Johnson likes publicity.

Any attention is good attention. Whilst you are talking about how crazy his idea is, the less you come up with your own.

And there it is. The lack of plan to stop no deal. Just a bunch of idiots who argue over who is more right about politics without offering up a practical solution.

Unable to see their own flaws.

And leading us ever closer to the cliff edge and operation Yellowhammer.

Re the C4 news editor saying journalists should call out politicians on their lies, agree totally.

She was on R4 Today making the same points. Then followed by ghastly David Davies who had stayed on from the 8.10 slot who then did a paean of praise to Humphreys. Soon to be gone thank God.

Hester54 · 22/08/2019 16:29

I just love the way many of you think the EU is so soft and fluffy and a beacon of hope in this dark bad world, sounds like you’ve been radicalised

Hazardtired · 22/08/2019 16:32

hester working together is never soft and cuddly it's sweat dropping down your back, hand banging a table in frustration. It's work but not as hard work as going it alone...

Hester54 · 22/08/2019 16:32

Hazardtired Here we go again the EU has been good to us, do you really believe that, as for Tusk he has said many bad things against people in the U.K.

DGRossetti · 22/08/2019 16:35

Oh do go away with your stupid false Brexiteer false dichotomy. Please.

I have yet to find anyone who voted Remain who has said the EU is anything other than flawed in one way or another. It is far from perfect. Maybe it will never be perfect. But I'd rather be working with 27 other countries to make it perfect, than be one country picking holes in it from the outside.

Are we starting a new game of Brexit Bingo ? If so, I've bagged "false dichotomy". Can I also have odds for "taking back control", "choose who to let in", and "democratic vote" please threadmaster ?

AuldAlliance · 22/08/2019 16:39

Hester
Other than his comment on there being a special place in hell for people who promoted Brexit without even a sketch of a plan, what remarks has Tusk made about the UK?

theoriginalmadambee · 22/08/2019 16:43

hazardtired i do understand, but you must acknowledge that continually 'biting the hand' doesn't make for much sympathy. What you politicians have said about EU and specific countries does create the 'not our problem' feeling.

And when I see brexiteers on the media they are truly the 'not my problem' people. All the talk of making Britain great as in the past, the ruler of the world. Don't think a lot of your population has much emphaty.

But that doesn't make me ignorant of the shit a lot of you are left to deal with, and I truly feel sorry about that.

Hester54 · 22/08/2019 16:48

DGRossetti Yes good idea, let’s have remainers bingo,
Didn’t know what you were voting for,
You must be ( take your pick ) racist, thick, right wing xenophobic,
But the majority didn’t vote for it,
I’m in ( fill in country) they think we are made,
Food shortage, medicine shortage, no flights ( already disproved)
Etc, etc

DGRossetti · 22/08/2019 16:52

DGRossetti Yes good idea, let’s have remainers bingo

OK, you go first.

woman19 · 22/08/2019 16:54

Along with Greta Thunberg.
Here's another heroine: Pia Klemp

Many politically engaged under 30s (along with the environment campaigning) they work tirelessly for refugee and human rights.

Splendid generation coming up.

Remainer bingo - BBC bias :

order-order.com/2019/08/20/bbc-admit-lapse-editorial-standards-eu-parliament-results-coverage/

The BBC has admitted its representation of the European Parliamentary election results in May represented a “lapse of editorial standards” when it refused to count the Conservative Party as a ‘pro-Brexit’ party. The organisation’s Executive Complaints Unit is now “consider[ing] what further action is required”…

(contd)

BigChocFrenzy · 22/08/2019 16:57

Good for Pia Klemp 🏅
... and for the Mayor of Paris for presenting the medal

BigChocFrenzy · 22/08/2019 17:04

Brexiter Bingo:

  • "The day after the referendum we'll hold all the cards"

  • They'll give us all we want, because "they need us more than we need them"

  • Merkel will make the EU give in, because cars .....

I wonder how the referendum would have gone in June 2016, if it had been Remain vs No Deal ? Hmm

The day after the votes had been counted, WTO /No Deal is what the ERG went for - and most of the Tory party followed them gladly

BigChocFrenzy · 22/08/2019 17:05

Anyway, let's revisit in 6-12 months after No Deal and see who got what they expected

DGRossetti · 22/08/2019 17:05

Remainer bingo:

Where will I get a decent skinnifrappacino now ?

DGRossetti · 22/08/2019 17:06

The day after the votes had been counted, WTO /No Deal is what the ERG went for - and most of the Tory party followed them gladly

You think they waited that long ? I reckon it was the plan back in 1992.

mrslaughan · 22/08/2019 17:07

Exactly @BigChocFrenzy (re tweet about NZ)
The ignorance of the wider British public is astounding - they believe in the cult of being "special" or maybe "the chosen"- I don't know - but the general level of ignorance is astounding.

Plus the exposure of the underlying class system, that is still very much alive and well - it's eye-opening and appalling

mrslaughan · 22/08/2019 17:10

Hester - if you think the EU is so darn awful - just wait until there is no social services, nhs, workers right - they will seem pretty bloody soft and cuddly compared with the tories - who have no interest in caring for the general populace - also see "austerity "
At least the EU cares enough about its citizens to protect them - not just those that went to the right schools.....

woman19 · 22/08/2019 17:11

I reckon it was the plan back in 1992
I think you may well be right. DGR Major's later surprise election win, probably tipped them over the edge.....

mrslaughan · 22/08/2019 17:12

Oh and start taking responsibility for your actions - I am pretty sure you are a leave voter - if your a Tory as well - you will have blood on your hands

HesterThrale · 22/08/2019 17:13

Hester54 (different Hester!) The food and medicine shortages are all warned about in the government’s own Yellowhammer document. (Not a Remainer rumour.) Along with many other unpleasant consequences of No Deal.

Yes woman some inspirational young folk coming up. What about these two?

madambee I agree the politicans your seeing and hearing are absolutely lacking in empathy and have been rude. They are biting Europe's hand and the public. So you can understand we the British public are in a very dangerous position which is why we've been given so many extensions.

Some will say we've had enough time but when the consequences are so high, when the EU knows a large proportion of the population doesnt even want this, when the good Friday agreement is under threat isn't there a duty of some sorts to be patient? If not on time but a patience in attitude.

I'm not asking for sympathy but empathy to the extreme. Understanding how a country has reached the destination that it's at and understanding the impact that will have on its people. Brexit didn't happen as a movement over night.

There hasn't been much media coverage over here about the prep other EU countries have had to do and tbh I'm glad because that would be used as further propaganda see they need us more then we need them. It's madness because the rest of the EU will be fine.

Anyway, sorry this is long and I need to go but essentially.... sorry yes we're annoying and insulting but such a large percentage of us want to buy food affordably, get the meds we need, keep roofs over our heads that there is no way we're going quietly Grin

Mistigri · 22/08/2019 17:16

Tbh I think sentiment in EU countries towards the U.K. is worse than what madambee describes. I think most people in the EU no longer care either way, Brexit is hardly in the news and they don't give it 2 seconds thought from one week to the next.

Hester54 · 22/08/2019 17:16

BigChocFrenzy All said by politicians, you didn’t believe them did you, negotiating tactics

Hester54 · 22/08/2019 17:18

mrslaughan I don’t think the EU is that awful, but I don’t blow smoke up their ass like so many on here
