Apparently the usual landlady over ordered on Bar nuts on the last thread. Just step over them if you find them here, as we haven’t had a chance to clear them up yet.

Welcome to all friendly parties!

I got my Libdem propaganda booklet shoved in my letterbox this morning (weirdly in all 8 glossy colour pages their isn't a single article or headline about Brexit, revoking or a referendum)

Just popping by to let Walkingdeadfangirl know that the LibDems have thoughtfully produced different versions for different parts of the country. The West Country version deliberately doesn't mention Brexit at all. Quelle surprise.

It's well after closing time, landlady, but I'll call in again tomorrow. Hopefully by then, the stools will no longer be loose.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 01/11/2019 00:35

"The West Country version deliberately doesn't mention Brexit at all. Quelle surprise"
Indeed SingingLily I am from the west country. Why do you think they have done that?

SingingLily · 01/11/2019 00:55

Evening, Walkingdeadfangirl, West Country here too 👋

The battle here has always been Conservative -v- LibDem. Labour doesn't even get a look-in. That's why Lynton Crosby got David Cameron to throw the kitchen sink at this part of the world in 2015. Since then, one or two constituencies have drifted back to the LibDems but the Brexit question changes everything because this is so clearly Leave territory.

That's why there's no mention of Brexit in their glossy leaflet. They daren't. Not here anyway.

Perhaps they think we have short little attention spans Grin

Walkingdeadfangirl · 01/11/2019 01:12

SingingLily, you are right. It is not going to sway me or anyone I know.

Mistigri · 01/11/2019 07:11

Letters sent to female MPs and their partners Sad

What have we become?

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 01/11/2019 07:21

What have we become?

Weren’t you on here yesterday posting extremely goady posts? Hmm

Mistigri · 01/11/2019 07:25

Someone being a bit annoying on the Internet is now equivalent to sending death threats to female MPs?

Do you support the "law and order" party by any chance?

Parker231 · 01/11/2019 07:32

dirty - both leavers and remainers can be as goady as each other when there is a difference of opinion. Some of the leave posters on this thread have taken the insults to the extreme if you don’t agree with them!

HateIsNotGood · 01/11/2019 07:51

Posted my concerns about this very thing yesterday Misti - but you were too busy pasting your stuff on BJ to notice.

bellinisurge · 01/11/2019 07:56

There's a fucking difference between chuckling about what a liar Johnson is and sending death threats. At least I hope you can see the difference @Walkingdeadfangirl

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 01/11/2019 08:03

You can chuckle all you like amongst yourselves, but when you deliberately target a leaver thread to post goady shit you have crossed a line.

Look at your own behaviour ffs.

Mistigri · 01/11/2019 08:09

Posted my concerns about this very thing yesterday Misti - but you were too busy pasting your stuff on BJ to notice.

Apologies for missing this - can't find it via advanced search either. What time roughly?

bellinisurge · 01/11/2019 08:11

@dirtyrottenscoundrel identify my bad behaviour on this thread.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 01/11/2019 08:16

I’m talking about Mistigri not you.

Mistigri · 01/11/2019 08:17

There's a fucking difference between chuckling about what a liar Johnson is and sending death threats.

There have been at least four convictions now for death threats sent to MPs over Brexit (all by Brexit supporters) and of course also the guy who was convicted for wanting to put out a contract on Gina Miller.

Not all targets are women but female and BAME MPs are disproportionately targeted for violent threats. Cressida Dick has said that 20 MPs bear the brunt of this, we can guess some of the names (Grieve, Soubry, Berger for starters - the latter probably getting it from both sides of the political divide).

Im disappointed that some people think that winding people up on the Internet by posting verbatim quotes from the prime minister is somehow equivalent to threatening to rape and murder MPs. But I guess we don't all share the same values.

SunnyupLands · 01/11/2019 08:40

Mistri if the vote had been honourably upheld, do you think people would be getting death threats?
I'm not excusing any violence at all but dragging this out, lying to people who voted in good faith , removing their voice by denouncing their vote. Like they do in Zimbabwe, Russia etc... People will start to get nasty.

Look at how utterly Vile some mps have been towards each other, John Mcdonal said an mp should be 'lynched'.

Another Labour mp said she would 'stab corybn in the face'.

That's pretty violent isn't it, for raising rhetoric in political world?
Some knew else said Farage should have acid chucked over him, but that was just a joke apparently.

UK are actually very mild. We don't like to march and riot. If this was frexit can anyone imagine macron getting away with this!!

bellinisurge · 01/11/2019 08:46

"Mistri if the vote had been honourably upheld, do you think people would be getting death threats?"
What a silly remark. Like saying, "if she hadn't been wearing a short skirt and makeup, she wouldn't have been assaulted ".
Catch yourself on with that rubbish.

BelleHathor · 01/11/2019 08:47

Very true Sunnyuplands yellow vests still rioting nearly a year later! Democracy is based on a very fragile social contract for the many to be governed by the few. Many of those in power appear to have forgotten that with the ways that they have tried to frustrate Brexit. I am not condoning threats or violence but can fully see why the current febrile situation could lead to violence.🤔

SunnyupLands · 01/11/2019 08:47

' I guess some of us don't agate the same values..'

Indeed. I believe body and soul in democracy.

That's all.

I don't believe in dictatorships, and I don't like autocrats.

Chucking someone's vote back in their face...

'take back your vote, your not educated enough to make this decision, it was a mistake to give you this chance, your thick, your stupid, you don't know what's best for yourself, you don't understand the issues, you were lied to, you fell for one bus slogan, your WORTHLESS....

I however am not, I know best, I'm educated I get the issues I will take away your vote and make that descion for you...

is never going to end well is itConfused

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 01/11/2019 08:57

Exactly. Can you imagine the French putting up with this?

Maybe we should be more European.

Limer · 01/11/2019 08:58

Nutcases who write those sort of letters are men who hate women. Nothing to do with Brexit, that's just a convenient hook to hang their hatred on.

Male violence is at fault here. I can't stand Diane Abbott, but I don't want her to come to any harm, I wish her a long and happy life!

DustyDiamond · 01/11/2019 09:13

What have we become?

Weren’t you on here yesterday posting extremely goady posts?

So much this.

I see loads of handwringing & despair from certain posters about attacks & harassment on MPs & other social groupings (colour, sex, religion etc).

They wax lyrical about how awful the discourse has become. They complain & express disgust about increases in physical, verbal & written abuse & nastiness. They pontificate about 'just how awful the perpetrators are'. They virtue signal constantly about their own (supposed) moral superiority. Many words are expended on this topic.

Yet they do all that without, apparently, any shred of self-awareness.

It is the self-same names that I see on other threads regularly espousing the above sentiments, who I then witness regularly come onto the only pro-Brexit threads on MN to goad, shitpost, make generalised offensive comments against leavers (who they perceive as an undesirable out-group) & on more than one occasion to deliver outright personal attacks. I personally have been subjected to sustained harassment & personal attacks by 3 separate posters over the last two weeks alone.

If you want discourse to improve, then it is time to hold a mirror up to your own actions, and be honest about how you are actually contributing to a toxic environment.

When you do, ask yourself the question:
"Are we the baddies?"

Because with respect to your repeated actions on these threads - yes, you are.

The Brexit Arms regulars do not go onto the WM threads to goad, cause friction or to attack - so why do a certain cohort of WM posters do that to our threads?
(...And for fucks sake - you even boast about what you plan to do / have done on the WM threads. We can read by the way 🙄)

MeganBacon · 01/11/2019 09:20

These threads have often gone beyond ‘being a bit annoying’ and it’s a very slippery slope once people start to be insulting, aggressive or offensive (when posts are removed). It’s all anonymous but if people can’t express themselves professionally you have to assume there is professional knowledge underlying their opinions. Also pity the lives of people who have nothing better to do than post goady nonsense.

Hollycatberry · 01/11/2019 09:21

The abuse towards MPs goes both ways, we've seen ugly scenes of JRM's child being heckled in the street and I saw on the BBC last night a story about the volume of abusive tweets towards MP rising. The point is this is unacceptable to everyone. We want good people in parliament and this environment does nothing to help attract and retain good MPs and it is perpetuated by extremists on both sides on the political spectrum. Seeing Jewish MPs having to leave their party due to antisemitic abuse sickens me. I saw a piece about Naz Shah talking about how she was bullied during the last election from an opponent because she was a moderate left candidate (rather than hard left).
If you are running around the internet trying to get rises out of people and stoke hatred then you are part of the problem and need to look at what you are trying to achieve.

Anyway. Good council election result in Bromsgrove South last night, CON gain from Labour. Obviously, not quite a direct parallel to the GE but promising all the same. Am also made up the bully Bercow has left. Lindsay Hoyle for speaker I hope!

twofingerstoEverything · 01/11/2019 09:29

You can chuckle all you like amongst yourselves, but when you deliberately target a leaver thread to post goady shit you have crossed a line.
MN is a public forum. Seriously, what "line has been crossed" by Misti or anyone else? An imaginary line where someone has expressed a different opinion?

if the vote had been honourably upheld, do you think people would be getting death threats?
Victim blaming. Nothing more to say.

Nutcases who write those sort of letters are men who hate women. Nothing to do with Brexit, that's just a convenient hook to hang their hatred on.
Nothing to do with Brexit? It's everything to do with Brexit. If you don't think so, you need to look at some of the Brexit social media pages, where language like that is commonplace (along with victim blaming...)
