To feel so fucking depressed and angry about brexit?

I'm Scottish. I voted to remain. It feels like nothing I vote for matters. I despise Farage and Johnstone. I despise the call for sovereignty certain parts of England still believe in. I despise of the right wing media.

I really feel this country is fucked, unless you have money behind you and beside you.

'perhaps the Netherlands' - it was never definite so can't be stated that they lost the jobs

From Autoexpress in 2014

Tesla UK R&D centre plans confirmed
Musk also confirmed the UK will be the base for a brand new Tesla R&D centre, which could even precede a vehicle assembly plant in Britain – if demand is high enough. “We’ll have an R&D centre here before a factory”, Musk said.

“We’ll have our first European factory in continental Europe, perhaps the Netherlands, but it makes sense to have one in the UK once we’re producing more than 500,000 units. But the factory needs to be running at full capacity [to be viable]. I’d say Model S is more European than American in design and handling. Most of the set-up work was done by British guys!”

From AutoExpress 14th November 2019
Speaking at Auto Express’s sister title Auto Bild’s Golden Steering Wheel Awards, Musk also revealed that a European research and development base was also planned for Germany, in addition to the new manufacturing plant. Later on his Twitter account, Musk confirmed that the new plant would build "batteries, powertrains & vehicles, starting with Model Y". It's understood that the Model 3, that runs on the same platform as the Model Y will follow.

Speaking exclusively to Auto Express after making the Gigafactory announcement, Musk identified Brexit uncertainty as the reason why the UK wasn’t considered for the new site: “Brexit [uncertainty] made it too risky to put a Gigafactory in the UK,” Musk said.*

Brexit might have something to do with Musk’s change of heart over the R&D centre, too. Back in 2014, he told Auto Express that he planned to build an R&D base in the UK. Those plans have since been shelved.

I can't really be bothered Clav you have always felt that Brexit would be good for the economy against all evidence! It must be lovely to be in that position.

The vast majority of experienced economists (even the gov's own) all agree Brexit is an economic negative. For each example of a new business promise you scrabble to find, there are far more car, aerospace, financial services, retail etc businesses that have already left or are planning to.

There is vast evidence about the detrimental effects of leaving.

The UCL link works for me and is only one example of research. There are many more.

All the reports show that the effects of immigration on wages is tiny and sometimes it's positive. Yes in some localised areas there was a slightly negative affect on wages but in many areas the effect of immigration boosted jobs and wages by the activity generated. Overall EU migration boosted the economy. It's unarguable.The stats are there.

But it doesn't matter now anyway. EU citizens are not coming and won't do so, whatever happens with the election and brexit. They have been made unwelcome and the fallen pound makes it better to go elsewhere. That door has closed. Farage won that one.

What is missing from all leave responses is why all this hassle and economic shock was worth it. If EU immigration was the leavers' reason - well it's already being replaced by increased Asian immigration - so why was switching the source of workers worth all that hassle.

We were never going to get the first European factory though - "speaking exclusively" covers a multitude of sins.

The story from a different angle - AP News Germany;
Tesla to build factory in Germany after subsidies announced

"Germany on Wednesday hailed Tesla’s decision to build its first European factory in the country, days after the government said it would boost subsidies for buyers of electric cars."

"Tesla did not respond to requests to elaborate on how Brexit helped swing it for Berlin..."

"Tesla’s announcement comes just a week after German officials and auto industry leaders agreed to increase by half the existing government incentives for electric vehicles with a list price of up to 40,000 euros ($44,500)—an incentive Tesla can expect to profit from indirectly."

"The subsidy will also be extended from the end of 2020 currently to the end of 2025, and the government and industry agreed to aim for 50,000 publicly accessible charging stations nationwide by 2022."

Well the EU have said they won't accept an independent Scotland as a member state.

Not at all - from your Guardian link (not sure if it's the same UCL one);

"A recent UCL study showed that the typical profile of a European migrant in Britain was ... a young, single French or Spanish graduate working in the financial, technology or media industries."

Great - graduates who would pass a points-based immigration check.

well it's already being replaced by increased Asian immigration

More graduates!

Here's an idea -there's something I'd like from a devoted leaver. Get us on board. ..let's have a nice long list of post Brexit business promises (or even prospects).

Don't just focus on one company, a nice clear list will allay our fears. A list of equivalent length to cancel out all the Brexit casualties on the attached list.

That would bridge all the differences of opinion.

I'll be waiting ....
