Westminstenders: Game On?

Johnson has had prorogation approved by the Queen.

There has been widespread outrage and horror both in the UK and in Europe. Johnson has ripped up the principle of Liberal democracy even if constitutionally what he has done is legal. In shredding convention and the 'gentlemans agreement' of understanding we teeter on the edge of democratic collapse.

Talk is tha Dominic Cummings is persuing a game theory principle of deliberately putting us on collision course with the EU. The idea being that they will blink first because the alternative of what will happen is just too awful for them to allow. The idea is to force others to make the moves whilst Johnson appears principled and strong, even without a proper strategy and plan for a deal.

And there is the rub. Despite all the Talk of no deal, at some point a deal MUST be made, regardless of whether its before or after 31st October. There is no sense of what that could be and how it could be done. And then there's the prospect of a US deal which suffers from the same lack of tangibility.

All there is, is how things look for a General Election. Nothing else.

Johnson is pitching for an election with no sense of what's needed for Brexit - including the legislation needed for no deal. Not to forget that Cummings, strategist that he is, apparently isn't here for the long haul, only being contracted until 31st October, when he goes for surgery he postponed to take on this job.

So what's the plan for Johnson Post Cummings? Or is he going to do even more 'winging it'.

Meanwhile there's an awful lot of moderate Tory MPs getting very nervous and already failing to stick to the Cummings script.

Johnson, until there is an election is going to firmly blow hot and cool, trying to play to the hopes and fears of leavers and remainers to keep them hanging on to hope and the notion that x or y will happen, when x and y can't possibly both happen because they are completely opposing strategies. Hope leads us blindly to stumble like fools into his trap and to win his reelection.

Next week looks very bumpy indeed. Chances are this thread won't make it past Saturday...

Ambrose is also a saint...while we are all confessing stuff, I quite like JRMs taste in DC names!

From the previous thread -

...it's difficult to see how Johnson can increase his support to the left, or why people who voted Labour in the last GE would switch their vote if they thought that would increase the likelihood of a Tory win.
If a piece of FB nonsense I saw recently entitled 'Obituary: The Sad Passing of Common Sense' is anything to go by, then I can see how Johnson is actively trying to increase his support to the Left. I suspect there are plenty of people on the left, particularly older voters, who might find this message very attractive.
orthodoxengland.org.uk/obitcs.htm
This ties in with the broadcast of articles on restraining students in schools. Also the notion that Brussels imposes nonsensical rules and regulations on a nation formerly known for its solid grasp of common sense.

If the next election is going to be about magic money trees for all, why assume Johnson is more likely to deliver than Corbyn?
Because the carefully crafted message that is already out there is that Jeremy Corbyn intends to spend your money on people who don't deserve it. People like the kids in schools who laugh in the faces of teachers, for instance, because we have abandoned common sense and must do what Brussels tells us instead of applying British boots to the lazy rear ends of the spawn of the undeserving...

Someone asked about Corbyn and the Queen.

Apparently only going to happen with Johnson's approval.

BigChoc thanks I need it. Brexit madness has made me crack. The black kitten is very cute! I'm now thinking about how hairy Gordon Brown is, and whether he's as strokable as the kitten.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 29/08/2019 23:33

I don't get why Blowjo has to agree?

I don't get why Blowjo has to agree
He's posh, the queens posh. Only posh people get to decide our fate.

BigChocFrenzy · 29/08/2019 23:37

I admit, I thought the Queen had to see the Leader of the Opposition if he requested it

I'd no idea the PM controls the monarch's visitors' list Hmm

Marking my place with this article about Brits in Spain who are hoping for no deal. www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2019/08/28/meet-the-pro-brexit-british-expats-in-spain-who-are-willing-to-see-a-no-deal-uk-divorce/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=olive%20press#utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss which is, well.... What can I say?

KLAXON !

Senior DUP sources suggesting they have been advised by senior Conservatives that they intend to call an election in November.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 29/08/2019 23:59

I can’t believe I missed all the filth on the last thread.

November election? Just after a no deal?

tobee · 30/08/2019 00:04

I saw that headline about Corbyn and HMQ. It struck me as made up crap by the Express but maybe I'm wrong?

tobee · 30/08/2019 00:05

Looks like you're spot on with your prediction BCF

tobee · 30/08/2019 00:08

Johnson and the government (sounds like a bad jazz band) are the opposite of Meatloaf

Grinchly · 30/08/2019 00:09

Can we stop with the posh/not posh thing.
It plays into the plan.

It is what it is. This is england.

Queen's consent, like prorogation, Royal Assent, etc all ways in which the UK's democracy is heavily compromised by remnants of royal power and privilege, which lie around like a loaded gun, waited to be picked up and used by unscrupulous Governments, like this one.

This covers a lot of the ground we have on Cummings and the state of play. Realistic prognosis, with what I guess are accurate predictions on how Corbyn will act in the coming weeks. Sad With some top tips too.>

That was a really interesting video woman the bit about working with rural Tory voters was particularly good. A demographic that Cummings and co cant hit well at this stage.

If that somehow worked out I would be worried about other demographics within leave though...

and

Alastair Campbell, Dan Jarvis and Tobias Ellwood.

In any order.

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/08/2019 01:37

And what surgery is planned for Dominic, does anyone know?

Nothing too painful, I hope.

Icantreachthepretzels · 30/08/2019 01:46

You know how medication is likely to be affected by a no deal brexit? what about anaesthetic? The vet told me last week I needed to get my bunny's teeth trimmed soon because there was going to be problems getting anaesthetic (he didn't say brexit - but we all knew what he meant, including the bunny - it was that obvious) so animal anaesthetic is at risk - what about people anaesthetic?

What kind of idiot brings about a no deal brexit in October when they have, themselves, an operation scheduled for November? At the very least - I hope the doctor's tending him decide they need to conserve painkillers on account of no deal and simply not administer them to Cummings post op. It was, after all, what he voted for.

PostNotInHaste · 30/08/2019 01:53

So Cummings was part of the Gove education era, that says a lot. Amber Rudd was quick to come up with the list of foreign workers idea at the first party conference when May took over. I’ve no time for her and she deserves to lose her seat at next election.

Our electoral role forms were through about 3 weeks ago.

I wouldn't put it past them to sack all the no 10 staff! Assuming it's genuine in the first place.

tobee · 30/08/2019 03:02

Reading further that twitter feed does spank of Dominic Cummings disinformation or a complete hoax!
