Big week ahead.

Johnson has until Tuesday Afternoon to get his shit together for the EU.

He thinks it can be down, but still lots to do in that time.

This week we have the Queen's Speech too, which is going to be misused as a party political broadcast.

Remember if the government can't pass the QS, there's a crisis that gets generated as a direct result. Sticking in proposals that any liberal or leftie will struggle with, is deliberately provoking a crisis of that nature. A proposal of that type would have to be anti democratic in nature, like... Ermmm... Voter ID. Hell, well what do you know.

Johnson is still after his election because as it stands he's a passenger stuck in the runaway train of his own creation.

Talk of a deal breakthrough is still overstated too. The DUP and many of the usual ERG suspects have poured water on the idea. And many on the opposition benches are pushing hard on a confirmary ref being needed for a deal - they don't have the numbers yet, but talk is that they are close. We also have loyalist military making threats about an Irish Sea Border solution.

Time for Project Shit Meets Fan.

He's been sacked twice for lying; he's a congenital liar; he's deep in dodgy dealings
yet still more voters trust BJ than anyone else - still a minority though.

In contrast, even Labour voters don't seem to trust JC
and fewer trust MPs

Britain Elects@britainelects

64% of 2017 Conservative voters trust Boris Johnson on Brexit;
36% of 2017 Labour voters trust Jeremy Corbyn on Brexit.

On much you trust [X] to make the right decisions on Brexit:

Boris Johnson:
Trust: 32%
Do not trust: 60%

Jeremy Corbyn:
Trust: 16%
Do not trust: 76%

Parliament:
Trust: 14%
Do not trust: 77%

Just musing here, I think the Cash for Ash scandal investigation will be dropped, plus another billion and that might keep DUP happy and all will be well. Ha fkn ha, but it's a start.

There is a book out now about the Cash for Ash or CFA if you will. and it is causing ructions within DUP. Now I wonder why?

Called "Burned" by Sam Mc Bride. DUP threatening to sue the publishers, but word on the street is, they have no defence!

Ho hum.

tobee · 15/10/2019 17:25

I think the most disturbing stat in those polls are those about trust in parliament. Sounds like Johnson/Cummings have got what they apparently wanted. (Plus Farage to an extent)

Like to know what the figures were 2,3,5,10 and 20 years ago for example.

Oh look, here comes Arlene

The DUP has released a statement appealing for the Stormont Assembly to be recalled to avert the Westminster deadline kicking in next week, which will overturn NI’s ban on abortion and same-sex marriage

Westminstenders: Showdown
BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 15/10/2019 17:42

Can someone please explain why the NI assembly hasn't been sitting? The information has gone awol in my brain.

squid4 · 15/10/2019 17:44

No flu jabs in our hospital yet

TheMShip · 15/10/2019 17:45

#Brexit
Am hearing from various sources that #Johnson is

-conceding dynamic alignment with EU customs regs &singlemarket rules for #NorthernIreland

-opposing EU-UK level playing field on workers rights/env standards/health&safety, so less UK access to EUmarket

=>Trouble ahead

TheMShip · 15/10/2019 17:46

Oops missed attribution. Richard Corbett, MEP

Hoooo · 15/10/2019 17:48

Just waiting for ds2s which should be done at school

Outsomnia · 15/10/2019 17:51

Bercows,

Cash for Ash scandal that enriched many Unionist elites, and the refusal of Unionists to acknowledge the Irish Language Act. And probably many other niggling things too.

Anyway, if not reconvened soon, abortion and gay marriage will be made law in NI. DUP seem to be heading for a deal because of this threat now.

That, and I reckon the other deal of not investigating CFA Cash for ash plus another billion or so hush money.

ListeningQuietly · 15/10/2019 17:53

Bercows
Stormont not sitting basically because of Cash For Ash

Not sure why anybody cares about the DUP though
as with a majority of -42 their votes are not enough to make a difference in the HoC

TheMShip · 15/10/2019 17:58

LQ On a tight WA vote, the DUP 10 still matter greatly.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/10/2019 18:00

I would be massively pissed off if they get another bung,
including having any Cash For Ash enquiries stopped / people told they won't be prosecuted

All a bit late in the day to be grappling over such things! The next 24 hours will be interesting!

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 15/10/2019 18:24

I anticipate a bit fat fail by JoCum tonight. No way he can meet Barnier's deadline. Can he??

ContinuityError · 15/10/2019 18:29

Peston is reporting that BJ really is going to send a second letter with the extension request letter specified by the Benn act

Yeah ... that’s not going to fly. Johnson promised the Scottish Courts he wouldn’t frustrate the Benn Act.

Although I’d be very happy to see a civil action brought against him by a major company for any losses incurred as a result of his actions.

Outsomnia · 15/10/2019 18:29

This has all the hallmarks of a pre arranged agreement in the Tunnel, with a bit of drama added for the media.

My observation is, where will the objections emanate from? Everywhere possibly. Would we be back to square one?

If not, this should have happened at the start. Numpties. All of them.

But remember it's a man in charge now, not TM, so all systems go I suppose. And what a "man". Ugh.

thecatfromjapan · 15/10/2019 18:40

I'm sure it's been said before but this deal explicitly rules out alignment with the EU on H & S and workers' rights.

And - again - I just cannot get my head around the people who vote for this.

Who - who - consciously votes to lower working rights for their children and grandchildren?

It really is quite sick. ☹️

Hoooo · 15/10/2019 18:42

Yep.
To have benefitted from EU regs alk these years and now they are no longer working/bringing up kids they just don't care..
A special place in hell.

thecatfromjapan · 15/10/2019 18:46

Yes, @Hoo, these are my children's working lives; I find the thought they won't enjoy the benefits my generation acquired almost unbearable.

I genuinely cannot enter the mindset of the people that would do this to their kith and Kim. 🤷‍♀️

thecatfromjapan · 15/10/2019 18:51

Really.
What conversation can you honestly have with people who, secretly, deep down inside, envy, hate and wish actual harm - albeit harm delivered by another hand - on their children?

You can't.

They're beyond communication.

Hoooo · 15/10/2019 18:55

Yep.
It's beyond my understanding

TheMShip · 15/10/2019 18:56

Interesting, from George Peretz QC:

A vote under s1(1)(a) Benn Act to remove the PM’s duty to ask for an extension on 19 October would require the full legal text to have been put before Parliament.
