It's great that some people can find humour in the prospect of a no deal.

Sunnyuplands · 25/10/2019 20:20

Do we want putins Russia?.

Mugabe Zimbabwe.

Or do we want to live in a democracy??

MeganBacon · 25/10/2019 20:21

39 seat majority according to yesterday's yougov numbers. I know that can change but he's a good campaigner, unlike TM.

Sunnyuplands · 25/10/2019 20:21

Pingu I agree.... It's really important to be able to laugh at things in life.

No deal brexit we can live with... The end of democracy?.. I couldn't laugh at that

TheSultanofPingu · 25/10/2019 20:22

Hyperbolic crap Sunny

TheSultanofPingu · 25/10/2019 20:23

That was to your Russia/Zimbabwe comparison.

frumpety · 25/10/2019 20:28

Megan we will have to agree to disagree on revoke then Smile
3 and a half years after the referendum result and I still believe it is the best option, I also believe that one of the few people who could make it happen is Boris.
If anything had convinced me that leaving the EU would mean a better life for 65 million people then my viewpoint would be different , it hasn't so it isn't. There really is a part of me that wishes I could say otherwise.

Bearbehind · 25/10/2019 20:31

I also believe that one of the few people who could make it happen is Boris.

Give it a few more months the way things are going and BJ will have Leavers on here convinced that Revoke was what they wanted all along.

Sunnyuplands · 25/10/2019 20:32

Frumpy do lots of reading round the subject I'm sure you'd find something to make life better for 65 mullion people than be shackled to a monolithic dying whale that's crushing and crippling generations of subjects in wake of impossible ideology.

Sunnyuplands · 25/10/2019 20:32

I doubt it bear 🐻 Grin

frumpety · 25/10/2019 20:33

Sunny I did and continue to do lots of reading around the subject, and I ask questions, lots of questions and the same thing happens, I get rhetoric and soundbites, but not an awful lot of facts and figures explaining how things will be better for all of the population of the UK and especially the ones I care about, who happen to be particularly vulnerable to the vagaries of politics ?

Sunnyuplands · 25/10/2019 21:19

Frumpy the research I did was papers, news paper, research stuff.... Goodness I felt like I was doing a PhD!!

There was no one to answer my questions!

I didn't have eu experts lined up to real.. I search stuff out.. When you say you got no straight answers I don't know what you mean.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 25/10/2019 21:22

The EU has agreed the principle of an extension, just not the end date.
So no leaving on 31st Oct.

I did say it was a million to one chance. But Macron has been saying 'a few days' or maybe a 'few weeks'. Is that enough time for Corbyn to eat humble pie and beg Boris another chance at his deal?
If a GE is refused next week, literally what is the point in the EU giving us another extension? If the UK promise to waste another 3 months then Macron might very well only allow a very short time and no deal is back on the table.

GreenishMe · 25/10/2019 21:24

I've been reading an interesting LSE article. It describes vote losers not as one group but as two distinct groups - 'graceful' and 'sore'.

Obviously the second group can't accept the outcome but are, according to the study, the smaller of the two groups. I'm guessing that 99% of remainers on here and also on the (so called) Peoples' Vote march belong to the second group also. It's kind of a relief to know that these are actually a minority and not really a true representation of remain voters.

Although, it's a pity that there are so many of the 'sore' group in Parliament.

DustyDiamond · 25/10/2019 21:26

I think I read that a few weeks ago Greenish - def rings a bell...

Was v interesting, I'm off to look for it again now!

DustyDiamond · 25/10/2019 21:42

The positive sign of the ‘Happy (to leave)’ variable suggests that ‘graceful’ losers’ reacted to their defeat in a less emotionally intense way than did ‘sore’ losers.

Furthermore...'graceful’ losers’...more likely to use democratic principles to form their view of the referendum outcome’s legitimacy – which made them more likely to accept their side’s defeat.

Overall, these findings suggest that ‘graceful’ losers over Brexit...were more inclined to judge the merits of democracy in procedural terms.

We suggest that the ‘graceful’ losers...are an indispensable component of the democratic majority in the aftermath of an electoral campaign, and that they contribute to the stability of democratic regimes.

GreenishMe · 25/10/2019 21:42

I don't know how it will help with a view to getting Brexit finalised......but it certainly helps to remind me why we shouldn't feel pressurised into justifying our reasons for voting the way we did to anyone.....particularly anyone on here.

GreenishMe · 25/10/2019 21:44

I'll drink to that! Wine Wine Smile

DustyDiamond · 25/10/2019 21:49

Nobody needs to justify themselves to anyone Greenish Smile

I find the psychology of it all fascinating - the various motivations for voting either way, the reaction after the ref, the psychology of political strategy & marketing a message, the type, speed & quality of processing different twists & turns, the group psychology as well as individual

I've been lucky to have lots of time to read loads around it all as I finished in my last job a few months before the ref & I've been a full time student since.
Now I'm gutted that I'm going to be back working full time before the endgame! 😂

frumpety · 25/10/2019 21:49

I think I am very much the definition of a sore loser. The problem is I care too much about the people who apparently aren't losers Grin

Miljah · 25/10/2019 21:49

You can call remainers who do not believe leaving the EU to be in the best interests of anyone 'sore', as long as I can call you 'thick'.

Equally unappealing, aren't they?

Grow up.

DustyDiamond · 25/10/2019 21:50

It's a fucking study 🙄

Frumpety 😂
