How are you "managing" your "stockpile"?

With everything up in the air as it is, are you using it, leaving it well alone, adding to it or using but replacing so things are getting rotated?

I've got a bit of dried goods and toiletries which I'm using but replacing but leaving freezer food alone for now and just getting what I need in small amounts as I don't have much room in the freezer at all now.

Just wondered what everyone else is doing?

@bellinisurge - I was being a bit smart-arsed. I was visualising a stash of actual pets stuffed in your wardrobe and hoping they were not st bernards or similar.

Sturmundcalm · 24/05/2019 12:40

I was actually concerned yesterday when i went to top up the baked beans stash and Waitrose had run out of their 4-pack of basics (I actually prefer their's to Heinz now). This is despite the fact we still have about 8 tins in the house.

If I go again on Sunday and there's none I may take it as a sign and start to panic buy in general Wink

bellinisurge · 24/05/2019 12:46

@Isthisafreename , and you think I haven't GrinGrin. Fair do-s . Nice one.

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/05/2019 13:25

Here we go again.

I was looking forward to having space in the freezer for ice-cream. Back to peas and sweetcorn.

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/05/2019 13:27

Stash sorting scheduled for Saturday then. Thankfully it will not need much topping up. Apart from the dreaded shreddies!

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/05/2019 13:29

We did not use many baked beans as they were the bottom layer in a cupboard and it was quite difficult to extract them.

Gooseysgirl · 24/05/2019 13:30

I quite like having a Brexit stash... a few times recently I've thought 'hmm we're out of pasta... oh wait a minute - I'll raid the Brexit stash!!' It has saved me a few last minute trips to the shops 😂

megletthesecond · 24/05/2019 13:31

I haven't touched mine. I've spot checked it and even the less long lasting items have got a few weeks on them.

I should dig it all out really and tidy it up.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/05/2019 20:22

I'm back to thinking about starting to stock up again.

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/05/2019 23:01

When to stock up though? And with what?

I expect that I am going to have to run with high stocks of everything.

We had a Brexit tea. Chicken curry tin with a tin of peas thrown in. Only 1.5 portions of veg each, though I upped mine with a portion of sultanas. Served with Aldi naan bread. Delicious.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/05/2019 23:14

I dunno, we are going to have some renovations done in the summer. I don't want the builders to see my stash. I need to have a good sort out and work out what to do.

Potentialmadcatlady · 25/05/2019 07:29

Isthisafreename... sometimes I wish I could stick them in the wardrobe for at least an afternoon... I foster and have some of my own including some disabled ones so my ‘petstash’ is quite large...
having said that having a few plastic boxes full of pet food has been great and now I know exactly what to get in.
Going to have to go shopping again early next week😢have enjoyed not having to bother for a few weeks and have even managed to save up a little bit of money 😁

BlackeyedGruesome · 25/05/2019 09:06

With renovations, there is going to be disruption, boxes everywhere etc. If it were me I would be packing brexit supplies at the bottom of a box and putting other stuff on top.

Isthisafreename · 25/05/2019 12:23

Grin I know what you mean. Particularly when I'm trying to get stuff done and the one that likes to fetch keeps coming up and poking me in the knee with the toy she wants me to throw for her.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2019 17:57

That's true Blackeyed. UHT and juices need to be used up first so they can go in cupboards. Tins can can just be hidden in boxes.

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/05/2019 20:51

Good luck with the renovations.

What are your thoughts on storing petrol in the appropriate canisters that you buy from petrol stations and then storing it in a shady part of the garden?

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/05/2019 09:30

bad idea.

better make provision for saving extra money for petrol. buy other stuff now and store, then in theory, you will have spare money to buy the petrol at increased prices.

better to buy a bike and trailer for local transport to the shops etc to save on needing the car so much.

Motherof3feminists · 27/05/2019 09:39

My stockpiling will recommence this week by replacing what's been used so far. I'd made a list of how many of what things we had so will be easy to know what to get. I've mainly used the stuff that was going out of date such as milk and juice and of course all the sweets and biscuits that were best before May.

Don't stockpile petrol!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2019 09:40

Definitely don't stockpile petrol!!! Work out how you can minimise your use of it instead.

NotNowMrTumnus · 27/05/2019 10:01

OK, point taken. You have made my DH very happy 😃

I’ll spend the petrol canister money on chocolate Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2019 10:05

Good plan :D just think how much you can buy for the price of one canister.

XXVaginaAndAUterus · 27/05/2019 10:12

You lot are restocking?!

Damn. I've been eating the brexit stash mainly due to lack of pennies - fed up of tins everywhere and nothing seemed to be moving very quickly. Do you think the new leader fuck you Tories and your shitshow of bad option candidates will push it through quicker than October?

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/05/2019 23:43

Saving petrol: drive as if you have a bucket of water in your car; accelerate and decelerate smoothly.

Drive at 60 not 70 on motorways

Clear out all the crap from your car.

Walk/bike if you can.

Get organised, make a list and buy everything you need on one trip.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/06/2019 14:05

Asda have 5kg bags of red lentils at 1.20 something per kilo. We use a lot of red lentils.

They also have camping BBQs for a tenner. Bought for DD so we can have a separate veggie BBQ if necessary. Need to pick up some charcoal.

I still have millions of tins of beans and not enough chopped tomatoes so will be adjusting the ratio of chopped tomatoes to beans.
