Today is the last scheduled day for talks with the EU.

We have til 30th June to ask for a transition extension. We won't.

That leaves us starring down the barrel of a no deal exit, when we still could be in a covid-19 crisis and the US may be in turmoil given recent events and the coming election...

It's not a pretty picture.

LQ - i'm very pleased to see that you have not lost your humour .

Just saying hi to all here that remember the days, not so long ago, when Brexit was A Thing; which seems to have been surpassed in recent discussions by Another Thing - CV19, which seems to have diluted The Brexit Thing somewhat - quite understandably.

My current understanding is, based on the Barnier PR and subsequent Press Conference questions (which differ in their perspectives) is that:

According to the latest negotiations PR from Barnier:

  1. negotiations are progressing except for some/4 sticking points.
  2. a further round of negotiations are due to be held as well as a Leader Summit prior to the end June Transition request deadline.
  3. the UK have stated that they will not be requesting an Extention to the Transition Period beyond end Dec 2020.

My take on the Barnier post PR Press Conference:

  1. Barnier's understanding is beyond question and complete.
  2. Any sticking points in the negs are only due to the UK's inability to engage.
  3. It's the closest I've seen it to No Deal Brexit so far. Egads...

That's it so far....and happy to hear any other 'takes' on this pending, but slipped from the current radar, Thing.

My view is that statues should be Marie Kondo'd. If it isn't sparking joy it has to go.

Of course that could be to a museum with a lot of info on the atrocities where the proceeds go to a relevant charity...

DGRossetti · 12/06/2020 20:37

He was a racist, they all were. He was a closet homosexual, 'scouting for boys' and all that, and he was on the Nazis little list of prominent Brits to be detained.

Er, "shot" I think.

Interesting for all the current Churchill hate he was on the list too. With Noel Coward.

There's some cracking docs on YouTube about "What if Operation Sealion had succeeded".

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2020 20:38

The “Brexit thing” has only slipped from the radar of those not paying attention (so a large proportion of those that voted to Get Brexit Done).

But you’re not wrong on your other points.

JeSuisPoulet · 12/06/2020 20:41

Yes Hate, I think we realised it would be No Deal a while ago.
It's about watching the shit storm unfold now.

Scotland and Wales boycott Brexit talks after extension refused

So part of sharing our nhs data with companies - seems to be about making us get our prescriptions from certain providers.
Discussion on local Facebook.... someone wanting to get a repeat , normally goes to local independent pharmacy- has had trouble getting their repeat organised/ confused messages from GP surgery . Regular pharmacy not had it, then gets text from local outlet if nation wide chain advising script is ready to pick up.....
I would be fucking furious - well I am, but would be incandescent if it was mine.

HateIsNotGood · 12/06/2020 20:48

Well ta so much Sabrini - I'm not sure that voters of the 'get Brexit done' persuasion(s) are the only electorate that are too otherwise engaged with other priorities to be on top of The Brexit Thing.

At least you're not - so that makes 2 of the few posters here aware of The B Thing that are currently thinking about it

We're hardly a full-on representation of the entire breadth of the UK electorate now are we?

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2020 20:57

You’re missing the point Hate - Johnson told his supporters that Brexit was done on 31st January when the UK left the EU, so in many people’s minds that’s it. Done. Sorted.

HateIsNotGood · 12/06/2020 21:00

Ah yes Pouli, the 'shitstorm' - surely we must have a new word for such things now?

It's gonna be a 'storm' for sure - Brexit is just a little ripple now. The way to survive these 'storms' is to know how to survive.

Finding the highest ground to survey the carnage below might not be the best place to position yourself as many storms 'target' higher ground.

The best prepared you can be is by by being as adaptable to the circumstances presented as you can.

yoikes · 12/06/2020 21:03

How fascinating...

From:

"the easiest deal in history, Britain will be in control, oven ready deal, more choice, more control..."

To:

"The best prepared you can be is by by being as adaptable to the circumstances presented as you can".

Doesn't sound too promising, does it?

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2020 21:04

You do realise Hate that recovering from the Covid recession won’t mask a No Deal - No Deal just compounds it?

I’m sure all those finding themselves redundant after furlough expires will appreciate the advice to “be adaptable”.

HateIsNotGood · 12/06/2020 21:11

I'm not sure what point I'm missing Sab - Johnson Supporters (do you mean some Tory Party Members who elected him?), Brexit Yes and No Voters and people's pre/current/post CV19 prioritization of Brexit in their awareness are all very distinct.

Could you please be more explicit in making the point that you seem to think I'm missing?

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2020 21:14

I think you know exactly what my point is Hate. Everyone that voted Tory in 2019 voted for this.

Sabrina - yes they did inadvertently..... but I had people saying to me "Boris won't do that......he won't no deal, he won't inflict that economic pain on the country"
People couldn't comprehend that he - or any politician could be that evil/immoral..... when the thought of him, they thought of the image- not his actions

HoneysuckIejasmine · 12/06/2020 21:26

I would be furious if that happened to me. I use an independent because they stock a specific formulation of my medication that Lloyds doesn't. The one Lloyds stocks is not ideal for me. It's better than nothing but nowhere near as effective. I imagine it's cheaper, or they have a deal with the manufacturer.

Fools. I agree with Sabrina too.

I'm not sure what Hate wants from us. This thread has never been single issue. It's has always been a wider sociological and political discourse. Hate seems to want us to talk about Brexit only, and only on their terms.

HateIsNotGood · 12/06/2020 21:28

It seems that some views are still entrenched in discussing the rights and wrongs of Brexit rather than focus on the actual Brexit as it is really happening.

Rehashing old debates isn't particularly helpful right now - nor was the effect on many UK and EU Businesses affected by the 2 years of 'uncertainty' that wringing every last breath out of the UK Electorate's Ref Decision did either.

Looks like Brexit is going ahead - there's not much any of us can do - just hope that enough Agreements are reached to prevent No Deal.

Looks 50/50 to me so far.

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2020 21:31

mrslaughan all those people voting for Johnson in 2019 saying “he wouldn’t do that” hadn’t been paying attention for the last 3 years. I’m past having any empathy for them. Fuck em.

JeSuisPoulet · 12/06/2020 21:33

Hate you can't polish a turd. Especially a turd in a storm.

HateIsNotGood · 12/06/2020 21:38

O shit Honey - this thread is in the Brexit Board - obviously Brexit doesn't mean Brexit and means something else entirely.

My Bad and I'll make sure in the future that I only post on MN Brexit Boards that explicitly state that they are truly Brexit-related and not merely a Thread posted on the Brexit Board when the Thread is really Self-Identifying with the Style and Beauty or DIY Boards, etc.

No wonder the Brexit Thang is happening - too much discourse and a lot of hot air methinks.

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2020 21:39

Who’s debating the rights and wrongs of Brexit? It’s happened. You won, remember?

thecatfromjapan · 12/06/2020 21:44

Brexit is an extreme event.

We've seen how well this government handles extreme events.

It's going to be interesting, for sure.

HateIsNotGood · 12/06/2020 21:52

Night folks - bait not taken - you'll have to find a different way to express your angst. Might I recommend some out of date maps, a few darts and some random felt tips instead? Bake a cake and make a few sandwiches and you've got a Party.

Maybe we can touch base again after the next Negs and you'll all be a bit more aware and receptive to reality.

Good nigh' an gaw bless for now.
