so many, like, off the top of my head, mummmytime? Were they a bot??

The Arms collapsed. The victors are, well... gone!

Why is that?

Anyone who knows me will know I am a Remainer, but I patiently read, often 500 threads!- pros and cons, to 'get a handle' on the direction of travel.

However, now absolutely no one, bar Clav, is standing up for Leave.

I find the silence more chilling than the arguing.

Don't want to be convinced it's a good idea. That ain't gonna happen. I just want to see it's not a completely fucked up and dangerous idea.

Exactly. We know it's no longer possible to argue that it is a good idea as we have already spent far more on it than we can possibly recoup in the next few decades and thrown away our international reputation to boot. The most we can hope for now as that not too many people are put at risk due to supply chain problems, lack of research networks, etc etc.

Well ok, I don't follow them - they retweeted a few days ago. They have a link to the Alliance of British Entrepreneurs - who appear to be very active -10.4k followers on Twitter.

About us
ABE was born in 2018 following the unveiling of the Government's Chequers proposal.

We were founded by two individuals, Tom Bohills and Ed Harden, who felt there was no coherent business voice speaking up about the opportunities that Brexit presented.

We are apolitical and we do not offer formal 'membership'. Instead we are designed to be a banner under which positive, like minded business people can gather and have their voices amplified ...

ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 20:47

Clavinova
Retweeting can be done and often is by bots.

You seem to be struggling to find an active discussion forum about the positives of Brexit.
Funny that.

Alliance of British Entrepreneurs on Twitter looks active enough to me - a little gold mine.

Ha ha.
One real tweet every three or four days = two little twits

with a mobile phone.

Still waiting to see a discussion board that highlights the positives
of Brexit ....

I'm quite impressed with their twitter feed actually - thanks for helping me find them - I usually do my own research.

Why don't you listen to the radio instead - both sides discussed on LBC - I only post on Mumsnet.

ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 21:16

Who should I listen to on LBC?

Clavinova · 09/11/2020 22:00

Who should I listen to on LBC?

I generally have the radio on most of the day if I am at home/driving - Nick Ferrari, Shelagh Fogarty, Tom Swarbrick - James O'Brien is particularly annoying.

Found these two websites;

globalvisionuk.com/
briefingsforbritain.co.uk/

ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 22:09

I've looked at those two websites
funny that they talk lots about ideas
but never mention boring things like getting lorries to warehouses
ah well

bellinisurge · 09/11/2020 22:16

So the fairies will do it if we believe enough. Oh well, I did hope for something more than that.

I think perhaps Leavers and Remainers are looking for two different things.
Both Cummings and Aaron Banks have said that they didn't need facts, the Remain side can have them, that they had feelings and that's more important to people. They were right.
I certainly get this.
I think that's why Leave voters are willing to sacrifice so much for what they feel as freedom. I've heard Leave voters say that being in the EU feels like a boot on their neck, they feel oppressed and weighed down by it. It's a foreign power controlling everything in their lives and the EU flag looks like a Nazi flag to some. Wouldn't you give up your job and other opportunities (that you don't want, or see) to be free of that?
I think the economic argument and peace in NI are easily won Remain, easily, but it doesn't matter, if people feel oppressed and trapped they'll sacrifice anything to escape. In some ways I can identify with those feelings. Removing my rights to FOM makes me feel claustrophobic and even scared that I can't leave (or escape) the country easily. I know I can still leave but moving will be much, much harder (that's just a fact) and might be impossible if no country would give to rights to stay there.
If Leave voters now feel they can breath and Remainers can only see the (very real) things they've had taken away, I don't know how to heal that. Well unless all the leave promises come true, the peace remains in NI, we keep our rights as EU citizens, the economic surges and everyone has more money in their pockets. I don't know anyone credible is saying any of that though.
What does piss me off is when Leave voters then go and get themselves EU (Irish) passports after they voted to remove mine from me (I know a couple who've done this). Really hard to build any sort of bridges with them.

KenDodd · 09/11/2020 22:59

Oh and the racists, they can all fuck off as well. Not interested in bridge building with them.

Brexit is a done deal. We've already left the EU. Get a life.

Sometimesonly · 10/11/2020 08:48

Helpful. Grin

It's not really done though is it because we don't have a deal. All the good stuff is yet to come!

bellinisurge · 10/11/2020 09:58

Saying "it's a done deal" speaks volumes. 😂😂😂😂

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 10/11/2020 10:10

@Miljea

My first genuine enquiry as to where the Brexiters on MN had disappeared, recently, was also pulled by MN, as being a TAAT...

It reinforced my increasing suspicion that we were all being lead a merry dance by 'not real' posters.

Were we?

Maybe their sense of victory is so profound they need no longer bother with us Remainers-tho, oddly, they persisted for a good 2 years.

Yet, now, apart from more or less one- they're no longer here. None.

As stated, I'm now clutching at straws. What benefits will Brexit bring? Why is there no one left to guide us through their take on the machinations?

I just don't get it.

Either MN was swamped by bots/ paid content providers ; or the True Believers no longer believe.

Which is it?

I voted to remain but I'm not happy with the company I'm keeping really if your post is anything to go by.

It sounds very much to me as if you just want to continue railing and moaning and your target has stopped engaging with you. I don't blame them. The threads were awful.

You do sound incredibly goady too.

Yes I agree with this. Why on earth would people continue to engage when faced with this. It's a shame really as this could potentially be a really good platform to engage in these issues. But not when it's constantly turned into a bun fight.

Toptotoeunicolour · 10/11/2020 11:09

Well said.

There are some valiant soldiers who still want to debate, maintain an open mind and respect for democracy, but others are full-on snipey, sarcastic and petty which is rarely picked up by people on their own side (excepting your mail above and a few other isolated but well appreciated posts). I would just walk away from people like that in real life on the basis of their personal characteristics (not political/Brexit views) so why should it be any different here?

StrippedFridge · 10/11/2020 11:16

You don't see the campaigners any more for the corn laws, independence for India, votes for women and whether gay sex should be legalised. I wonder why not.

bellinisurge · 10/11/2020 11:21

Because those matters are closed. We may have left but we are in transition and don't yet have a deal. No deal would be a disaster and it is telling that posters are unwilling to engage on this. Brexit is a bit shit and we will agree to disagree on that. But A no Deal Brexit would be a catastrophe and you are abdicating responsibility for it.
