Westminstenders: Super Saturday

Parliament sits on a Saturday for the first time since the Falklands.

A deal has been reached with the EU. Its utterly shite and worse for the UK than May's deal. It even leaves no deal as an option after transition.

The DUP don't like it. They got predictably shafted.

Tomorrow is a debate and vote on the deal. Amendments are key, in particular the Letwin amendment which seeks to close a loophole in the Benn Act and stop the Deal being adopted tomorrow, instead forcing the ultimate decision over the deal to a later date and forcing an extension.

Which the EU may or may not agree to.

There is also talk of forcing another ref via amendments but this, unlike the Letwin amendment is unlikely to pass.

The vote tomorrow looks to be very tight. The Letwin amendment passes looks likely to make Johnson fail to have the numbers. However there is talk that enough Labour MPs have decided to back the deal.

There is also a big anti Brexit march in London tomorrow (which runs the risk of having problems with the Extinction Rebellion ban). Good luck to everyone going tomorrow.

See you on the other side (which might now be on this thread!!)

@Basilpots gah. Now when I watch the English Open snooker later I'm going to see them potting IDSs head every time 😩

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 19/10/2019 10:31

Good luck to all marchers today. I have been to all of the others, but feel utterly depressed and sick today. Just want to go back to bed and ignore it all. I am exhausted. I know that's the wrong attitude, don't shout at me.

Will be thinking of you all Flowers

Why does it matter if the letwin amendment goes through, if BJ is intending to sign up to the deal anyway? Isn’t the letwin amendment just to avoid BJ lying and taking us out with no deal?

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2019 10:35

No, the Letwin amendment is to allow MPs time to properly consider the deal before deciding whether to vote for it.

YeOldeTrout · 19/10/2019 10:35

BJ is acquiring quite a Alfred Hitchcock shape, isn't he?

Can’t bring myself to watch this bunch of xxxxs talk xxxx

Much less likely I start shouting and throwing things if I listen to you guys instead. Thanks all.

Ps I’m not going to be there till around 530 due to work. Would it still be worth it? Anyone’s guess, perhapsHmm

prettybird · 19/10/2019 10:37

Random - can't speak more widely as being in Glasgow, I'm in a Yes bubble.

But my general impression is white hot fury and a steely determination that this is the material change required for Indyref2.

But whatever happens, both countries (England and Scotland) will be poorer after all these events (FUKD leaving the EU and Scotland leaving FUKD) because a hard border of some sort will now be required in Britain.

The sad thing is that if Yes had won in 2014, then none of these problems might have transpired, as I doubt that Leave would have won (if indeed the EU Referendum would've been held Confused) and Scotland would've had time to sort out some sort of arrangement (as an accession state) with the EU to avoid a hard border.

I also see stronger support for Welsh independence being a consequence. The "Welsh" vote for Leave, research has shown, was actually swung by English incomers.

RedToothBrush · 19/10/2019 10:38

Naomi O'Leary @naomiohreally
Loyalist source tells me the deal is seen as "the final betrayal". Meetings have been held and a larger gathering is expected next week. "The only away serious civil unrest will be averted now is it the deal is taken permanently off the table."

If there was a VONC and the DUP refused to support the government woyld the vote succeed ? Could the DUP cancel out those rebel Tories who won't support Corbyn ?

Doubting death: how our brains shield us from mortal truth
Brain seems to categorise death as something that only befalls other people

Well that explains a few things...

BJ just baldly lies in his responses. ConfusedAngry

Snowy111 · 19/10/2019 10:44

But fluffy the amendment will stop formal approval being given until legislation is put in place, so what difference does it make if the vote is on Monday or today? It still won’t count, so why delay the vote?

I’m genuinely confused Confused

PotterHead1985 · 19/10/2019 10:44

@prettybird yup. And half the time he is not answering the questions he is being asked.

YeOldeTrout · 19/10/2019 10:45

Love what JGreening just said.
BJ would sell his gran out if it achieved his political ambitions.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 19/10/2019 10:45

I dont think Greening will vote for anything Johnson brings to the house

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 19/10/2019 10:48

'The time has come to uncork the Gauke', thank FUCK for Bercow

PotterHead1985 · 19/10/2019 10:50

@MaudBaileysGreenTurban Bercow is the best thing about watching this!

RedToothBrush · 19/10/2019 10:54

Paul Brand@paulbranditv
CONFIRMED: If Letwin passes, No 10 will essentially ask Conservative MPs to abstain by sending them home. The government can’t actually withdraw the meaningful vote at this late stage, but they argue that Letwin makes it a ‘meaningless vote’ and they’ll boycott it.

Instead govt would introduce the Withdrawal Agreement Bill next week and the second reading would be taken as the meaningful vote on PM’s deal.

All eyes will be on what PM says following Letwin vote this afternoon... that’ll give us the best idea of what happens next

OP posts:
FieldsOfLavender · 19/10/2019 10:55

Can someone explain what it means if they delay the vote until monday? Why are they doing that? What will it achieve?

Basilpots · 19/10/2019 10:56

Pretty & Random. If you and NI leave us we will have to rebrand. No more UK or GB we will be WANGERLAND !!!

Complete with new flag featuring a rather looking aggrieved Welsh dragon and St George’s cross. Shock

I don’t get it.

If the Tories decide to all strop off and go home and not vote for their own bill, can’t the remaining parties simply continue to vote? Then you might have 4 votes in favour and 280 votes against so it doesn’t pass?

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2019 10:57

That's not the question you asked the first time, Snowy! I don't know why you'd delay it really. Just BoZo playing games no doubt.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 19/10/2019 10:58

Thanks Red
I haven't been able to follow the last few threads having had a very difficult few weeks. Didn't think I'd be able to attend the march this time due to DH not being able to be alone that long (Parkinson's) but we came up to Surrey last night and he's spending the day with his DM and DSF so I am on a train to Waterloo and planning to meet up with listeningquietlySmile

Couldn't find my flag so step father-in-law offered me his EU golfing umbrella. DH vetoed it as he thought it would make me a target for counter-demonstrators.

Basilpots · 19/10/2019 11:00

A weekend of sustained pressure on waverers maybe ???
