Westminstenders: Super Saturday

Parliament sits on a Saturday for the first time since the Falklands.

A deal has been reached with the EU. Its utterly shite and worse for the UK than May's deal. It even leaves no deal as an option after transition.

The DUP don't like it. They got predictably shafted.

Tomorrow is a debate and vote on the deal. Amendments are key, in particular the Letwin amendment which seeks to close a loophole in the Benn Act and stop the Deal being adopted tomorrow, instead forcing the ultimate decision over the deal to a later date and forcing an extension.

Which the EU may or may not agree to.

There is also talk of forcing another ref via amendments but this, unlike the Letwin amendment is unlikely to pass.

The vote tomorrow looks to be very tight. The Letwin amendment passes looks likely to make Johnson fail to have the numbers. However there is talk that enough Labour MPs have decided to back the deal.

There is also a big anti Brexit march in London tomorrow (which runs the risk of having problems with the Extinction Rebellion ban). Good luck to everyone going tomorrow.

See you on the other side (which might now be on this thread!!)

What's the point of pulling today and then trying to it through on Monday? Does the Letwin amendment carry over?

Random18 · 19/10/2019 10:05

If it passes of course

Random18 · 19/10/2019 10:06

Is hoping EU will refuse extension? I don't think they will. An extension could possibly see a change of government and I can't see how the EU would be adverse to that. As long as its friendlier.......

Violetparis · 19/10/2019 10:09

Thought Corbyn did well there. Not sure what bringing the deal back on Monday will achieve Confused

Oh perfect, I'd not realised that the Benn act specified the text, that's good news then!

dontcallmelen · 19/10/2019 10:12

Sorry meant to say hope the March goes well & peacefully, thank you everyone who is able to attend.

prettybird · 19/10/2019 10:14

Can now watch the HoC live (between games).

I see that BJ is now promulgating Project Fear about the future of the EU - and trying to sell unicorns in that there will be a FTA deal with zero tariffs and zero trade barriers Hmm Without the Level Playing Field, he is "on tae plums" with that idea Confused

PotterHead1985 · 19/10/2019 10:15

Agree with the SNP.

In other news England won!

Now here's hoping Ireland trounce NZ. Although raging there is no chance of an Eng-Ire final

MockersthefeMANist · 19/10/2019 10:16

Blackford can be such a windbag sometimes.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 19/10/2019 10:18

Blustering Boris.

MrsPussinBoots · 19/10/2019 10:19

Thank you every one for updating this thread. I'm "watching" a dance class and trying to follow the debate here and on Twitter. Good luck to everyone marching.

Smug face on IDS

YeOldeTrout · 19/10/2019 10:20

hmmm... Ken Clarke is sitting next to T-May. Wonder if that means something. How is KC voting??

About what time will the vote result be announced for Letwin's amendment? Odious IDS speaking so I have a room to vacuum for 5 minutes.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/10/2019 10:20

I have had to turn off IDS. I am worried for the safety of my iPad as I have an irrational urge to punch the screen.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 19/10/2019 10:20

I'd love TM to ask bozo why he's just presenting her deal with bits tippexed out as though it's his own. She's been silent since he took over.

MockersthefeMANist · 19/10/2019 10:21

The FTA cannot possibly be concluded in time. This will not "get it over with."

Take the example of fishing. The Brexies are absolutely adament that not one EU boat should ever be allowing into UK waters, but most of what the UK fleet catches is not wanted by UK consumers. Sea urchins and whelks rotting on the quayside.

Then there's cars, Airbus, pharma, and BJ apparently only wants free trade in goods, which is just great for a nation with a trade deficit for over forty years.

prettybird · 19/10/2019 10:21

Ken Clarke always sits next to May, since she moved back to the backbenchers.

AutumnCrow · 19/10/2019 10:21

Joining in. Too stressed to turn TV on yet.

Iain Duncan Smith is up, god help us all. Like a human skin stretched around snooker balls. Ian Dunt.

Thats for you PotterGrin

prettybird · 19/10/2019 10:28

Have today that I was impressed at Nigel Dodds (Shock) for dialling back his fury and actually managing to sound quite reasonable Shock - rather than the usual DUP blood red lines "we will never surrender".

BJ in his response demonstrates that he doesn't have a clue about NI. Angry

Random18 · 19/10/2019 10:29

Pretty how is the mood in Scotland? I know how I feel as a Scot living elsewhere in the UK.

I just don't think the Union can survive this. I do not particularly like Ian Blackford although i do think he has represented the SNP well in Westminster. But he is right. What thought has been given to Scotland.

It's not only the DUP that Johnson has thrown under the bus, its 5 million Scots (or whatever number).

Thinking of the Proclaimers song 'Cap in Hand' this morning.
