Apparently the usual landlady over ordered on Bar nuts on the last thread. Just step over them if you find them here, as we haven’t had a chance to clear them up yet.

Welcome to all friendly parties!

I believe labour will scrape in and go for a second referendum and Remain will win because of the sheer exhaustion and all the uncertainty.

My Leaver DH thinks the same, yellowallpaper. However, if I was Dom (or Dimitry Smile) I'd be pushing that narrative from the deepest basement of Smith Square, hoping to galvanise every Leaver to get along to the polling booth come hell or high water.

Hollycatberry · 05/11/2019 12:33

Is anyone watching Laura Pidcock on Politics Live bbc 2? Wow. She is so rude and ducking every question.

SingingLily · 05/11/2019 12:33

What Kay Burley did was force Sir Keir to admit he had eaten in the US many times without issues and finding hairs and mouse droppings or whatever Corbz tried to claim.

Does eating chlorinated chicken cause cognitive dissonance?

Shock

I think we should be told!

Epicwaffle · 05/11/2019 12:35

It’s classic #isaac now by all accounts! Apparently Dom has ‘sort of’ left the building? Don’t have a link, just picked it up from the other thread.

Regarding sky and their sudden turn around on ‘impartial’ reporting and fact checking. It’s hilarious, they have been blatantly anti brexit since day one, now the realisation is dawning that media spin (in which they have participated) could result in a corbyn government. That wouldn’t do would it? It could hit the pockets of certain well paid presenters. Nightmare. Grin

Facts ahoy! Lol.

It does happen on both sides which is shit (saw slarti's correction but still stands!)

I've always been a contrary fucker & often play devils advocate (something I do with myself as well actually for major decisions)

I've always argued the toss with people regarding the ref & political parties & don't give a toss what other people think

BUT!! I'm lucky not to have been in a position where having a contrary view might impact negatively on me - I'd maybe be very different if I was...
So I completely understand the 'quiet leaver' & 'quiet Tory' point of view.

Stereotypes. Wherever would we be without them? We'd have to treat everyone without prejudice and on their own merits. How exhausting Grin

😂😂😂

It'll never happen!!!

I think the Tories are already deliberately playing down their chances of winning. The fear factor of an imminent Corbyn govt might make some of the less than enthusiastic tory voters get up off their arses on a freezing cold day and vote.

howabout · 05/11/2019 13:32

I think the Tories are already deliberately playing down their chances of winning.

I agree with this.

The LibDems are also suggesting a free hit for Tory Remainers. Jo's latest pronouncement is all about #AnyonebutCorbyn. Smart politics as plays to Corbyn hating Labour voters and Remain Tories. Difficult for Tories to counter in London.

Epicwaffle · 05/11/2019 14:18

“I think the Tories are already deliberately playing down their chances of winning.”

This is a good possible strategy that hadn’t previously occurred to me! Could it backfire though?

Does anyone knowledgeable have any up to date polls? Or can direct me to where I would find reliable ones?

MeganBacon · 05/11/2019 14:22

If you think the side you support is a definite to win, you're more likely to stay home with your feet up. I think this was a factor in the referendum and in Clinton vs. Trump too. So yes, they need people to feel threatened so they act.

Anyway I think there's a looooonnnng way to go before anyone can predict the outcome.

MeganBacon · 05/11/2019 14:24

Hi Epic, I always look on yougov.co.uk (the political trackers) but other people may have more sophisticated sources.

Epic - today's poll tracker (average of all polls) from Britain Elects on Twitter:

DustyDiamond · 05/11/2019 14:31

I follow @britainelects @flaviblePolitic and @ElectionMapsUK on twitter - they cover & publish all recent polling including localised polling

Epicwaffle · 05/11/2019 14:31

Thanks @DustyDiamond.

Interesting change there, although not significant yet..

Yes, but it's about managing expectations and having contingencies in place, I think. Theresa May and her inner circle thought it would be a foregone conclusion based on the polls and a walk in the park. Who could forget the desperation in her voice when she insisted "Nothing has changed" in relation to the so-called dementia tax. I thought then it was her Gillian Duffy moment. You could see TM's eyes darting from side to side in consternation.

Boris is playing for much higher stakes. Democracy, Brexit, the United Kingdom, but also the very existence of the Conservative Party. Theresa tested the goodwill of party members and Tory voters to the very limits of destruction. However, it's no coincidence that the Conservative Party is the oldest in the world. It is absolutely ruthless when it has to be and it is fighting for survival.

Isaac Levido - that's the one, Epic? - is a Lynton Crosby protegé. I'm reading now that he passed the Dimitry test and Dom is content to hand him the reins.

I keep an eye on WhatUKThinks - John Curtice's website.

DustyDiamond · 05/11/2019 14:45

Lol at Dmitri test 😂😂😂

DustyDiamond · 05/11/2019 14:47

Just found the John Curtice one on twitter & given it a follow - thanks!!

I love John Curtice very much 😍

He gets so excitable about polling 😂

Limer · 05/11/2019 14:56

I'll happily discuss Leave/Remain with people if they ask, but I don't bring the subject up. Like anything political, it's a very awkward topic for many.

I naively thought that once Leave won, especially as Leave/Remain was split cross-party, that all the political parties would co-operate in the pursuit of a good deal. It's appalled me that the last 3+ years have just been wasted in cheap point-scoring on all sides.

Limer · 05/11/2019 15:10

Given that every vote will count, why isn't more being done to combat electoral fraud? It still seems childishly simple to add fictitious names to the electoral roll to get postal votes, register at more than one address (some students have boasted about doing this!) and impersonate people at the polling station.

Join the club! Anyone would be forgiven for thinking this. What a joke it’s all been.

(some students have boasted about doing this!)

That’s worrying, and a disgraceful abuse of democratic rights.

Is there anyone they can be reported to? I will keep an eye out on twitter, If I find any evidence of this, I will definitely report them to the relevant body.

Limer · 05/11/2019 15:33

I don't understand why the electoral rolls aren't cross-referenced with NI number. That way, you could only register once.

Story in today's Mail about how students are planning and publicising how to do this.

Students voting twice

Phillip Hammond not standing in Election! 🍸👏👏👏🍾
