Whenever this is asked mid-thread, it's never answered. There's plenty of information out there about how the UK had benefited from membership, but I really struggle to find info on how it's had a negative impact.
So in Jan 2021, once the transition period is over and we actually start to see the impact of the decision, what will improve? How will yours, and mine, and the general population's lives improve?

They have a house in Spain and are always going down there, complete with their dog.

I can believe that. My in laws live in France and voted Leave. Hmm

mummmy2017 · 02/02/2020 16:36

You think we are not an EU cash cow.
They just said oh you did better than expected we want 10 Billion more.
So even they admit the lies about us failing are untrue.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:37

In the absence of a crystal ball, no-one can answer your question. We will have to wait and see

Correct

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:38

"We know what we voted for"

To leave the EU. Ballot paper was a binary choice between leave and remain. Nothing else mentioned.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:40

It's not about benefits, it's about feels

I agree

ineedaholidaynow · 02/02/2020 16:41

Why would you vote for something where you have absolutely no idea what potential benefits/downfalls would be?

TatianaLarina · 02/02/2020 16:42

The crystal ball metaphor is always used by people who have no idea what they voted for. The consequences of Brexit are so unknown to them as to appear comparable to fortune telling.

For everyone else with even the most basic grasp of trade and economics: a + b = c. Indeed anyone who reads the papers and has more than 1 friend already knows people, businesses and industries already negatively affected by Brexit.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:44

Economic arguments don't really figure because to them it was never about being richer or poorer

I agree.

Immigration
National Pride
Unelected EU commissioners

Swayed more than economics

malylis · 02/02/2020 16:44

You realise the increase in the membership fee is down to rules that the UK agreed to?

It will be halved when the rebate is considered.

No we are not a cash cow for the EU. We aren't even the biggest net contributor. We pay only slightly more than France and Italy and a lot less than Germany.

TatianaLarina · 02/02/2020 16:45

To leave the EU. Ballot paper was a binary choice between leave and remain.

This is the standard refrain of the uneducated - sorry but it is. Anyone who frames leaving as a binary choice and not an extremely complex issue, didn’t understand the question.

malylis · 02/02/2020 16:46

I love how you put unelected EU commissioners on there above economics.

You mean the 350 million or the ability to make our own trade deals wasn't high on that ?

Only cause it fits your narrative.

and you still didn't know what you voted for.

TatianaLarina · 02/02/2020 16:47

Economic arguments don't really figure because to them it was never about being richer or poorer

Well they say that. But when the consequences hit their jobs and their income, the economic arguments will suddenly draw sharply into focus.

mummmy2017 · 02/02/2020 16:49

People got one chance to get out.
David Cameron thought he was going to win, so he said "do it."
He honestly never thought he would lose, look at his shock, when the results came in.
That is why we voted. We voted for freedom .
The EU is an organisation, Europe is land.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:50

If the EU implodes then it will take the UK economy and the world economy with it

What a load. EU is only 15% of world trade.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:51

Why would you vote for something where you have absolutely no idea what potential benefits/downfalls would be?

If it doesn’t work out vote differently the next time

malylis · 02/02/2020 16:53

And the united states is 11.2 percent yet when the US goes into a recession the rest of the world suffers too.

If the EU implodes the economic impact of the World financial crisis will look like a walk in the park.

KenDodd · 02/02/2020 16:53

It won't (colleagues have already lost their jobs because of Brexit).

I will make some people happy though. That's it, as far as I can see, some people will just feel happy about it.

malylis · 02/02/2020 16:54

"we voted for freedom"

In what way are you more free outside of the EU?

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:54

This is the standard refrain of the uneducated - sorry but it is. Anyone who frames leaving as a binary choice and not an extremely complex issue, didn’t understand the question

Question was simple. Leave or remain.

Voting has 2 requirements only;

To be over voting age

Turning up at the polling station.

There are no entrance exams to pass as suggested on some threads

DaveGrohlsMuse · 02/02/2020 16:55

@mummmy2017 freedom from what though? How is that freedom going to benefit us, or the next generation? Is it going to make our life better? Because if not I don't see the point, freedom is not a benefit, which is what I am asking about

OP posts:
MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:56

and you still didn't know what you voted for

I voted to leave the EU

mummmy2017 · 02/02/2020 16:56

Pretty sure we are smaller in size than France , Germany Spain and Italy,
France and Germany have more people.
So we just pay more as overall because
We are better at making money.

MysteryTripAgain · 02/02/2020 16:58

And the united states is 11.2 percent yet when the US goes into a recession the rest of the world suffers too

Oil is traded in US$ is reason.

TatianaLarina · 02/02/2020 16:58

Question was simple. Leave or remain.

A very complex question. There were many different versions of Leave.

Anyone who genuinely thinks it was simple shouldn’t have been asked the question. Which is why the vote should never have been put to the public.

KenDodd · 02/02/2020 16:59

we voted for freedom

What particular freedom do you mean? Could it be the freedom to live and work in any one of 31 countries?
