Westminstenders: Showdown

Big week ahead.

Johnson has until Tuesday Afternoon to get his shit together for the EU.

He thinks it can be down, but still lots to do in that time.

This week we have the Queen's Speech too, which is going to be misused as a party political broadcast.

Remember if the government can't pass the QS, there's a crisis that gets generated as a direct result. Sticking in proposals that any liberal or leftie will struggle with, is deliberately provoking a crisis of that nature. A proposal of that type would have to be anti democratic in nature, like... Ermmm... Voter ID. Hell, well what do you know.

Johnson is still after his election because as it stands he's a passenger stuck in the runaway train of his own creation.

Talk of a deal breakthrough is still overstated too. The DUP and many of the usual ERG suspects have poured water on the idea. And many on the opposition benches are pushing hard on a confirmary ref being needed for a deal - they don't have the numbers yet, but talk is that they are close. We also have loyalist military making threats about an Irish Sea Border solution.

Time for Project Shit Meets Fan.

Another despairing PMK.

Thank you RTB.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/10/2019 20:48

Thanks, red 💐

Although it is convention that when a QS is voted down, there is a VoNC, afaik it is not mandatory

I'm sure BJ / Cum are trying to provoke the opposition into calling one, but I'd expect they'd just vote down the QS and trade insults

NoWordForFluffy · 13/10/2019 20:50

If it wasn't such a bloody crisis, it would be hilarious watching BoCum get thwarted at every turn with regards their cunning plans. Surely we're on Plan N by now?

tobee · 13/10/2019 20:54

Place marking

I wrote a long post on the other thread before realising it was full 🙄

The gist of it was that it also quite hard to get passports and ID cards witnessed/countersigned having recently looked at who is eligible and in what way that they have known you. So ID card is hard to get for some people not just due to the expense.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/10/2019 20:55

I agree the chances for a new WA look slim

  • the "breakthrough" was partly both sides showing they were doing their absolute utmost in a last effort - and we'll likely to end up with the same choices as we had before:

No Deal vs May's WA vs Revoke

Probably with an extension though, so time to faff around, time to try to get votes for a PV
I'll say it for Tusk:
"Don't waste this time too, you fools !"

imo a PV can only get sufficient votes in the HoC and actually be politically binding if BJ / the Tory govt agree to it
That's not as unlikely as it was, but still looks unlikely

@red What do you think about a PV ?

BigChocFrenzy · 13/10/2019 21:01

Request to Bercow and anyone else completing their stash, or doing the shopping, please

Boycott Flora !
and all the other Upfield company's crap

From the AIBU thread, Flora have stopped advertising on MN in yet another TRA attempt to silence women

Silencing debate & censoring points of view are a nasty trend on the political left in particular
Stopping us talking about problems doesn't stop the problems

BigChocFrenzy · 13/10/2019 21:06

That's a v important point, tobee

Many people don't realise how isolating poverty is, particularly generational poverty & disadvantage

Often the very poor & vulnerable don't personally know anyone who is authorised to countersign e.g. passport applications

yolofish · 13/10/2019 21:10

Pantherkitty Marking Knees with kneady claws.

The point above about the difficulty of obtaining certified ID is a very good one - although not poor and vulnerable, I know longer know anyone in the 'approved' category of counter signatories. Surely, like for opening a bank account, where eg bills are used, that should be enough?

@BigChocFrenzy fret not, I wouldn't use it to grease the cat's paws and boycott ocado too. Butter all the way here!

Apologies if this has already been posted already.

Bojo the Clown's Brexit deal would make people worse off than May's deal...
www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/oct/13/boris-johnson-brexit-deal-theresa-may-trade

We are just going round in circles.

RedToothBrush · 13/10/2019 21:35

Watching Celebrity Hunted which has Stanley Johnson on.

Some fascinating psychology going on, with Stanley's total disregard for advice and cavalier approach...

... Can't think where his son gets it from.

I'm watching it thinking how Boris's aids are asking him if x is a good idea and him blustering, well of course it is, whilst the aids cringe...

@red What do you think about a PV ?

High risk.

Can't say I'm a huge fan...
