Westminstenders: The Slow No

Have to make this quick.

Johnson has made an 'offer' to the EU. Let's stress this isn't a deal because they haven't agreed.

The EU have made kind noises about it but will say no thanks.

The UK are expecting this, and despite what's been said apparently are expecting more negotiation on this.

The DUP and the ERG seem to be on board with the proposal meaning in theory Johnson might have numbers to get through parliament. Except its not a deal so this is currently meaningless.

Parliament is prorogued again from next week with the Queen's Speech the following week.

Thanks Red.

While I welcome even late attempts at justice, I worry about the timing of this.

Owlsintowels · 03/10/2019 07:43

Thanks for the never ending stream of updates red!
I rarely post or pmk, but I read almost all the threads. Many others will be like me. You're helping inform a large group of women who might otherwise be stuck with msm propaganda

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/10/2019 07:45

Thank you @RedToothBrush
Is Parliament definitely prorogue gets next week? ( sorry have been out of the loop. Hope the Queen says no. Naff ‘orf

IDontBelieveYou · 03/10/2019 07:47

I feel like things are bleaker than ever now.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 03/10/2019 07:49

Morning. Another cold, frosty, and bright day here. I wonder what the day will bring.

falcon5 · 03/10/2019 07:51

I know in all the excitement that the Bill on rate relief for public toilets seems like a really trivial.thing but it got knocked off track by previous proroguing and if it doesn't go through it really scuppers groups attempts to take over small rural toilets that the main borough council's no longer fund.

Peregrina · 03/10/2019 07:54

I hope they have a VoNC before Johnson can scupper things by Proroguing again. Failing that, I hope they fail to pass the Queen's speech. Even with the DUP and ERG, I would hope that their still aren't the numbers for Johnson to get away with his tricks.

Peregrina · 03/10/2019 07:58

there not their, before the spelling police come for me!

Thanks for the new thread.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/10/2019 07:59

So we have today and Monday for some sort of parliamentary miracle?

verticality · 03/10/2019 08:01

I just wanted to repost that link that @BigChocFrenzy put at the end of the last thread because it's interesting:

I think the point that the spatial distribution of data is critical is a really good one. It highlights the fact that Remainers need to vote very, very tactically - and yes, that might mean voting for a party you're uncomfortable with on other levels. However, I'm suspicious of the fact that this guy has made the Lib Dems' vote share larger than that of Labour "to piss people off". Why? Very few polls suggest that is the state of play. It seems like the type of thing you'd do to make a point look stronger than it actually is. But I'm not enough of a statistician to be sure. Can anyone shed light?

IrenetheQuaint · 03/10/2019 08:02

I don't see any sign of a parliamentary miracle, alas. I think the Benn Act sets the 21st as the deadline for asking for an extension if no deal agreed, is that right?

One ultra-relaxed cat who likes to lie upside down Confused

Barclay has just been trying to defend the proposals on BBC Breakfast, saying that they are "serious" proposals and recognised by the EU as such ( what, there was the possibility that the UK might have put forward proposals that aren't serious? don't answer that )

They might be serious proposals - but they are not realistic, both in time frames for the technology (doesn't exist yet) and the burden on businesses as well as the effective and ongoing veto it gives to the DUP. The EU will always be diplomatic (although at times you can see that it is through gritted teeth) though, so they will take their time to review it and then politely tear it to shreds.

Peregrina · 03/10/2019 08:13

I would love to see the public wake up and vote that sorry crowd (pictured) out.

BigChocFrenzy · 03/10/2019 08:16

Thanks, red 💐

Even with the ERG and DUP on board, I thought this ridiculous proposal - NOT a deal - would also be well short of an HoC majority

However, even if the HoC were perverse enugh to pass it, it makes no difference when the EU never would - totally unacpetable to both the E27 heads of govt and the EP

So, it would just be about the Tories ramping up the blame game against the EU
