How will we measure Brexit’s success or failure?

I’ve been pondering this for ages now

In any ‘normal’ project you’d have targets, objectives, deadlines, reviews etc but for Brexit beyond 2 deadlines of 31/1/20 and 31/12/20 there’s nothing

People talk about politicians being accountable now but what do we expect them to deliver and by when

@Limitedsimba123 I agree, particularly the last paragraph.

MysteryTripAgain · 27/01/2020 18:47

just whining repeatedly about pp who won't accept the result and why don't they post somewhere else etc etc ad nauseam

Think Bears point was presenting the same remain arguments that have twice failed does not achieve a lot. Bellinsurge seemed to say the same.

Given time both leavers and remainers will have actual post Brexit data to comment upon.

malylis · 27/01/2020 18:52

The leave argument failed in 1975, they didn't shut up. Utter hypocrisy and anti democratic to tell others to shut up now.

Remain won in 1975, if that means shutting up forever, that vote still counts.

Exactly mystery

Same argument was presented again and again from 1975

Didn't seem to matter.

Yes I'm sure everyone got the point, it's how it's made - telling pp to stop whining and how pointless their remarks are and they should stop referring to the Brexit process as it's all in the past. Extremely arrogant

jasjas1973 · 27/01/2020 19:05

Apart from a few saying they want to see more money for the NHS and for the trade deals to appear, has anyone said anything else to answer the original question?

Well, on two separate posts with about 10 pages between them, i mentioned Science Tech Finance and Universities... wecan see how they are doing now and compare in 5 years.... wi add in Pharma to that list.

As to Hester54's point on any recession being blamed on Brexit, that will depend if the ROW has one too and how severe it is.
Its pretty obvious that if PSA+ other EU car manufacturers and Airbus leave the UK, then its hard to argue that isn't as a result of Brexit.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/01/2020 19:05

The remain arguments will likely be proven right over time. On a thread that wants to measure success/failures that should be important.

Bearbehind · 27/01/2020 19:07

neddie you’re not welcome on the next thread - not that it will stop you I’m sure but I’m sick to death of your snipey comments which add no value and I’m sure a lot of other people are

If they come to pass then it’s fair to list them

Until then just telling people they’re going to happen and that they should have known better isn’t very helpful

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/01/2020 19:12

Of course its helpful, if we want to understand and unpack Brexit as it happens . I assume that's one of the reasons you started the thread?

NiceGuyNeddie · 27/01/2020 19:12

I think you may be getting delusions of grandeur Bearbehind - I expect it'll be the oscar. You are not entitled to tell me where I can and can't post, that's up to HQ. Typical leaver, skin as thin as an onion!

malylis · 27/01/2020 19:12

Stop whinging leavers.

You won. Now make it work.

Bearbehind · 27/01/2020 19:13

It’s not helpful when it’s making assumptions about things that may or may not happen

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/01/2020 19:15

If remainers are proven right I expect us to be called arrogant and insulting. This is all about controlling the brexit narrative. Just as we were previously shouted down with cries of project fear. We will fall into line by being silenced into submission.

Bearbehind · 27/01/2020 19:15

I didn’t tell you where you can post - I just said you wouldn’t be welcome on the next thread

I’ll certainly be ignoring you on there

Typical leaver, skin as thin as an onion!

I’m not a Leaver but you know that - you just think it’s clever to try and wind me up

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/01/2020 19:17

Your thread is literally inviting people to make assumptions based on perceived successes and failures Hmm

MysteryTripAgain · 27/01/2020 19:18

The leave argument failed in 1975, they didn't shut up

UK had been in the EU barely two years by time 1975 referendum took place. So very little history to make a decision as to whether it was good or bad.

Utter hypocrisy and anti democratic to tell others to shut up now

I think Bears point was for remain supporters to present new arguments rather than repeat the same arguments that have failed twice.

Remain won in 1975, if that means shutting up forever, that vote still counts

EU was very different in 1975 compared to 2016. Certainly did not have the huge imbalance of contributions that exist today whereby 10 (soon to be reduced to 9) members pay in to the EU pot and 18 others take out.

Article 50 was passed by all EU members in 2009 to create a mechanism for any member to leave the EU. Rightly so too.

Your logic is like saying that people have to stay with their first employer forever and can’t leave to search for better opportunities elsewhere.

Bearbehind · 27/01/2020 19:19

ghost it is inviting comments based on facts, not crystal ball premonitions or preconceived ideas on what has yet to happen

OP posts:
NiceGuyNeddie · 27/01/2020 19:19

You voted for Boris/Cummings, therefore you are a leaver.

I didn’t tell you where you can post - I just said you wouldn’t be welcome on the next thread

Oh dear

NiceGuyNeddie · 27/01/2020 19:21

If you're quick you can get the last word in OP!

Bearbehind · 27/01/2020 19:21

And I’m the arrogant one!

🤔
