Big week ahead.

Johnson has until Tuesday Afternoon to get his shit together for the EU.

He thinks it can be down, but still lots to do in that time.

This week we have the Queen's Speech too, which is going to be misused as a party political broadcast.

Remember if the government can't pass the QS, there's a crisis that gets generated as a direct result. Sticking in proposals that any liberal or leftie will struggle with, is deliberately provoking a crisis of that nature. A proposal of that type would have to be anti democratic in nature, like... Ermmm... Voter ID. Hell, well what do you know.

Johnson is still after his election because as it stands he's a passenger stuck in the runaway train of his own creation.

Talk of a deal breakthrough is still overstated too. The DUP and many of the usual ERG suspects have poured water on the idea. And many on the opposition benches are pushing hard on a confirmary ref being needed for a deal - they don't have the numbers yet, but talk is that they are close. We also have loyalist military making threats about an Irish Sea Border solution.

Time for Project Shit Meets Fan.

That's scandalous, Mother. I'm actually disgusted.

And, I'll say it again, there isn't going to be a deal from BoZo's plans. The only deal available for Sat is the WA.

It was totally disrespectful to him personally, to his party, his constituents and yes, probably to Scotland too.

I can't begin to understand Priti Patel. I try not to judge a person by their facial expression (I have an ASD Dd who looks very like Greta Thunberg) but PP does appear to be sneering at times

Which prompted Andrew Marr on TV yesterday to say "I don't know what you're laughing at"! As a kid, I used to have a reflex giggle when stressed or challenged and this is exactly what my dad used to bark at me.

What's Cunning Plan Omega ?
(I think we've reached "Omega" now)

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-deal-boris-johnson-eu-summit-leave-latest-a9155716.html

EU leaders have told Boris Johnsonn^ there is no way to strike a Brexitt^ agreement before this week's summit,
destroying his hopes of presenting a deal to parliament at a special sitting on Saturday.

Finland's Prime Minister Antti Rinne, whose government currently holds the rotating EU presidency,
warned there was no "practical or legal way" to find an agreement before Thursday's meeting of EU leaders in Brussels

Absolutely awful - how much does Scotland really matter? Not a jot.

About the same as NI and Wales ??

Priti Patel is pretty nasty when she speaks & writes - it's the real Priti:
e.g.
Patel back in December advocated "starving out" the Irish

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-ireland-food-shortages-threat-risk-priti-patel-negotiate-better-deal-a8672326.html

Britain should use the potential damage to the Irish economy,
including possible food shortages,
to secure a better Brexit deal from the EU

The fastest and possibly the best way forward would be to just sign ut to the WA as it is already 'work in progress' across all 28 countries and would therefore be easiest to get ratified by all. Of course the PD needs work too but at least minds have something to focus on.
rewriting a WA (with some form of PD) would take a couple of years to be comprehensive enough to get any form of recognition by all parties.
There will always be a deal of some sort whatever anyone says, there HAS to be to establish the legal positions of anyone or any goods, literally everything that travels out of the UK to any part of Europe in any shape or form.

At this moment in time Remain-voting London seems to matter little, too. Just the rural Brexit-voting shires and a few crocodile tears over places like Sunderland, which no Tory would actually ever care about but thinks there might be a few Leave voters gullible enough to vote for them.

Timeywimey10 · 14/10/2019 19:13

Priti Patel is pretty nasty yes Johnson has surrounded himself with some really horrible people.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 14/10/2019 19:14

What did I miss with Blackford? I'm recording things but not watching yet as rounding up the dc for showers and bed.

The CTA is basically a gentleman's agreement Hmm. Emma D'Souza wrote an article for Medium a while back and the implication is that those born in RoI living in the UK should apply for settled status in order to access your EU rights as the CTA is nowhere near as good.

MockersthefeMANist · 14/10/2019 19:16

It used to be the Lib leader who got the walkout treatment at big set-pieces. Now the SNP are the third party it is their turn. It is just one of the ways mother of parliaments works.

Anyways, just in case anyone needed another reason to despise this arsewipe govt, we're now boycotting most EU meetings, but we turned up at one today to vote down an arms embargo on Turkey.

Also love Corbyn's list of human-rights abusing countries now with added Ecuador, but still missing Venezuela and Cuba.

PMK with new kitten musing on the rights of UK citizens in the EU.
Prior resident cat seriously miffed, can't think how she resists the cuteness...

Dmitry Grozoubinski@DmitryOpines

I appreciate the efforts of showrunners for House of Cards, Succession, and Game of Thrones to present us with selfish amoral monsters by contrast to who our real leaders look measured, civic minded, and sensible.

It's not working at all, but full marks for effort.

ListeningQuietly · 14/10/2019 20:06

Auld
That is a super cute kitten. I'll be getting another new cat next month and you have nearly convinced me that a kitten would work.

ListeningQuietly · 14/10/2019 20:07

I'm not a fan of Corbyn but I thought his demolition of the Queen's speech was fab

shame the MP speaking to Jon Snow on C4 news so badly out of her depth about when an election should be called

cherin · 14/10/2019 20:08

I haven’t managed to watch anything about this queen speech today, but feel quite confident that it’s all fluff and nothing will ever come to pass - a) because he’s not going to be in government much longer b) cause the money to do whatever he’s promised today doesn’t exist and will not exist in the coffers if the economy nosedive. All form and no substance.
In response to cat, I’m afraid there are some facial expressions and a certain nose shape of Bj that remind me a lot of a departed grandpa. I’d rather see a testicle than my grandpa, when he talk, it’s really quite unsettling!!!
(Grandpa was a cunning businessman but not a liar and most definitely neither criminal nor narcissist. If anything, he was a very hard worker and devoted to his family. Having his memory tainted by this reassemblance is disgusting)

On a positive note- I found on sale plugs of the winter vegetables I totally forgot to plant in the allotment. Not that 10 Savoy cabbages or 25 leeks will feed a teenager (and his smaller brother) but it’s better than a big plot with only onions and garlic?

I just cannot stomach watching HM wafting about in clothes that probably cost more than my car, with all the pointless pomp and added security costs...for what??
To hear a PPB for bluekip the tories?
I note, however, that red is the colour of catholic martyrs...
Interesting choice from a woman who cannot make a statement any other way...
