Does anyone here actively WANT no deal?

And if so why, and how do you expect it to play out if that's the outcome?

@alsohuman was your granny from Norfolk by any chance?

Peregrina · 04/09/2019 15:39

Take away Brexit, and it will be fine.

Sadly, I don't think so. A lot of damage must have been done to our EU relationships.

Those who voted for Brexit because they were sick of austerity, will still be facing austerity even though Sajid Javid said that this was over. This won't be believed until people have more money in their pockets and are not desperately trying to make ends meet.

Those EU citizens who have gone because they were made to feel unwelcome won't just turn round and come straight back. The racism and xenophobia unleashed won't quickly be forgotten.

So although taking away Brexit would be welcome, there will still be a lot of work to do.

Topseyt · 04/09/2019 15:42

I don't want Brexshit at all.

I certainly don't want no deal.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/09/2019 15:45

Only a handful of people want it and it’s done to appease a fraction of the electorate, it is avoidable yet we seem to be heading towards it.

It’s like a Greek Drama, only with Twitter instead of the chorus.

Bloomburger · 04/09/2019 15:54

I don't want no deal but think it's should be kept on the table or you've no bargaining power because for all their posturing the EU sure as shit doesn't want no deal.

Peregrina · 04/09/2019 15:55

It makes me think of the programme about the Nazis a couple of nights ago. Again it was only wanted by a few. They didn't realise that their country would be devastated by war, then divided for 45 years with millions killed and the horrors of the concentration camps.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/09/2019 15:59

I didn’t want to bring up the Nazis, Godwin’s law and all that.

What makes you think that? I can't see them being affected very much whatever deal we do or don't get, personally.

Autumnintheair · 04/09/2019 16:05

I don't know why people keep saying it's an embarrassment.. To whom?
America... Are they not embarrassed enough with trump?
To France.. That has suffered demos and major major riots and violence since last November?
To Germany whose got a myriad of major issues including shrinking economy... To Italy? Again major issues...

Op I don't actively seek no deal, I'd much prefer a deal. But if it comes to risking a labour government turning over ref. Then no deal is better than no brexit.

I expect a few issues nothing major... I am more worried about un forseen issues... But overall its not going to be awful we will be fine.

Autumnintheair · 04/09/2019 16:06

Swiss kit on another thread someone took time to post list of some eu annomlies but if you search around you will find detailed posts from the the days when leavers innocently posted them

KennDodd · 04/09/2019 16:08

And how will the Irish border issue be resolved in this ever-so-fast deal we're going to get?

It will be 'resolved' by restarting of the 'troubles' and people being murdered again.

No deal means the whole thing drags on for another decade but the public seem unable to grasp that and think it draws a line under it and life goes back to how it was before. There was a YouGov poll a while ago and most people thought 'no deal' meant nothing changes.

KennDodd · 04/09/2019 16:12

Richard Tice, he's posed for no deal to crash the economy (with his help) so he can then cash in on the fire sale. He's said this in interviews.

KennDodd · 04/09/2019 16:15

I think when the stupid fucks who voted for this feel how shit it is there'll be a push toward English independence as the next thing.

MrPan · 04/09/2019 16:28

Lordy, 1973. People are actually saying this? It'll be alright.......despite the govt stocking up on body bags.

Cant you read?

MrPan · 04/09/2019 16:30

The EU countries don't wish a No Deal because they know it's stupidly damaging. To us all. But we are way to thick as a country to get that. It seems.

TeaForDad · 04/09/2019 16:32

Yes and I'll enjoy seeing that mostly things are fine.

EVERY step of this process, we've been told there will be catastrophic events if we have a vote/ vote leave/ etc but they don't happen.

InfiniteSheldon · 04/09/2019 16:33

Almost everyone i speak to in rl its only on here and Facebook that this remoaner nonsense holds sway

LatteLove · 04/09/2019 16:33

We import food, supplies and medication from around the world, not just the EU and we grow things in this country.

We aren’t self sufficient food wise and the stuff we import from elsewhere comes via trade deals with the EU as far as I understand it which is why we need to negotiate new ones.

I think no deal is an utter disaster, it was never up for consideration during the referendum campaign and to think that this could be the outcome is beyond ridiculous. It needs to be taken off the table once and for all. 17 million people don’t get to fuck over a nation of 65 million and an economy for decades in the name of “democracy”. It’s an act of political and economic suicide.

Do people really think “no deal” will bring an end to this shitstorm? We won’t even have seen the beginning yet.

onalongsabbatical · 04/09/2019 16:34

A NO DEAL STORY – remember no analogy is perfect.
You live rurally, bit cut off from all the nearest towns, so you source nearly everything via your local supermarket. You don’t like the layout, the prices, the uniforms the staff wear, lots of things get on your nerves about the place. Over the years you complain about this and that and they listen to some of your concerns and change things, but there’s always something else you can find to complain about. Maybe you (secretly) don’t like the fact that some of the checkout staff are – shhh – brown!

Eventually all of your objections get the better of you and you tell them you want a sweeping new arrangement or you’re going to shop SOMEWHERE ELSE and they’d better listen because THEY NEED YOUR MONEY MORE THAN YOU NEED THEM. You and the supermarket enter into lengthy negotiations but your demands get ever more strident and they do not budge on certain things.
So you decide you really don’t need them.

And without having anywhere else to shop, or understanding that actually wherever you shop you’re going to encounter things you don’t like and are going to have to put up with, or admitting to yourself that the next nearest supermarket or shopping complex is about a thousand times further away than your local one and is going to cost you in time and fuel way beyond anything you’re going to save, plus it’s currently run by someone who many people view as, at best, volatile and unpredictable and distinctly out for himself, not you as a potential customer, without resolving or even admitting to any of this you get so angry that… you blow up the road that you drive along to get to the supermarket.

Delighted with your handiwork, it then takes you so long to get to your alternative shopping centre that you run out of fuel on the way and by the time you’ve sourced fuel and driven there they’re closed, and you bang on the door but they’re not opening for just you, why would they?
Sitting in your precious little car, your domain, your home turf, celebrating your great achievement, you starve.

What a long useless way to say you think all Brexit supporters are racist

Alsohuman · 04/09/2019 16:43

Where did you deduce she’s saying all Brexiteers are racist? It’s a good analogy.

Songsofexperience · 04/09/2019 16:47

I really honestly haven't met anyone in RL who is as panic stricken about it all as people on MN.

They're either uninformed or they don't tell you.

Chupchup · 04/09/2019 16:49

Bionicname - I know I am being pedantic but it's "that will teach them"You learn from others but you also teach to others

Pre-referendum, UK growth was near the top of the G7, it's now at the bottom, and we may already be in a recession. It's a slow-moving catastrophe, and we've not even actually left yet.
