Exactly that.

To the average Joe on the street, they may not have thought it may affect their job.
Even for those who trade daily with the EU
Remainers seem to be constantly poo pooed.
Its been said on these threads before that Leavers would rather leave with No Deal and still brazenly say that this is what they wanted all along, rather than admit that belonging to the EU never really crossed their mind on a daily basis. Or that they were lied to.

The UK has been divided since the Referendum in 2016. Personally, I've been gutted. I had a fellow parent the day after tell me he was 'Buzzing' at the result. I'm sorry to say I think his reasons were misguided.

My own personal experience may be biased, but I give talks to schools. And I have nothing to gain from this.
Most people agree that bees need to be saved. The EU have played a crucial role in banning neoincotinoid pesticides from being used. The UK will overturn this rule and let farmers use whatever they like. This is a massive deal. This will kill bees. And it will happen overnight. Not to mention other things like the Domestic abusive bill being abandoned.

I'm keen to know why anyone would post union Jack flags and just claim that they want their country back. Aside from racial elements. I really want to know what people seriously think we can gain from this total shit storm.

I've had to hide a couple more people on SM because of the utter nonsense they're posting which Is BARELY not plain racism/bigotry

I don't feel I can unfriend as these are people I have known a very long time and are part of a group of friends who's friendship I wouldn't want to lose and if I unfriended it would create a major shit storm! Not something I can cope with at the moment

It's the self sabotage I don't understand.

Voting leave when it directly negatively affects them!

Leave voters I know include people who regularly have to travel to and from Europe for work, who work for European companies at branches in the U.K. (And having voted leave are now with bewilderment worried about their jobs!), who have loved ones that are British living in the eu, who are sick/disabled and dependent on medicines and medical equipment.

It utterly baffles me - literally one post of theirs on SM pro brexit and the next one bemoaning something that is a direct effect of it! Bonkers!

Well, I'm a Dutch who grew up here so I have settled status and could get a passport now and in a bit of a privileged position in not having to lose my Dutch citizenship (provided I renew it on time). But the thing is, I don't want to get a British passport despite the fact I speak English better than I speak Dutch. Since 2016, I frankly have not felt I'm British anymore even though I've been here since I was 6.

Shame, I was going to train for the English and Welsh Bar and practise here but I'm not sure if I want to anymore.

I also have a disability that gives me a lot of pain so my next 2 prescriptions of co-codamol and naproxen will probably the ones I'll have to stretch to last whilst there are shortages.

Oh and my non EU husband's presettled status application is been taking more than a month so he may have to leave the country seeing as he has nothing but a EU Family Permit to prove his status here. That won't exist anymore and it'll be worthless (if there isn't a deal/extension/revocation). Not particularly wealthy enough to move to NL as of yet and restart my life again and having to spend thousands of euros to bring him into NL. Hmm

Bees will not be affected.
You are quite wrong to say that the UK government will "let farmers use what they want". They have repeatedly said that they will continue to ban neonics even if the EU do not extend the ban.
You are just spreading lies.
Stop.

Cittadina · 19/09/2019 05:45

@Coppersulphate the same "they" also said that Brexit was going to be easy, that citizens' rights were going to be protected and one of the big "they" (you know, the blond one who can't finish his sentences) has just uttered on camera and in front of the press that "there was no press". So two points: 1. Do you still believe "them" and 2. Who is spreading lies, then?

bellinisurge · 19/09/2019 06:15

Op, only an idiot would think this is a Left/Right, North/South, Rich/poor , Old/young thing. If only it was that fucking easy.

LoreleiRock · 19/09/2019 06:15

I may never live in the U.K. again.

Angryresister · 25/09/2019 08:56

Sadly for those of us living in the EU, we have never been so anxious depressed or angry that some people want to remove the rights of others. Specifically pensioners are being told various versions of when we are going to lose our healthcare which is currently covered. Most of us cannot afford private health care, which we would not be able to access if we have chronic conditions. Free movement is a boon , especially to young people and working people. To take that away will affect all of us in one way or another. No one has been able to come up with reasons why Brexit will be advantageous for anyone except the hedge fund managers and those who wish to hide their money from taxes.

whyamidoingthis · 25/09/2019 10:50

You are quite wrong to say that the UK government will "let farmers use what they want".

Perhaps. But one of the pieces of nonsense wrt the NI/Ireland border spouted by the UK was a selective approach to all-Ireland agri-food alignment. Specifically, they do not want to comply with labelling rules which oblige food producers to label ingredients, additives, allergens and so on. This suggests a plan to lower standards.

smemorata · 25/09/2019 14:45

@Angryresister I agree and I have been so upset by some of the comments made about Brits abroad over this. I have been told that we should all fuck off, that we are traitors, we don't deserve anything. It is so awful. I always felt proud to be British but not anymore.

tooyoungat40 · 27/09/2019 15:53

Have had to apply for permanent residency in EU country where we have lived for 10 years. DH's work should take us away from this country for 2 years at a time but if we leave for more than 12 months after Brexit we lose our rights to permanent residency when we come back. This is our home and the only home the children know. So now husband's career prospects (niche) are effected.

Angryresister · 28/09/2019 08:26

Partner now desperately depressed and tearful. Why do people think it's ok to take others rights away? Our pensions are worth less every month, unable to sell the house when no one wants to buy . We will be applying for citizenship here as we meet the residence requirements but as we no longer have a vote in UK to overturn this nonsense , will throw ourselves on the mercy of the Spanish who are as bewildered as we are. We see parallels to nAzi Germany in the 30s in the UK ... Some will say this is extreme, but it seems that there is a push to remove anyone who is foreign, old ,disabled , ill or who have inconvenient views...some here are actually talking about suicide . SPanish people here are also desperately worried for their relatives in the UK whose future is so uncertain. And yes it will affect everyone negatively. It already has

Angryresister · 28/09/2019 08:29

smemorata thank you, but so sorry you are getting this too. Must be awful for those in UK who are getting so much racism and hatred. But the amount of this directed at us is unbelievable.

Mistigri · 28/09/2019 08:40

I am still trying to sort out our affairs before the end of October (even though my view remains that a no-deal Brexit on 31/10 is very unlikely).

We live in France. Husband seriously ill, hospitalised for 6 of the last 10 months. Have had to send his passport off for renewal as a priority, in the hope that he is well enough to apply for residency or that I can do the forthcoming online process on his behalf. No idea how long passports are taking at the moment. He can't apply for residency until we get it back as they need an original document.

And in the middle of all this, no one can assure me that on 31/10 his health insurance will continue to pay for his healthcare (he is not an S1 holder. His access to healthcare theoretically requires valid immigration documents).

Peregrina · 28/09/2019 08:43

Sorry to hear all that Mistigri.

I get angrier and angrier the more I hear of the ill-effects of Brexit.

tooyoungat40 · 28/09/2019 09:04

And like Angryresister a large wodge of our pensions are UK based and are decreasing in value against our 'home' currency with all this shit.

Mistigri · 28/09/2019 10:57

Thanks Peregrina.

At least I do not have to worry about income, because my salaried job is paid in euros and our small translation business mostly earns dollars. Of course we will lose out with regard to the small amount of U.K. pension we may or may not get one day (I worked for 16 years in the U.K. before moving to France, and DH for 20 years. It's DH who will lose out most as he was a relatively high earner in the U.K. as an NHS manager, and he has worked fewer years in France).
