Exactly that.

To the average Joe on the street, they may not have thought it may affect their job.
Even for those who trade daily with the EU
Remainers seem to be constantly poo pooed.
Its been said on these threads before that Leavers would rather leave with No Deal and still brazenly say that this is what they wanted all along, rather than admit that belonging to the EU never really crossed their mind on a daily basis. Or that they were lied to.

The UK has been divided since the Referendum in 2016. Personally, I've been gutted. I had a fellow parent the day after tell me he was 'Buzzing' at the result. I'm sorry to say I think his reasons were misguided.

My own personal experience may be biased, but I give talks to schools. And I have nothing to gain from this.
Most people agree that bees need to be saved. The EU have played a crucial role in banning neoincotinoid pesticides from being used. The UK will overturn this rule and let farmers use whatever they like. This is a massive deal. This will kill bees. And it will happen overnight. Not to mention other things like the Domestic abusive bill being abandoned.

I'm keen to know why anyone would post union Jack flags and just claim that they want their country back. Aside from racial elements. I really want to know what people seriously think we can gain from this total shit storm.

It risks leaving my seriously ill, hospitalised DH without medical insurance on 1st November.

Obviously I am thrilled about this.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 15/09/2019 20:04

No one knows how it will affect them.

Mistigri · 15/09/2019 20:07

Britons in the EU have a good idea. We don't know how some of the details will be applied but we do know we will lose many of the rights we have now.

Rodent01 · 15/09/2019 20:08

I’m 38 with secondary breast cancer, a 2 and 6 year old. I need the drugs keeping me alive to have an uninterrupted line into the country. Plus the isotopes used in a CT scan to check on progress made by the drugs.

For me the stakes are pretty bloody high. I want to stay alive and Brexit, especially no deal could seriously fuck it up.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/09/2019 20:08

Mistigri This is the thing. I think most people don't care because they think they won't be massively affected. Some don't know. And some don't have a fucking clue!

OP posts:
Mistigri · 15/09/2019 20:10

I think many of those people know perfectly well actually, but they also know that the truth is not politically palatable.

Mistigri · 15/09/2019 20:12

The very same people who are claiming that "it's impossible to know" what will happen after Brexit were confidently spouting crap about the Vienna convention 3 years ago. They can be very sure when they want to be.

snowbear66 · 15/09/2019 20:12

My mum has lived in France for 15 years, they built a house there but have not applied for citizenship.
She is very ill and requires white blood cells to be monitored.
It means that she might have no medical cover and be left without healthcare.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/09/2019 20:13

@ALoadOfTwaddle oh well, actually I think a lot of people suspect how it may affect them.
And even if you don't, take a look at the previous replies and hope to god you don't get cancer or diabetes or actually have to rely on the NHS

If you don't know if / how your house insurance works, do you just not bother with it?

OP posts:
NomDeQwerty · 15/09/2019 20:16

I won't be retiring to Crete.

Bearbehind · 15/09/2019 20:16

No one knows how it will affect them.

That’s a bit like saying ‘no one knows what life has in store’

They don’t exactly but it doesn’t take a genius to analyse the facts and and make an educated guess.

LoueyLou · 15/09/2019 20:16

My projects at work are EU funded, I’ve got a pretty good idea what’ll happen to them. I really can’t see Boris and co replacing the money to keep it running.
DH job may be relocated or scrapped, depends how it goes and if lorries are able to get through, and if it’s financially viable for his company to operate in the UK anymore. Despite being high up he’s had no further clarity than that.

I live in Spain am married to a Spaniard and have 2 kids who were born here and speak far more Spanish than they do English. I have a mortgage, I run a business. Thanks to Brexit, I've applied for Spanish citizenship. I can't be a dual national so I will have to renounce British citizenship (although at this stage, I don't really care). There's a massive backlog of applications so, although I applied in Jan 2017, I'm still waiting.
I'm not sure what my rights will be if there is no deal.
And I consider myself very lucky that that's "all" I have to worry about.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/09/2019 20:20

@Rodent01

Huge hugs. It's the likes of you I'm thinking of. I talked about my issues. They are fairly small fry in comparison.

I believe the difference in this whole divide is

I don't care / don't know/ don't want to know

As opposed to

Oh my goodness, I didn't realise it affected people who had cancer etc. Heaven help me and I hope this doesn't happen to me. In the meantime, are you ok? / can I help? / are there any petitions I can sign (And why might the NHS be failing you?)

OP posts:
NeverTwerkNaked · 15/09/2019 20:21

I already can't get hold of my children's epipens easily. Brexit will compound this. I am worried I simply won't be able to save their lives if they have a reaction and all I will be able to do is watch them die. It is an awful powerless feeling.

user1471453601 · 15/09/2019 20:24

This is thing about Leave. Nobody (including the politicians and journalists) actually know how leave will affect us. The remaimerss knew for sure what remain in would look like (the status quo), the leavers has I idea what that would look like.

So, in a sensible and rational world, the terms of "leave" would be the subject of second referendum .

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/09/2019 20:25

I honestly think it's time for people to hear the human side.
I'm sick of being called a remoaner.
I want people to be taken seriously
Those with cancer. Those with partners who aren't British. It may threaten their families / lives.
NI / Ireland - most Brexiteers don't give a shit.

I've always said, you should not vote for yourself. But for humankind.

user1471453601 · 15/09/2019 20:27

Oh, that's right. I no longer live in sensible and rational country

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/09/2019 20:34

It's time to stop the hardship people are experiencing being branded as project fear.
Even after Yellowhammer, the hard right will not be dissuaded.
This is real. It's happening already even before a No Deal Brexit.
How on earth do you make people realise that this was all a conspiracy, the absolute worst of deception. Corrupt, which unfortunately led to even more corruption. Politics has always thrived on deception. Propaganda is only seen by those who see the truth.

OP posts:
Rodent01 · 15/09/2019 20:36

Thanks for the positive and kind thoughts.

To anybody who thinks it’s scaremongering, my oncologist (the lead oncology consultant at a mainstream London NHS hospital) has specifically said isotopes will be screwed by no deal as they will all have to come by ferry.

So Brexit can go screw itself.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/09/2019 20:37

Seen through that should read

And look up political history. For those who haven't. And please open your eyes.

OP posts:
Leapyearlover · 15/09/2019 20:40

It has affected me so far insomuch as I have applied for citizenship of the country where I live. It won't come through before Brexit happens (if it happens in October) and I don't know what the exact consequences of that will be. I have been on a hospital waiting list for the last 18 months for an operation and I am almost at the top. I hope I will still have the right to health care when I get there! I travel around the EU for work and I am expecting that to get harder (and probably the best projects will be given to other colleagues instead!)

Leapyearlover · 15/09/2019 20:41

Sorry - should point out I am in another EU country, not Britain.

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/09/2019 20:45

@Rodent01 you have my complete and utter attention.
Perhaps some people haven't dealt with cancer before. Maybe their privileged lives haven't been touched by it. It is real. And none of us know who may be next.

Maybe my post should have said " Isotopes, who gives a shit?" Maybe that would make people's ears prick up?
(Nope, because not many people actually know about cancer unless they have suffered from it. Heaven help the Brexiteers if they ever get it. Do they even know what isotopes are?)
Sad times.
But much love and strength to you.
Thinking about you a lot x
