All day I've seen nothing but comments and tweets about he Johnson is in trouble and he's losing it.

They are wrong. He's far from done.

Take a step through the Looking Glass and the world looks different.

Those tweeting and reporting all care about events and are following closely. They are unrepresentative of the population as a whole who don't give two shiny shits.

And so we have the Trump dynamic.

The Liberal elite of broadcasters and journalists who are only seeing through the lens of their own judgement, not from the repackaged marketing.

Instead they are unwittingly publishing the images and slogans in the format Johnson wants and enter the minds of the public as planned.

The media are out of step with perceptions. And that's worrying. They don't see what's coming.

Johnson will have an election at some point. With the Tory party cleansed of moderates it is the Brexit Party one way or another, whether it be by takeover or coalition. And its riding high in the polling.

Even though even his brother has abandoned him, the future looks positive for Johnson as his opponents have a complete lack of self awareness and no understanding of the opposition they are taking on; they are campaigning in a way that plays into the hands of Johnson.

Despite his lack of majority and apparently absence of plan or speech notes, the biggest mistake you can make now is to write off Johnson.

You do so at your own peril.

Pay close attention to how authoritarians work and what's already happened in the US. We are on course to repeat it.

As a small business owner, I would be LOOKING FORWARD to more redistribution from the VERY RICH towards the not so well off.

Because I need customers and those customers aren’t going to come and see me if they have no money.
As there any more lower or average earners than the rich or very rich, I’d rather see the people in lower end and middle of the spectrum having more money so they can buy from me.

The issue for me is ‘what do you call RICH?’ The professional who earn £50k a year, can go away twice a year on holiday but still has a very average house? Or the one who is earning well into 6 figure, has a house worth more than 1.5 millions, send their 3 dcs to a top end private's school and has 3 long haul holiday a year whilst saving money for their dcs trust fund?

Thanks Red Flowers Sadly I agree with you, most people aren't following things as closely as us.

A local school has sent parents letters saying EU students need settled status by 31st October to stay in free education. Local fb page is horrified. I think it'll be on the locals news paper website this afternoon so will link then.

Am both frightened and angry.

NoWordForFluffy · 06/09/2019 08:36

I think I'm just going to nod along with Mistigri today. I should be working really. I keep forcing myself to step away so I actually get some work done, but it's difficult (and Fridays contain a general lack of motivation anyway!).

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/09/2019 08:36

BJ won’t want to be sharing the limelight with Cummings for too long. He is useful now as an attack dog and to soak up some of the negative feelings that would otherwise be directed at BJ.

He will be unceremoniously booted out as a scapegoat as and when needed.

Can anyone comment on how after a WA and transition period, we won't end up with a right wing authoritarian government? I think we're fucked.

Meanwhile at Balmoral The Queen instructs the housekeeper to prepare one of the small bedrooms at the back without a view and the Duke of Edinburgh is seen taking to the hills for a very long hike.

Flouncy
I don’t think he will last that long. His postponed surgery will become urgent.

Just listened to Emily Thornberry on Today. I think I understand Labour's (or at least her position) but that's not good enough.
I think she's in favour of a second referendum but I'm not sure.

She was on QT last night and explained her position in more detail which was quite bonkers. Yes she wants a second ref, she wants to remain. She says if Labour win a GE, she will go to Brussels and negotiate a better deal than the Tories have, then put that deal to a second referendum in which she would then campaign against the deal she has just negotiated.
Many moderate leavers don’t necessarily mind a second ref, they’ll just vote leave again, but I don’t think it makes sense to anybody to be sending someone to negotiate a deal they don’t want. This will not win votes from leavers, and Labour need those to win.

Could we not use unpleasant nicknames for people no matter how much we may dislike them.

Greenpeacefriendforlife · 06/09/2019 08:45

I agree entirely. The fact that Jo Johnson abandoned his brother in such a cruel way will encourage people to see Boris as someone fighting for the country against all odds.
To be fair he really is putting himself (and family on the line)
A large percentage of people are terrified of Corbyn and his 70s hard left Marxism, and can’t vote for anyone else but Boris regardless of Brexit, this cross section of society are being significantly underestimated.

Peregrina · 06/09/2019 08:46

Not necessary, he and his girlfriend are now only going for dinner because he needs to be back in London to keep an eye on events.

I wonder what her Madge really thinks - pleased that she doesn't have to be too hospitable but annoyed that she's been dragged into this?

NoWordForFluffy · 06/09/2019 08:50

I agree entirely. The fact that Jo Johnson abandoned his brother in such a cruel way will encourage people to see Boris as someone fighting for the country against all odds.

That's way too emotive. Cruel?! Jo is a known remainer. Maybe he hadn't realised the route his brother was going to go down. Of course he had to step aside.

Are the 21 rebels 'cruel' or simply voting / acting with their consciences? Jo is no different to them (other than his blood tie, and we all know that you can't choose your relatives!).

Luciana Berger does not value the spirit, culture or people of Liverpool.

This is why she's just as happy to parachute herself out of this great city, as she was parachuting herself in.

It's time for a new MP for Wavertree and this time we need a socialist.

WorriedMutha · 06/09/2019 08:54

I hope there’s extensive tactical voting in the coming GE and a cooperative alliance between remain parties. I saw a link to a Belfast Telegraph article saying Sinn Fein would work with other republican parties where they would be better placed to defeat the DUP. Crucially they also take their seats at Westminster.
Thanks Red but I’m not as disheartened at the outlook as you. May was 20 points ahead when she called that election. Johnson has got off to a shocking start. I know half the electorate are asleep but the Rees Smug gaffes get traction and they are Tory own goals caused by their lack of awareness.
I guess I want Red to be wrong but I’m sure we can agree it’s all very unpredictable.

Three texts in Ferrari's inbox:

Mike: “Boris's gone way up in my estimation, sticking up for the people.”

Alan: “Major’s speech is laughable. They didn’t listen, they’ve ridden roughshod over the public for years.”

Lynn on Jo Johnson: "If you can’t be loyal then shut up."

And there you have it.

US Vice President, Mike Pence: “The President told me today that when Brexit is complete we will begin negotiations for a free-trade agreement, right-away. Our message is clear: the minute the UK is out, the US is in.”

And I’m sure Trump won’t screw us over at all.

Shit.

Greenpeacefriendforlife · 06/09/2019 08:57

The new world order is becoming much much clearer now.

The liberal hold that aren’t so liberal after all, are being prised our. The days of big business in flagrant government collusion are going to be over. Direct democracy, greater controls and a celebration of national identity seem to be surfacing.
Make no mistake, parliament may look like it’s all going to plan and the result can be ignored/ changed/revoked but experience and history tells us that this is unlikely to hold for long. There is no plan or point to the extension. So you extend another three months, what then? Many many of us are horrified to see the lengths some will sink to in the commons bloodbath those both sides of Brexit.

Regal Cat On Couch Smile

I agree with Red's OP Sad

BJ-Cummings' antics aren't aimed at us; their purpose is to produce packaged, targeted sound bites/pictures/impressions of strength and action in the minds of Leavers, Hard Core Right Wingers, English nationalists, those who are fed up with "too much political debate" and just want "No Deal" to get it over (and don't understand that it won't be), those that think (and they do exist Confused) that No Deal equals the status quo and those who have suffered under Austerity and have bought that line that the EU is responsible SadConfused And they will work.

The major unknown is how likely those in those last 3 groups will be to vote. Depending on why they are disillusioned, they may not turn out. Which in itself is not good for democracy Sad

The Brexit Shitshow is not good for my weight SadWineCakeGinBlush
