Westminstenders: Compromise is a difficult word

Today the HoC had a water leak. It closed the house for the day. This isn't without consequence; any hope for the opportunity of Indicative Votes on Monday had cold water poured on it.

Meanwhile talks between talks between May and Corbyn were about as productive as you'd imagine. But apparently they had nice tea and biscuits.

The Cooper Bill, the last minute lock on May getting a extension to prevent no deal, has been in the Lords today. I say it's been in the Lords but Tories have filibuster Ed on procedure for over 6 hours to prevent the chance of it passing the house. Tory whips are timetabled until 6am but the opposition benches have vowed to go to 7.30am. So far the votes to ruin the procedure have failed comfortably so the opposition have the number. Its just a question of time.

The trouble is with the Lords not sitting tomorrow that means the bill won't get passed until Monday and there are fears it won't get royal assent until Tuesday.

The bill doesn't prevent accidental no deal but it would be a barrier to May.

It therefore looks like May's gambit with the EU to get an extension is to say her plan is ongoing talks with Labour for a cross party solution. It won't wash.

No deal looks more and more likely.

Honestly Red, if you can afford it at all get movers. The reduction in stress will be enormous and worth every penny.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 04/04/2019 20:30

PMK. Thanks Red.

borntobequiet · 04/04/2019 20:32

Thanks Red.
Re moving: always get the professionals in if you can afford it, even for a short distance. Get them to do all the packing as well. The best money I ever spent.

woman19 · 04/04/2019 20:33

woman19 who said the video attached to the Guardian article was 'fake news' - why do you think that
Sorry, vanity it was a (failed) joke, Blush I should have used quotation marks, round the words 'fake news'.

Thank you red and all. Shock

I would hire a firm red, we've used great ones who dismantle the entire unpacked up house and deliver it packed up. If there's gap between getting keys you can go off for lunch and meet them at the house. Glad to hear at least your house move is progressing.

PMK. Thanks again, Red.

FWIW, having moved a fair bit, I'd always use professionals now as they can do it so much faster than you can with a hire van. Doing it all yourself in a day would be crazy, particularly as you'll have to be out by 10-11am. Professionals will have you out and in again in no time at all. And all you need to do is keep your box of essentials with you so you can have a cup of tea / coffee while you watch the movers work!

I can't even begin to comment on the ongoing clusterfuck. I have nothing of any use to say about it!

OublietteBravo · 04/04/2019 20:37

Red - we paid professionals to pack and move us even though our old house and new house were only 300m apart. It was definitely worth the money.

PestyMachtubernahme · 04/04/2019 20:41

Red I moved less than a mile with a baby and two toddlers. Professional movers are worth every penny. They even pack, for a price.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 04/04/2019 20:44

Another vote for full service professional movers Red! Unless money is very tight, it’s well worth it

wherearemychickens · 04/04/2019 20:44

Our last move was about 300m - we didn't have professional movers, it was more 'men with a van' territory, but definitely worth every penny.

InterchangeableEmma · 04/04/2019 20:44

The best moves I've had we've packed ourselves then had movers who also dismantled/reassembled the furniture. I've had packing and it was amazing, I prefer to do my own though

I’ve noticed a weird trend on Twitter recently. Labour/ remain leaving positions have been receiving threats of violence, some veiled, some less so. All saying that not backing No Deal is a betrayal of democracy or similar, and that such politicians should expect a backlash/ retribution.

Noticed that most of them have the same pattern of
Male twitter name + female name plus string of numbers twitter handle Hmm for eg
DerekS @sarah039183

What a... coincidence?

I've received some of these on twitter. Vile comments.

Flowers FlowersFlowers Flowers to all who shared their awful experiences on the last thread. It hurt to read it, so it must be horrible to live it.

Sorry words feel so inadequate on that Sad

prettybird · 04/04/2019 21:13

"Grow your own" regal cat Confused (no, we don't know what he was doing either Hmm) demonstrating a strong sense of place! Grin (Picture taken a month before he was killed Sad)

Michael Forsyth had gone up marginally in my estimation even though he's a Tory 2nd time round as Secretary of State for Scotland as he seemed to have learnt a bit of humility, but he has plummeted waaaaay back down to the depths he deserved Angry

Thanks Red.

And yes, I have also suffered the humiliation of DLA/PIP assessments.

BestIsWest · 04/04/2019 21:18

Yes, we moved less than half a mile but got professional movers in. Worth every penny.

DGRossetti · 04/04/2019 21:20

Runningintothesunset · 04/04/2019 21:23

I’m going to add my chorus to the “if you can afford it get the packers and movers”. Moving is such hard work physically and emotionally, let the pros take a big chunk of the strain away

usuallydormant · 04/04/2019 21:25

I wonder if the next push for Irish diplomacy will be convincing others to make a special case for the border in a post Brexit world. Today Leo Varadkar and Angela Merkel (who knows only too well what a hard border is) had a round table with border communities twitter.com/merrionstreet/status/1113809095964987393?s=21

Next month Nancy Pelosi and the Irish American chair of the ways and means committee Neal (mentioned before by BCF I think, and in charge of post Brexit deals) will visit Ireland, and the border, reminding people the US is also a guarantor of the GFA.

I’ve noticed a weird trend on Twitter recently.

If you haven't already, play about with your quality filters. I hardly see any dickheads/bots now. I sometimes see 'Other replies' but I have to click to read them so I don't.
