SonEtLumiere - I don't disagree with your earlier response to me at all - I know we can never be truly independent & there will always be need for interconnectedness due to how things work & are.

I just believe that we'd be better able to operate within the globalised economy as an independent, dynamic nation state.

The EU got too complicated & overreached too much imo.

I'd have actually been ok with an EEA/EFTA/FTA style Brexit as a starting point, which would have restored most of our independence whilst still recognising the benefits of some aspects of union.

This is why I'm happy with BJ's deal - it gives us a 'disconnected enough' starting position in which to move forward

Sunnyuplands · 27/10/2019 08:53

Yes epic. And being A Remainer it's unlikely you would seek out why people want to leave.

If your family is leave or someone is your more likely to get access to the negatives.

The surprise on the remain faces Shockwhen leave student passionately advocated for leave. Many students nodding saying 'oh I didn't know that...'

But there was another group of students all leave. So it's not true that many young would vote to remain.

Sunnyuplands · 27/10/2019 08:54

'a disconnected enough'

Yy that's how I feel

DustyDiamond · 27/10/2019 08:58

Oh, and I think someone further up thread just asked if we could hook up the glitterball? Glitterball🤔

I've finally bit the bullet & reported them - I've just ignored them until now but it's relentless.

I've asked MN to look at their older posts as well to see the pattern of behaviour in context.

I rarely report people on MN so I'm pissed off that I've had to turn grass. 😩

Glitterball🙏🕯😇

Epicwaffle · 27/10/2019 09:02

Bless you dusty, I feel exactly the same since what had happened, I rarely report, but ive been quietly collating screenshots (which I obviously can’t share here) to provide context about the behaviour going forward. I’m done with it and just wont respond or rise to it anymore.

DustyDiamond · 27/10/2019 09:03

I want MP’s to go through the agreement word by word, an ‘and’ or ‘or’ in the wrong place can make all the difference. I don’t care if it takes weeks

I'd have no problem with this - it's the disingenuous & pointless wrecking amendments that I am against.

MPs have had copies of the WAB for a week now so have had much time already to comb through it.

What may be a wreaking agreement to you, may not be to others?

DustyDiamond · 27/10/2019 09:08

Nobody wins a UK election by slagging off the opposition. You need a positive message.

Definitely a positive message is mega important

Corbyn won a lot of support in 2017 because he was presenting a different vision of the future - younger people didn't care about Corbyn's dodgy ideology & past actions - attacks on him only served to help him I think

DustyDiamond · 27/10/2019 09:15

ive been quietly collating screenshots (which I obviously can’t share here)

😂😂

Don't forget you can't directly quote their previous missives either, because faithfully reporting their actual, unedited words is 'bullying' apparently Confused

Sunnyuplands · 27/10/2019 09:15

Boris is and will be far better campaigner. He exudes positivity.

I'd still like last supper mock up of labour. 😂😂 With some junker quotes and eu facts thrown in.

Parker231 · 27/10/2019 09:18

I would say the opposite about Boris - all he spouts are lies and puts his foot in it and causes more problems!

time4chocolate · 27/10/2019 09:20

Time4chocolate - transition ends December 2020 so we could no deal then. The government can choose to extend up to two years but they have to make the decision to do so by 1st July 2020. Why are you are so supportive of this WA when you seem to know so little about it?

Limited No Deal is never going to be off the table unless you ask the EU to change a legally binding document at their end. My reason for questioning JC latest mutterings about no deal in the future is that there is the possible chance we no deal in 3 months and he seems rather oblivious (to a lot of things). But as lovely PPs have pointed out it’s more smoke/mirrors and can kicking just when I thought he may have run out of excuses.

Anyway, good new in the latest opinion polls - People vs Parliament slogan seems to be effective.

And a ‘cmon you dragons’ to Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🏉

Sunny - it's interesting to see how younger people think about it all

My kids are pro leave, but I'm very conscious that they are likely heavily influenced by me so always try to get them to see the other side of things too.
They've both said that the teachers at school are very anti Brexit & they are fed anti-Brexit & anti-Tory stuff at school constantly. It was the same with my recent experience at uni - very blatant.

DustyDiamond · 27/10/2019 09:28

There are some really funny things out there slagging off Jezza & his acolytes.
MilkMedia on Twitter has some scathing stuff highlighting his antisemitism

frumpety · 27/10/2019 09:33

To be fair Dusty education has always had a tendency to stray to the left and a lot of people are quite left wing in their youth and move more towards the centre or centre right as they get older. I don't think it is related to Brexit, athough centre left and right will probably be more remainy than brexiteer Smile

Epicwaffle · 27/10/2019 09:34

“They've both said that the teachers at school are very anti Brexit & they are fed anti-Brexit & anti-Tory stuff at school constantly.”

My DS had this at primary from a couple of earnest remain teachers. He is at the local grammar now and apparently it’s not been mentioned so far, I hope that means that they advocate for freedom of thought and prefer to encourage a learning environment, not a propaganda factory. My impression so far is, they value the importance of ensuring children learn to seek out and critically analyse their own viewpoints and those of others without external interference or pressure.

Fingers crossed anyway!...

DustyDiamond · 27/10/2019 09:38

Oh I know Frumpety Smile

Parker231 · 27/10/2019 09:40

This week is going to be very interesting - can’t wait to see what tantrum Boris will throw when he doesn’t get his own way - again!

Epicwaffle · 27/10/2019 09:42

I always encourage my kids to seek out information from both sides and form their own opinions.

Sunnyuplands · 27/10/2019 09:42

Dusty I can't say too much but I have witnessed teachers peddling heavy remain stuff.

That's why I felt it quite heartening that 1 brave leaver actually opened up the minds of her peers to at least 'consider' there may be another side to this.

Which she certainly did. And it was heartening to see leave students as well, and the peddling falling on deaf ears.
Depending on the subject, type of teacher, how long they see students for, I think students influenced by parents more and people around them at home. Wider family etc.

We are a split house hold. Dh remain, I am leave. Dd has said, 'whichever side you support you should be worried about the threat to our democracy if this vote isn't honoured' and I'm very pleased with that.

DustyDiamond · 27/10/2019 09:45

I was at a girls grammar for the first 3 years of secondary then we moved & I did the last 3 years at a comp.

There were positives & negatives to each school but those first 3 years in the grammar were invaluable as they really pushed the independent, critical thought stuff - to question everything & don't be afraid to aspire to bigger things.

Was a waste of my time doing fucking Latin for 3 years though 🙄😂
Was in my element when I got to the comp & was able to do technical & engineering classes!

Epicwaffle · 27/10/2019 09:46

When I was at school, we had a (male) RE teacher, peddling the line that abortion was wrong, and murder in ALL cases, rape included. The other kids mostly all bought into it (particularly the boys Hmm) but I got sent out of class for putting up my very strong objections to that bullshit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Epicwaffle · 27/10/2019 09:46

I should add, that it was a catholic school.

Sunnyuplands · 27/10/2019 09:47

Epic, this is one huge reason I really wanted dd in grammar.

Unfortunately logistics mean she didn't get in. But this is exactly the type of learning environment I wanted for her.
It's not even so much the stuff that's being pushed and spouted, it's the culture and mentality of the school and teachers who would do it in first place.

I really wanted dd in school like yours epic Sad

All I can do is keep encouraging her to ask why people say things, the framework behind it etc..
