Big week ahead.

Johnson has until Tuesday Afternoon to get his shit together for the EU.

He thinks it can be down, but still lots to do in that time.

This week we have the Queen's Speech too, which is going to be misused as a party political broadcast.

Remember if the government can't pass the QS, there's a crisis that gets generated as a direct result. Sticking in proposals that any liberal or leftie will struggle with, is deliberately provoking a crisis of that nature. A proposal of that type would have to be anti democratic in nature, like... Ermmm... Voter ID. Hell, well what do you know.

Johnson is still after his election because as it stands he's a passenger stuck in the runaway train of his own creation.

Talk of a deal breakthrough is still overstated too. The DUP and many of the usual ERG suspects have poured water on the idea. And many on the opposition benches are pushing hard on a confirmary ref being needed for a deal - they don't have the numbers yet, but talk is that they are close. We also have loyalist military making threats about an Irish Sea Border solution.

Time for Project Shit Meets Fan.

I'm attending a Trial today, so enforced radio silence for me!

Grinand Thanks@OTBBBK.

PotterHead1985 · 16/10/2019 08:07

I haven't slept yet so I am delirious!

thecatfromjapan · 16/10/2019 08:10

Personally, I think he's likely to get EU approval for this dog's breakfast Deal.

So I'm saving my stress-response for when it is presented to the Commons, along with a load of obscene and outrageous bungs and a lot of right-wing media hoopla.

I think that is going to make me furious, nauseous, despairing and with in-orbit-level stressed.

So I plan on feeling depressed-but-essentially-calm today.

🤷‍♀️

RedToothBrush · 16/10/2019 08:14

Not expecting much before 11 and possibly even later than that.

I am intrigued by the story that there is a Eurostar with Cable et al on board. I'm not sure what they are thinking they can do, but they can't do much here until this WA is put to Parliament I suppose.

Leavers I know have all gone deathly quiet. Not sure they are keeping up and tbh not sure the media is either.

My Optimistic October calendar today says “remember things can change for the better.” I’m trying to hold on to that sentiment with both hands.

Not sure how true that is but it was retweeted by Heidi Allen

I was talking yesterday - albeit to various colour of remain...... one a business owner who is being seriously affected by the uncertainty..... he is vaguely keeping in touch with what is happening, but has the head down approach.... the other just can't cope with the stress of it all so in completely tuned out.

I think there is a general fatigue.

Was hugely cheered to see the Torygraphs profit is done hugely sometimes it's the small things.

Interesting group - Greive, Lammy and Cable....... they can't negotiate a extension- but maybe sounding out if the did a GNU would they get an extension? Who knows, just a surprising grouping

JeSuisPoulet · 16/10/2019 08:47

To be fair everyone on this thread knows things will get worse for UK as a whole after Brexit. I personally feel we have all been waiting for the sewing patters to see what kind of ridiculous outfit we will now be made to sew and wear for eternity. I suspect it looks like a jesters suit...

ContinuityError · 16/10/2019 08:56

Less jester suit and more Emperor’s new clothes?

Violetparis · 16/10/2019 08:56

The Guardian's politics live blog reports that The Irish Times is saying that Dublin and the EU are also offering the DUP a multi million package of investment. Not impressed by any of this, magic money trees all round when it suits the politics.

Fucking DUP
Cunts

lonelyplanetmum · 16/10/2019 09:02

Offering the DUP huge financial benefits was obvious all along really wasn't it. Do all principles have a price?

I can start to imagine how Scotland would feel about this though.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2019 09:04

If the government changes they won't be bound by its predecessor so won't have to pay it though, will they?

Hope the DUP remembers that those who can be bought can also be sold.

That's an interesting question Fluffy what form do these bribes agreements take.

May's was a payment in return confidence and supply agreement. Presumably that has an age old format that is done on trust?

This one is a payment in return for ( we assume) agreeing to the sea border principle and voting for it. Perhaps a simple contract is drawn up that could be sued on in the civil courts? Or perhaps it's also done on trust- risky. Arlene is good at this , so perhaps they actually get a physical transfer over of the funds.

Inniu · 16/10/2019 09:13

If billions for NI were properly spent they could make a huge difference.
Discontent festers and terrorist recruit in areas of severe deprivation.

But the money won’t be well spent. It will be siphoned off in pet projects that benefit the few...... and the corrupt.

According to @nicktolhurst

Understand the amount of money offered to the DUP by Johnson has gone “way beyond that offered by Theresa May” for electoral support. Hmm

Where is all this money coming from?

TheMShip · 16/10/2019 09:18
