How are you "managing" your "stockpile"?

With everything up in the air as it is, are you using it, leaving it well alone, adding to it or using but replacing so things are getting rotated?

I've got a bit of dried goods and toiletries which I'm using but replacing but leaving freezer food alone for now and just getting what I need in small amounts as I don't have much room in the freezer at all now.

Just wondered what everyone else is doing?

Tins are getting used in any order as they have such long dates and using the most accessible stash and keeping this replenished.

The largest stash is tricky to access so is getting left alone. I have got til about September before I need to pull it all out and rotate it. I will pick a weekend when the children are away.

Cupboard was stacked in date order. Using short date stuff first if I can.

Most stuff can stay where it is for now until we know what is happening.

Crisps will be the trickiest to rotate as they are stashed away from greedy guts here so I don't eat all of them before tomorrow...

I am replacing what I use and adding little things here and there.

Doing a veg shop soon.

It is quite nerve wracking as the gap between knowing if we get an extension and crashing out is less than two days. No time to do last minute purchases if necessary as we will be competing with everyone else and the ordinary weekend shoppers.

I’m mostly just leaving it be in separate areas. Nothing has use by dates that are that near/of importance.
Some bits I’ve used up and am replenishing.

I've not really paid a huge amount of attention to dates as most is tinned / dried / items which last a while and these are under the bed.

Our freezers are rammed full of all sorts.

The fridge stuff will be used and replaced as it's used, as we would normally, but there's just more stuff like butter / dairy free spread in there than usual.

I think it'll become clear next week what's happening either way, so I don't think it'll be long before we can use the stash (either because it's no deal or because there's a long extension so there's no point not using it up).

None of the stuff I have is perishable so it doesn't matter. As Fluffy said, whether deal or no deal, we can start eating it next Saturday.

Depends on the length of any possible extension.

If it is no deal then I will use the stash for when I can't get stuff and try and keep buying what there is.

If there is a short extension I will keep it stashed and just top up the perishables, if it is a long extension, I will eat/ drink in date order but keep a full cupboard going.

DH thinks I'm mad to stock pile so I can't decide whether I want it to be needed so I can so I told you so or not Hmm

the flextension won't be guaranteed until next wednesday. depends on how much we have pissed off spain, or france... or...

The uncertainty means its now also impossible to plan your stockpile!

Adding to it a little. Unfortunately I've eaten lots of the sweets Blush but we have lots of chocolate and treats left. Just no kitkats Blush All the proper food is safe because I don't get the urge to cook macaroni cheese at 9pm but I do like a packet of chewits 😩
Every week I make sure I've got plenty of butter, milk and cheese so I'm not dipping into the stash. I've recently added cereal, crisps and a random tin of soup. I don't eat much tinned stuff but do like asparagus soup so thought it would be good to have in. I've been adding toiletries and toilet roll most weeks. I've also added regularly to the stash I have for my mum.

If we get another extension I need to check dates and start using and replacing some items. I'm hoping the chocolate has good dates as I've gained weight due to all those kitkats Sad

My children are hoping they can eat all the treats soon though. They see no deal=lots of sweets and chocolate but not much fresh veg and fruit. So to them it's a positive but they also realise in what ways no deal is not good for lots of people and that also the treats will be rationed.

We'll start eating from the weekend when I can get in and have a sort out and guess we all start worrying about it again in September...

Going to eat anything with a shortish date. Tins will last. As we may leave at any time between now and October, I will keep a smaller stockpile going and regularly reassess the situation.

I shall enjoy cooking with dd and ds.

If we leave before October it'll be with a deal and, therefore, the transition period will apply. During transition things will stay the same as now, so there shouldn't be any issues with shortages / price rises.

I brought out my toilet roll stash today (bar 2 rolls) because we'd run out and was easier than going to the shop. I also got out some long life cheese spread (primula) which is out of date in June. I'm not going to worry too much about using up some of the stash now but will replace before October.

Will keep my stash but rotate the contents and replace anything I use, but won't be increasing it. Am glad to have a break from the stress of 'will we/won't we' for awhile. Turns out it's been a great idea as I've decluttered loads clearing space for it!

I've just gone through my cupboard stash and written a list of what will go out of date in 2019, I think everything in the shed will be good until 2020 so I will leave it there.
Worth thinking about "civil disruption" if there are European elections in May? And not wanting to leave the house for a few days? (Although I will be in Greece at this point drinking cheap wine and trying to explain to my Greek friends what the fuck is going on). Does anyone have a view on how long butter and cheese lasts in the freezer? I bought a ton so could still make cheese sauce for my toddler in the event of apocalypse.

Could do, but they'd need to be folk who like gluten free/dairy free stuff. That's part of the reason I stashed, because I have strict dietary requirements. I'm also not in the best of health/disabled and having an 'in house' stock is proving to be very handy for days when my energy levels are low.

@Tensixtysix , don't assume that people can only be considered in crisis if they use a food bank.
Discussing it with previously sceptical dh this morning. We'll take the opportunity to try some recipes that we had planned with the shelf stable stuff we have.

Because my food wasn't bought with spare money, just in advance, so it's not food we can spare. Obviously if we could, we would.

I prepped with quite a strong focus on treats - so DH got a creme egg with his coffee this morning Wink

Having had a look through stuff today most of my kitchen cupboards had space so have moved some stuff through but will probably keep a separate stash for some of the tinned stuff in particular, have now decided that we do need to be better prepared in general for snow/whatever and have the space.

I'll probably use up for the next 6 weeks or so and then resume in the way I was buying before which was as things were on special offer. We're going to be really skint this month due to birthdays, etc so suits to have the stuff here!
