Does anyone here actively WANT no deal?

And if so why, and how do you expect it to play out if that's the outcome?

OP posts:

No deal terrifies me, I rely on medicines and medical food/nutrition so “food shortages” for me possibly means starvation.

I can’t understand the people who are talking about food and medicine shortages as if it’s not a problem, it’s completely selfish to basically deny that some people will actually be in danger from this.

People are either naive or have it so good themselves that they don’t care about how everyone else will be affected.

BackInTime · 04/09/2019 14:55

My PIL do because food shortages would be a good thing for the obesity crisis and climate change. Apparently everyone should just buy seasonal produce from their local farmers market or farm shop Hmm

Marshmarigoldssss · 04/09/2019 14:56

Of course not.

Love how Span thinks food shortages are fine, and how it will be ok because we were fine pre 1973! Utterly deluded.

I think most people have no idea what no deal means - years and years of protracted trade negotiations but with no leverage.

And as to the food shortages - remember when KFC ran out of chicken - some people phoned 999. Don't think no deal Brexit is going to play out very well....

bellinisurge · 04/09/2019 14:57

Roll call of idiots who actively want no Deal. Who can of course name change when it all goes shit.
If we No Deal and it all goes beautifully, I pledge to come on here with the same username to say, I was wrong and there is egg on my face. That would be a fabulous outcome.
Do the numpties who actively want No Deal pledge to do the same if it goes shit?

GoodJobSteve · 04/09/2019 14:58

"No Deal" is a bit of a misnomer, anyway, certainly as deployed by Brexiteers in their 'Leaving the EU is very much like buying a new car' analogy.

"No Deal" is actually 'revoke A50, carry on as before'. Leaving in any manner is 'Deal' - we either do it in an orderly fashion, with transition period while the deal is completed, or a disorderly fashion, trading on WTO rules while the deal is completed.

Needless to say, we'll get a better deal following the 'orderly departure' route, as we won't have royally shafted the people we're trying to do the deal with.Shock

DoomsdayCult · 04/09/2019 14:58

We managed until 1973 without being members
But not without deals. We had numerous trade deals and treaties before we joined the EU. Leaving with no deal puts us....well back to the collapse of the Roman Empire really.

We import food, supplies and medication from around the world, not just the EU and we grow things in this country.

And how do we import these items from around the world? Via EU trade agreements which are only open to EU members. Once we leave, we have no deals with anyone in the world, not just the EU.
Yes, we grow locally but only 10% of the veg we need is local, 90% is imported. Looking at all food grown in the U.K. (grains, meat, dairy and veg) we can only produce enough for 1/3rd of the current population.

“Bionicname - I know I am being pedantic but it's "that will teach them".

“That’ll learn them” - sometimes spelled “That’ll larn ‘em” is a well known expression. I am sure, from the rest of her post that Bionicname’s grammar is excellent.

Herocomplex · 04/09/2019 15:01

It’s ok Alsohuman it’s just that your calc would make me over 60. Grin I completely agree with your statement though. The world was very different economically and politically before we joined the CM.

DoomsdayCult · 04/09/2019 15:02

No deal would be a disaster but, like JRM, my money is safely offshore because I think the house of muppets we have in Parliament are very capable of such a suicide pact.

Mamamia456 · 04/09/2019 15:06

BertrandRussell - It might well be an expression, but it's not grammatically correct.

It's the same when people ask if they can lend something from you, no you borrow from and lend to!

Skittlenommer · 04/09/2019 15:07

Yes, I want it to go hideously wrong so the Leavers have to eat their words!

BertrandRussell · 04/09/2019 15:08

“BertrandRussell - It might well be an expression, but it's not grammatically correct.”

No it’s not. But people using it know it isn’t.

Span1elsRock · 04/09/2019 15:11

Your opinions have absolutely nothing of value in them, you have no idea about what’s going to happen

But we are all entitled to our own opinions. I choose not to join the mass hysteria train of thought about it all. Worrying and stressing and negating other people's opinions won't change any course of action.

DoomsdayCult · 04/09/2019 15:15

I choose not to join the mass hysteria train of thought about it all.

I completely agree with this Span. There’s a lot of mass hysteria going on which just muddies the water and casts doubts on what will actually go wrong.

Bionicname · 04/09/2019 15:17

Given that we roughly have a 50/50 trade and import balance, you can't tell me that a trading agreement won't be rustled up pretty promptly from both sides.

This is the fundamental error that suggests we are on an equal footing with the EU in the negotiations.

Yes, the UK is highly dependent on the EU for both its imports and its exports.

However the EU is nowhere near as dependent on the UK because it is so much bigger. The UK accounts for about 8% of the (rest-)EU's global exports.

It's like amputating the right arm from a body - yes, the body will suffer and will be diminished. The prospect for the right arm is worse though.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/09/2019 15:23

Anything has got to be better than this shit show.

The current show, shitty though it certainly is, only happened b cause if Brexit.

Take away Brexit, and it will be fine.

So, revoke the shit show rather than commit economic suicide. Much better.

Mamamia456 · 04/09/2019 15:26

BertrandRussell - Do they? Not so sure about that, hear it quite a lot from the younger generation.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 04/09/2019 15:26

I would like to see a thread with only the posters who actively want No Deal Brexit.

No one else, just a yes to no deal. I strongly suspect it will be a dozen or so.

—and some sock puppets-/

MissGiddyPants · 04/09/2019 15:27

But we can't take away Brexit. The ball is rolling down the hill and I'm not sure anything can be done to stop it. Can it?

Bionicname · 04/09/2019 15:28

That'll learn me, Mamamia456! Wink

Alsohuman · 04/09/2019 15:29

My gran used to say “That’ll larn ‘em” in an ironic, knowing it’s incorrect grammar kind of way.

Herocomplex · 04/09/2019 15:29

You are entitled to your own opinions. Just don’t present them as facts.

Mamamia456 · 04/09/2019 15:30

Bionicname - Yes it will! 😁

Bionicname · 04/09/2019 15:31

...and thank you Bertrand Blush

Swisskit · 04/09/2019 15:34

Still haven't seen anyone telling us the benefits of leaving.

As far as I can see, the best anyone has offered us that we'll "manage". Hoo fucking rah. Something to look forward to then.
