Following on the thread about how we will measure the successes or failures of Brexit, I’m just leaving this one here for people to record the successes and failures as they occur / as they see them

All welcome if you discuss the subject of the thread - this isn’t a thread for moaning about the fact Brexit is happening! 😁

@jasjas1973

At the moment omens are good for Keir Starmer - is way ahead in the nominations so far and these don't even include the many new members who are though to have joined specifically to get an electable leader.

There may, just may, be a little bit of hope that we can think about a future.

TatianaLarina · 01/02/2020 10:46

There is no ‘if it will be good’ unfortunately.

MysteryTripAgain · 01/02/2020 10:50

It its bad, they get to own that too

Good or bad if affects everyone regardless of how they voted.

malylis · 01/02/2020 10:58

They affect everyone. but leave voters need to own the impacts of their vote.

Parker231 · 01/02/2020 11:02

I hope it is Keir Starmer - he’s a good speaker and will challenge Boris when he goes into a rant.

MysteryTripAgain · 01/02/2020 11:03

And do what exactly? How will people be segregated into leave and remain?

TatianaLarina · 01/02/2020 11:12

And do what exactly?

Take responsibility for the consequences.

frumpety · 01/02/2020 11:44

Maylis but the leave voters have no control whatsoever over what happens next. They might get a whiff of control in about four years at the next GE, but that's it. They have handed all control to our great leader and his unelected side kick. That's what 'taking back control' means.

TatianaLarina · 01/02/2020 11:46

That’s what they voted for all the same. They pressed the button on a process they had no control over and no clue as to what would happen next.

Indeed , but the point I am badly trying to make is that's where their power ends. All this 'we can do this, that and the other' , there is no 'we' , unless you are a Conservative MP or part of the EU negotiating team, you will have no input into anything, no say , nothing.
Boris decided that he wanted to support the leave campaign, was instrumental in getting the leave vote its win and has now got himself the top job. His circus, his monkeys Smile

Mistigri · 01/02/2020 13:18

How will people be segregated into leave and remain?

Geographically. Most of the available analysis suggests that Brexit voting areas will be worst affected by a hard Brexit, especially in northern England.

MysteryTripAgain · 01/02/2020 13:19

@frumpety

Your points are correct. Implementing the result is the task of Government. It is now in their hands, not the voters.

If the voters think government is doing a bad job the can vote them out at the next election.

MysteryTripAgain · 01/02/2020 13:31

Take responsibility for the consequences

In what way? Higher taxes, confiscation of assets, imprisonments?

frumpety · 01/02/2020 18:17

In four years time. Four years where the opposition has no ability to effectively oppose anything that might be deemed detrimental to the population of the UK.

jasjas1973 · 01/02/2020 18:32

Take responsibility for the consequences

Imprisonment sounds good.....
