And if so why, and how do you expect it to play out if that's the outcome?

Even Rees Mogg says it will take us 50 years to recover

Another regular remain misquote. What the right honorable Mr Jacob Rees-Mogg said was that it could take 50 years before UK realized the full benefit of leaving the EU.

Alsohuman · 07/09/2019 16:47

Yes that one.

Alsohuman · 07/09/2019 16:48

I haven’t got 50 years. A lot of us haven’t.

TeamUnicorn · 07/09/2019 16:50

Please explain how that is different?

Isn't it him who said we will all have the food we need?

TeamUnicorn · 07/09/2019 16:51

Stop looking at what is said and think about what isn't.

MysteryTripAgain · 07/09/2019 16:52

Don't think I have 50 years, but children and grandchildren have.

Brexit is an investment in the future. Not surprising that the younger generation think the older generation is selfish and had it easy with property boom and pensions

Alsohuman · 07/09/2019 16:52

Jesus wept.

Symptomless · 07/09/2019 16:54

What?

MeganBacon · 07/09/2019 17:06

It doesn't matter how often you put people right about JRM, they still think he said it would take 50 years to recover. He said "we may not know the full economic consequences or 50 years", which is very different.
He also did not move his money to Dublin.

MysteryTripAgain · 07/09/2019 17:22

they still think he said it would take 50 years to recover

I used to think Santa Claus was real, but he wasn't.

He also did not move his money to Dublin

Thought his company fund managers had opened an office in Dublin? His sovereign wealth fund operates globally even before referendum.

The correct form of address is

Mr Jacob Rees-Mogg

MeganBacon · 07/09/2019 17:39

They opened a fund in Dublin, yes this is part of operating globally. He did not move his money to Dublin.

LaurieMarlow · 07/09/2019 17:44

They opened a fund in Dublin, yes this is part of operating globally. He did not move his money to Dublin.

So he can channel profits through Dublin then. Effectively the same.

I expect his ‘own’ money (however you’re defining that in relation to money in his business) is widely diversified.

MysteryTripAgain · 07/09/2019 17:49

Corporation tax in Dublin is 12.5% compared to 19% in UK. So attractive to many companies regardless of brexit

Notonthestairs · 07/09/2019 18:05

SCM issued a statement that the Dublin office opening was due to Brexit related uncertainty - not corporation tax.

What do you make of Crispin Odey - largest Conservative backer - betting against British firms to the tune of £300 million?

MysteryTripAgain · 07/09/2019 18:29

Who or what is SCM?

Notonthestairs · 07/09/2019 18:41

The firm JRM works for.

bellinisurge · 07/09/2019 18:55

JRM likes to lounge on the benches when everyone else is giving a shit about what us going on. I'll call that twat what I like.

MysteryTripAgain · 07/09/2019 19:10

Brexit related uncertainty

No uncertainty if bad losers had not attempted to thwart the results

BertrandRussell · 07/09/2019 19:27

“The correct form of address is

Mr Jacob Rees-Mogg“

No it isn’t. Mr Rees-Mogg If you are talking to him- Jacob Rees-Mogg Esq. if you are writing about him.

TeamUnicorn · 07/09/2019 19:29

I would like to see the context of that photo, I mean I know it is bad, but the nearby benches look very empty and the two behind don't look particularly engaged either. Was it wine coffee break time?

Notonthestairs · 07/09/2019 19:32

Grin SCM opened the office in March 2018 - it would have taken months of planning and certainly long before the current chaos.

But obviously as a bad loser I am very sorry for any inconvenience suffered by JRM and his investors.

FantailsFly · 07/09/2019 19:52

To the poster who said they were sick of elected MPs ignoring the views of their constituents ... I live in a remain area but am ‘represented’ by a member of the ERG. But yes, I wish he would represent his constituents views.

lljkk · 07/09/2019 19:53

@TeamUnicorn,

I was watching live Parliament TV. JRM was lounging on the benches during Parliamentary debate about the No Deal motion. They call it 'debate' but really it's just individual MPs each saying their piece to contribute to vote decision. People who spoke while I watched included Liam Fox & Bernard Jenkin. Norman Lamb (I think) was looking on & some prominent remainers spoke, too (I forget who, possibly Soubry).

JRM was supine on the front bench the whole time. The chambre was mostly empty but people were about, waiting to say their piece. I guess everyone else was at dinner / in the bars. I wonder if JRM was required to be present as Leader of the House.

So that's context. I thought JRM looked surprisingly human & tired out. DH insists it was provocative "I'm bored with you" statement from JRM. An MP called JRM out on his inappropriate lounging position but JRM just blinked & didn't move.

cookingonwine · 07/09/2019 19:56

I don't want a deal ...

I would like to know how on earth is Boris going to negotiate now ...? It's crazy.

TeamUnicorn · 07/09/2019 19:58

Thank you. So not a great position to sit in, but by no means an absolutely awful act.

Reminds me of one of my old Sunday school teachers who used to go to sleep every week and then claim he had his eyes shut as he was praying.
