Big week ahead.

Johnson has until Tuesday Afternoon to get his shit together for the EU.

He thinks it can be down, but still lots to do in that time.

This week we have the Queen's Speech too, which is going to be misused as a party political broadcast.

Remember if the government can't pass the QS, there's a crisis that gets generated as a direct result. Sticking in proposals that any liberal or leftie will struggle with, is deliberately provoking a crisis of that nature. A proposal of that type would have to be anti democratic in nature, like... Ermmm... Voter ID. Hell, well what do you know.

Johnson is still after his election because as it stands he's a passenger stuck in the runaway train of his own creation.

Talk of a deal breakthrough is still overstated too. The DUP and many of the usual ERG suspects have poured water on the idea. And many on the opposition benches are pushing hard on a confirmary ref being needed for a deal - they don't have the numbers yet, but talk is that they are close. We also have loyalist military making threats about an Irish Sea Border solution.

Time for Project Shit Meets Fan.

Awful scenes at Bulgaria v England qualifier. After tragic events in Sofia before the game. Stadium announcement to tell crowd not to boo Raheem Sterling when he's in possession of the ball. Sometimes it's hard not to despair of the human race. SadAngry

Hasenstein

Yes, sorry, I don't think I expressed myself well there.
I think Priti Patel is nasty because of the policies she espouses (and seems to personally wholeheartedly believe in) re 'forriners'.

She does often appear to sneer but I DO appreciate that can be a defensive reflex as my Dd does this / can have a particular 'look' which is not necessarily what is authentically happening 'inside' for her.

Apparently, flouncy, the second step in the protocol (first being an announcement) is a pause in the game. The third being abandonment. Sad Nearly half time so don't know if that will make any difference.

Dh, dd and I just speculating what happens result wise if they abandon.

Sterling just scored making it 4-0 for what it's worth.

Updates from the Guardian live blog of the Englans match:

20:37

Half time: Bulgaria 0-4 England
That’s the end of a surreal, dispiriting 45 minutes. England played well and scored four excellent goals, but the match was stopped twice because of racist abuse. One more stoppage and it should be abandoned, although I wouldn’t rule out it being called off during the interval.

4m ago 20:34

GOAL! Bulgaria 0-4 England (Sterling 45+4)
Eat that, you racist tossers. Harry Kane, the assist king, gives an open goal to Raheem Sterling at the end of another nice team move.

Hopes fade for Brexit deal at summit as EU needs ‘more time’
Renewed threat from cross-party ‘rebel alliance’ pushing for second referendum

Remember in order to deal we need to pass legislation. Its almost too tight if a deal is reached at the summit. If it isn't and comes later, that's an issue...

... That Saturday session might yet be pointless.

Call me naive but I always hope football, and other sport, can be a healthy release for tribal/national tensions, where people shake hands at the end of the game after a fair match. But, plenty of people aren't interested in that, shall we say.

Many other sports do : Cricket and Rugby succeed in having mixed crowds and removing racism and homophobia

but football has a poisonous atmosphere worldwide

NHS hospital books hotel rooms for cancer patients under Brexit plans

An NHS hospital has booked hotel rooms for cancer patient as part of contingency plans for Brexit.

Maidstone Hospital has taken the steps in case of severe traffic congestion in Kent, under a “worst case scenario”.

The trust running the site said it had booked “a small number of hotel rooms” to ensure patients could still be treated, in the event of problems on the key routes to the Channel ports.

A report to the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells trust board, reveals the contingency plans for those in need of essential treatment, such as cancer patients.

Patients and medical supplies could also be airlifted into the hospital by helicopter, under the measures. Maidstone is close to the M20, one of the key routes to the Channel ports.

A spokeswoman for the trust said a small number of hotel rooms had been booked “as a precautionary measure, to ensure we can continue to treat those patients requiring daily treatment”.

New lunacy.

Can I ask what happens if BoJo goes against the Benn act - and do we know how he is going to do it? What are the timelines? :(

tobee · 14/10/2019 20:59

I think we'd all like a crystal ball on that Fields

Nope. Still going on. For now unless the fans start up again.
Apparently not just boos and not just at Sterling either, he's been the main focus.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 14/10/2019 21:09

I don't follow football at all so am lost as to why stuff is happening. Is there history between England and Bulgaria. What's with the racism? Appalling.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/10/2019 21:10

Cries of "monkey" even when it's an England black player on the ball.
