To feel so fucking depressed and angry about brexit?

I'm Scottish. I voted to remain. It feels like nothing I vote for matters. I despise Farage and Johnstone. I despise the call for sovereignty certain parts of England still believe in. I despise of the right wing media.

I really feel this country is fucked, unless you have money behind you and beside you.

slightly off topic but what are the chances of Nigel Farage becoming a Sir in the new years honours list?

Whitejotter · 11/11/2019 21:56

Why doesn't Boris want the Scots to have another referendum on independence? It strikes me that the Scots might prefer to be governed from home in Edinburgh rather from Westminster - in much the same way as he thought the Brits should be governed from Home rather than Brussels.

DustyDiamond · 11/11/2019 21:58

it can't be summed up with posters trying to repeat 3 year old talking points under the guise of being sad.

So much this.
Same old shit, rinse & repeat.

There are plenty of Scottish Leavers btw who are anti-independence - like my mum & dad & plenty of my pals.
Also have pro-Indy remainers, pro-Indy Leavers & anti-Indy remainers amongst my friends & extended family.

I'm always 😮 at the bubbles people seem to exist in 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheCatsPjammas · 11/11/2019 22:02

Jutanotherlurker-

I think it’s perfectly reasonable to worry about your kids future post Brexit.

Nothing faux at all about it. Younger generations opportunities will be more limited in the post Brexit landscape.

I’m despondent too as I cant see how this hard Brexit can be avoided. Tory /Brexit party majority probably on its way with5 years of that shower in charge.

Don’t worry true Beleavers, your shit show will be here soon for us all to wallow in and unfortunately there is zero pleasure in’told you so’.

BesselVanDerKolk · 11/11/2019 22:05

YANBU. It makes me sick

AMRAFP · 11/11/2019 22:25

YADNBU.

raskolnikova · 11/11/2019 22:33

YANBU for reasons everyone else has said.

I was living in the EU for three years, I had to come back to the UK recently, I would really like to Brexit my way back out again but I don't have the funds currently. I really can't think of anything good that could come out of a Conservative majority/hard Brexit, and what more is there to say really.

user1471448556 · 11/11/2019 23:32

Eager leavers, I’m afraid us remainers are going to keep asking - what will ordinary Brits gain from Brexit? I can see exactly what it takes away (FOM, EHic cards, visa free travel to EU countries, trade as part of world’s largest trading block, protected workers’ rights including mat leave). Still waiting to hear the gains - blue passports don’t count.

Summery1 · 11/11/2019 23:40

I'm in Ireland and watch daily UK news, Question Time, Newsnight.
I follow Peston on Twitter, Laura Kuensberg, Femi, Jo Maugham.

We are aghast at the wound the UK is inflicting on itself.

I find an economic contradiction (among many). Politicians accept that Brexit will be bad for the economy. Brexiteers counter this with 'it's not all about money' and 'our Independence will be worth it'. Why then did Johnson have to promise pension increases as well as Brexit, to be elected leader of the Conservative Party?

Same with the general election.
If you are a Brexiteer, and are voting for parties that are promising to deliver Brexit, then shouldn't you accept reduced public spending?
I think of the dwarf king in Shrek. He has a line, when he's sending people to attempt to slay the dragon - to their death. 'That's a sacrifice I'm prepared to make'.

OP. YANBU. Brexit is National self harm.

CareOfPunts · 11/11/2019 23:51

I will blame the people who voted for this for every one of the consequences, afterall, how many times have we heard them say they knew what they voted for.

Yep totally agree and also am totally baffled at how people look at a wanker like BoJo and think he’s doing a good job. Totally deluded.

I’m so angry at labour too. They have made themselves unelectable at a time when they should be all over the government

Also agree about the waste of money of all this, it’s a bloody disgrace.

ArseDarkly · 12/11/2019 00:10

According to the leaver thread they are not impressed with Bozo but they are voting for him to 'get brexit'. There's never any discussion of what that means or why they would ever trust a notorious liar to stick to anything he has said. Apparently, after Brexit, their vote will be up for grabs again.

Brexit has taken over their minds and they are prepared to sacrifice anything, justify anything, swallow anything on that altar.

Someting that interests me - I have heard a number of times now from pundits in the media that recent polls consistently show a majority for remain now over leave. The person I heard today even stated a comfortable majority.

If that's true then surely the fact that Johnson has staked everything on Brexit would be an overall vote-loser?

One size fits all.

One size fits all

The nihilism of a Brexit voter

OhHolyNightWaking · 12/11/2019 01:34

YADNBU. Brexit makes me want to weep. I feel a great sense of panic about it. I fear for my children's future. My husband reassures me that he thinks we will be OK, but I know he doesn't know that for certain.

What makes it worse is my parents both voted to leave. It makes me so sad and angry that they don't give a shit about the future of their grand children.

I'm hoping it may be possible for us to move to Ireland for work if we are lucky, but that would mean leaving friends and family behind.

It's SHIT and I can't believe this is happening.

StillNoEyeDeer · 12/11/2019 02:08

YADNBU OP

We are trying to save every penny we can to get out of the country but we feel utterly trapped. Our rent is sky high, wages are ridiculously low, I'm currently financially supporting a disabled relative who's benefits have been cut and they're 11 months into the wait for a tribunal. Our children's school is crying out for donations to fund resources for the children.

I feel so low and helpless. And completely sick that so many of the people around me will refuse to vote for the only party that could make a difference to these things because they're so stupid they've been brainwashed by the right wing media. It's heartbreaking.

wondering7777 · 12/11/2019 06:03

This general election is effectively a second referendum and our last chance to stop Brexit once and for all. I just hope the public make the right decision this time!

Songsofexperience · 12/11/2019 06:14

I wouldn’t trust them to look after my cat.

I wouldn't trust them to look after fake flowers

Songsofexperience · 12/11/2019 06:23

No, a GE isn't a new ref and we'll keep tearing bits out of one another because neither side will accept the result. Remember 2017? We'd 'voted' 80% for brexit? No- didnt work then, won't work now.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 12/11/2019 06:39

This is the most awful shit show. I hope everyone who can vote does so on 12th December. I’m in Europe so taking no chances and setting up a proxy vote.

Karwomannghia · 12/11/2019 06:47

We are tiny compared to US and China, with trade deals, do you think they’ll be kind? 😂 or are we going to be effectively owned by them?

fedup21 · 12/11/2019 06:59

No, it really isn’t! I live in a blue area that has been blue since the dawn of time. Many (racist, retired) people here voted leave and will do again. My non-Tory vote will count for nothing as always. At least with a referendum, your vote might make a difference. Our voting system is broken.

nearlynermal · 12/11/2019 07:07

Totally with you, OP. I'm so worried about the future. I will say this, though: was talking to a Hong Kong Chinese colleague about what it was like being handed back to China and being part of the protests now, getting tear gassed etc. Doesn't make me feel lucky to be facing Brexit, but for me it's a slightly helpful perspective...

GenuineQuestions · 12/11/2019 07:19

I'm a swing voter, I have no life long family generation cult like allegiance to any party at all.

But I do feel strongly about brexit.
Right now without brexit in the picture I would vote tory anyway.
I think Jo swinson is obsessive and corybn scares me, the people associated in the party terrify me.

Also, I have young dc and I cannot fathom how leaving the eu will affect them negatively at all. A 'barrier' to travel might be a few pounds for some sort of visa?

I don't get it, people have moved and lived between the countries since time began..

Trewser · 12/11/2019 07:21

Many (racist, retired) people here voted leave and will do again

Jesus. Why not learn a bit of respect for the human beings around you?

lonelyplanetmum · 12/11/2019 07:31

Also, I have young dc and I cannot fathom how leaving the eu will affect them negatively at all.

If your DC stand to inherit significantly, if they can afford private healthcare and education then they should be protected from the results.

Otherwise losing unrestricted access to a market on our doorstep worth $18.8 trillion of 500 million consumers (and all the knock on effects of that) will affect them.

Handing over the reins to this new Tory party, who believe in a low welfare state, and low consumer and workers protections will affect them.

The food that they eat will come from other places (most likely the States) and will be of lower quality with unknown additives etc and they don't know as it will be inadequately labelled.

Brexit has empowered the new breed of Tories who believe that some have more rights than others, that education and healthcare should be for those who can pay for it - this will affect your DC.

A society where we are inward looking, protectionist, xenophobic will affect your DC.

A society where we no longer head up research because we have lost EU funding and EU collaboration will affect your DC.

The academic shrinking of our Unis will affect your DC.
