Westminstenders: Massive Rightwing Plot?

Tonight 10pm

YouGov MRP.

First big poll

Rumour is that it shows a big tory majority.

This would fit with two MRP polls that are already out if accurate.

Datapraxis is suggesting a Tory majority of 48.

Best for Britain (Pro remain) is suggesting a majority of 57.

What is MRP and can it predict the result of the UK general election?

It stands for multi-level regression and post-stratification. Its a polling method which uses demographic data to work out how people will vote. YouGov used it to accurately predict the 2017 result and the method was used to predict the 2016 US election.

That's interesting/weird Lucy

tobee · 29/11/2019 15:39

I wonder if they have a tweet "ready to go" and then fill in place/time details Confused

DGRossetti · 29/11/2019 15:43

^Re DGR extreme cynic mode - did anyone notice that the tweet from Boris Johnson to the BBC about the London Bridge incident appears to have been sent at 7.09am?^

As someone pointed out on a much more cynical forum than this, they predicted a false flag operation on 25th (they did). Also what's the betting Boris is now going to be up to his lying ears in COBRA meetings as an excuse to duck out of the next few days media appearances. Of course such an excuse is beyond reproach, and can't be criticised by anyone (except me).

Just to add it's terrible someone is dead and people are hurt and once again well done to our amazing police.

Apileofballyhoo · 29/11/2019 15:43

I was also very cynical, DGR. That's very strange about the tweet, Lucy.

Sometimes I feel I'm living in a parallel universe. It's all very 1984.

Correction. They’ve just shown the tweet again. Not 7.09am, but 7.39am. Still bloody odd. But the tweet (in the Sun which was the only thing I could find quickly) shows 15.09. What on earth is going on?

Verylucky2 · 29/11/2019 15:48

TheElementsSong, I meant politically, obviously, but go ahead and take it literally if that makes you feel more superior.

Apileofballyhoo · 29/11/2019 15:52

It's a sign of how weird things have become that I would go through the thought process even to immediately dismiss it as "nah, that's crazy, they wouldn't kill someone to manufacture a fake terrorist plot".

How fucked up is it for those thoughts to even pop in your head?

Either way, as you said DGR, someone has died, and that's a terrible thing.

mrslaughan · 29/11/2019 16:00

@clarinova - of course he was charming, all sociopaths are...

TheElementsSong · 29/11/2019 16:04

Re Political Nightmares I'm sure there will be a detailed point-by-point, slogan-and-soundbite-free, explanation of what constitutes said nightmare...

stripeypillowcase · 29/11/2019 16:05

re: tweet time
could it be a time zone thing?

mrslaughan · 29/11/2019 16:08

@peregrina - I just want to say - that by most measures we would be considered very wealthy - the Tory government won't benefit - may be neutral, but unlikely because of brexit - so slightly negative. The Tory government will only benefit multi millionaires and billionaires. So the exceedingly wealthy. That needs to be kept in mind.
I know many a successful business person who in the past week have started to talk about how bad business is...... some are still planning on voting Tory -which makes me want to head butt them - to knock some sense into them. But we are still 2 weeks out. Pessimism may change there minds....

I've not read back and somebody might have already suggested this - 7.09am makes absolute sense, 0709 PST (Twitter time if you like) is 1509 GMT. It's just not been adjusted.

7.39am would mean it was sent at 1509 GMT though.

BaloneyInMySlacks · 29/11/2019 17:14

*1539 GMT

Looks like a few other people caught the tweet time. Here's one

It is strange.
Two people are dead today and this is awful news. I feel sad and worried as my son works up there , but was off today.

...having Corbyn in power is my worst nightmare

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands are living through the nightmare of Universal Credit and the effects of a boneheaded policy of austerity that was pushed regardless of the criticism of economists and the example of credible alternatives from around the world.

It's a funny old world.

TatianaLarina · 30/11/2019 00:48

Much as I think he’s a twit, there are worse things than Corbyn as PM. Such as a Boris shaped ice sculpture.
