Apparently the usual landlady over ordered on Bar nuts on the last thread. Just step over them if you find them here, as we haven’t had a chance to clear them up yet.

Welcome to all friendly parties!

I voted Brexit Party in EU elections as well Limer, wouldn't vote for them in GE though.

There was another local poll from yesterday that showed a Lib Dem sneaking through because of a split Tory/BXP preference 🙄

I'm not surprised re Tom Watson. He would not have been able to conduct a single interview without his involvement in Operational Midland (the false allegations about a paedophile ring in Westminster) being mentioned. Let's be honest, it would be utterly toxic for Labour so am not surprised he's stepped down. The rumours are that more moderate MPs could resign, possibly as they fear there is nothing stopping Labour cabinet lurching full on to the hard left so maybe its a case of jump before you've been pushed?

It seems to me that Momentum have been slowly pushing for this and now the plan is full effect. I don't think there is much centre ground left in Labour anymore.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 07/11/2019 09:00

So I wake up this morning to find:
A labour MP campaigning for Boris,
Jewish newspapers calling for people NOT to vote for labour,
Tom Watson surrendering to the communist left wing of labour.

Corbyn is working really hard to get the Conservatives elected, think I will have a hair of the dog for breakfast Brexit.

twofingerstoEverything · 07/11/2019 09:03

limer but Ian Austin isn't a wanker. He's a decent bloke.

Well, you would say that, wouldn't you? It's all over this thread... Labour baaaaaad (pictures of marrows, penises drawn on Corbyn's head etc), Tory good - so long as they support Brexit (so not Hammond, Clarke etc). There's no nuance here at all. It's tribal.

I am definitely not a fan of Corbyn, although I like many Labour policies, and abhor the way he has worked in opposition, but all this "this person is good/bad depending on their support/non-support for Brexit" is just ridiculous.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 07/11/2019 09:06

I live in a leave area which I’m really proud about. So it’s a Tory or brexit party vote here.

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 09:08

“I live in a leave area which I’m really proud about. So it’s a Tory or brexit party vote here.”

Same. For me it will be Tory.

@SingingLily , not a Labour marginal. Solid Labour - what apparently constitutes a "Workington man" constituency.
Over 60% leave vote. Labour MP is popular up to a point although he supported Remain , he is not a Corbynite but he is in bed with Corbyn. He's a nice enough bloke who works hard for his constituency but he has also pissed people off locally on a local environmental issue.
It would be a longish shot but I would say that Brexit Party have a chance in my constituency more than the Tories. Although Johnson's theatrics might appeal.
I despise the Brexit Party slightly more than I despise Jeremy Corbyn- who I really despise.

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 09:09

A pretty significant leave area in my case actually.

Jewish newspapers calling for people NOT to vote for labour

The Jewish Chronicle front page is quite something. For them to feel they had to write and publish it shows the concern they have is very real.

The quote below from twitter resonated with me (from Victoria Freeman):

To my fellow now Jews: voting to put Corbyn in no.10 is an immoral act when a persecuted minority community is pleading with you not to do so. Would you ignore the pleas of any other such group?

DustyDiamond · 07/11/2019 09:12

Couldn't give a toss who supports remain or leave

Ian Austin is furious about Corbyn's presiding over horrific antisemitism & I agree with him

Brexit Support is neither here nor there for me wrt Ian Austin

twofingerstoEverything · 07/11/2019 09:17

Couldn't give a toss who supports remain or leave

Sure. That's very, very evident on this thread.

mummmy2017 · 07/11/2019 09:28

I am being to wonder if this tactical voting will backfire on labour.
There is a lot of talk about Vote Tory .
But if Tory is too much for you and labour could win in your area vote Brexit party.
And leave Labour voters are thinking of doing it.
So with two elements combined, labour could lose a seat they expected to win.

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 09:28

It's a tough call, Bellini, I agree. "A plague on both your houses" doesn't even begin to describe how many people feel.

There is no party at the moment that reflects my political beliefs but the Conservative Party (Boris version, not the Theresa May version) is the nearest fit so it's a clear choice for me.

The outcome of this election, though, will be seismic whichever way it goes. The chasm between the main political parties hasn't been this stark since the Thatcher/Kinnock days.

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 09:32

Please don’t thread police.

We have taken the mickey out of Boris and his ditch, Jo swinson’s liberal democrats and now Corbyn. It’s a pub, we make jokes. They are politicians, they are ALL ripe for the picking. There is an election, it’s not just about who leave/remain voters like either.

Meh 🤷🏻‍♀️

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 09:33

Tom Harris also on Sky, supporting Ian Austin and saying Corbyn is unfit for the job. Joe Haines in The Times saying the same wrt national security.

I think Ian Austin is a decent bloke. I don't agree with some of his views but he's made an honourable stand and I respect him for it.

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 09:33

Obviously we are leave leaning however, why does that surprise you? I mean, you’ve been on these threads for years? Why the faux outrage?

OP posts:
XingMing · 07/11/2019 09:35

Momentum are doing a sterling job of clearing out the centre-left. I would like to think Ian Watson's suggestion of a new mainstream but left-leaning party will come to pass next year. You don't need to be Jewish to be horrified by the shameless persecution.

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 09:39

Interesting, XingMing, I wonder if Tom Watson, who did indeed form a pressure group of moderate Labour within the party itself, is also stepping down now so that he can emerge at a later date with "clean hands" and rebuild the Labour brand?

He's a seasoned politico after all and not stupid by any means. He might simply have read the runes and realised that Corbyn is leading the Labour Party into a cul de sac.

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 09:42

I mean, the Tories obviously get a resounding pat on the back on the other thread right? If you want some fair balance go there? Oh. Wait. Hmm yet, weirdly, not all leave voters vote tory either! 🤷🏻‍♀️

DustyDiamond · 07/11/2019 09:48

If it were a Leave Good, Remain Bad thing then Jezza would be getting all the love surely?

I hate him coz he's an odious shit who has ruined Labour - fuck all to do with his Brexit beliefs
