Big week ahead.

Johnson has until Tuesday Afternoon to get his shit together for the EU.

He thinks it can be down, but still lots to do in that time.

This week we have the Queen's Speech too, which is going to be misused as a party political broadcast.

Remember if the government can't pass the QS, there's a crisis that gets generated as a direct result. Sticking in proposals that any liberal or leftie will struggle with, is deliberately provoking a crisis of that nature. A proposal of that type would have to be anti democratic in nature, like... Ermmm... Voter ID. Hell, well what do you know.

Johnson is still after his election because as it stands he's a passenger stuck in the runaway train of his own creation.

Talk of a deal breakthrough is still overstated too. The DUP and many of the usual ERG suspects have poured water on the idea. And many on the opposition benches are pushing hard on a confirmary ref being needed for a deal - they don't have the numbers yet, but talk is that they are close. We also have loyalist military making threats about an Irish Sea Border solution.

Time for Project Shit Meets Fan.

Very late pmk to find out what happens later today

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/10/2019 05:14

Nicola Sturgeon wants a referendum on independence in 2020.
Once the Scots have left the United Kingdom; we will be left with an England and Wales ( and semi detached NI; if it stays in the Customs Union) full of Leavers.

Parliament needs to pass the best possible deal; because once the UK leaves, and the Union breaks up; there will be no return for England and Wales; if at all, for generations; without the benefit of the Scottish remain vote.

Well. I

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2019 07:08

It's totally fucked. I'm sick of it, frankly.

cherin · 16/10/2019 07:10

I’m afraid it was always supposed to be a worse deal, by default- it’s the second attempt, with an even weaker parliament (self inflicted further loss of majority, genius), by a PM that has absolutely nothing to recommend himself over the previous one besides a superficial affability. We knew he was more incompetent and more selfish than TM....he’s less of a robot, that’s his prime advantage. Imagine having to cling to that quality, potentially for years, if he had to do real negotiations....

cherin · 16/10/2019 07:15

If it makes you feel better, most of Europe is dealing with similar demons, I have a polish young and brilliant colleague that is utterly depressed by latest elections back home.
Only, we’re really going at it, trying to shoot our toes on the false assumption that “it’s gojng to be good for us in the end”, and looking for blunter and blunter instruments cause the sooner we do it the better it is??
:-((

How on Earth is BJ going to pass that WA when it’s worse than TM’s and hers was rejected 3 times? It could easily be framed as that or NO Deal and forcing MPs hands. They will be the ones. Held responsible whatever the (awful) choice

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 16/10/2019 07:29

I have mentally assumed crash position and am saying a few Hail Marys.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 16/10/2019 07:30

Currently looks like they might vote to transfer the entire BoE reserves to a Nigerian Prince - so long as he went to Eton & told good jokes

We're only doing that because his money is tied up right now, we will get it back with interest

David Allen Green@davidallengreen
There is now not enough time for any UK "legal text" to be translated into all the EU languages and be properly considered in all 27 EU27 capitals in time for the Council Meeting

Am nervous about later I would much rather revoke or if we really must the most soft Brexit

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2019 07:40

So what exactly is it that has to be brought back to the HoC via the Kinnock amendment, should Benn kick in? Is it the WA or the WAIB? I think I'm confused. (Not helped by only 4 and a bit hours' sleep last night due to a gig in London!)

ContinuityError · 16/10/2019 07:41

I’m hearing that there’s possibly a new 11am EU deadline this morning?

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2019 07:49

So 2 hours then? I wonder what can be achieved in 2 hours?!

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 16/10/2019 07:53

I can eat a fair amount of biscuits due to anxiety by 11am and drink a couple of cups of tea. I've still managed to stick to giving up chocolate despite the stress Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2019 07:56

I'm going for a bike ride in the pouring rain to cheer myself up.
