How are you "managing" your "stockpile"?

With everything up in the air as it is, are you using it, leaving it well alone, adding to it or using but replacing so things are getting rotated?

I've got a bit of dried goods and toiletries which I'm using but replacing but leaving freezer food alone for now and just getting what I need in small amounts as I don't have much room in the freezer at all now.

Just wondered what everyone else is doing?

My stockpile managing has resulted in weight gain due to using up all the treats that went out of date this month BlushFucking brexit.

londonloves · 20/05/2019 08:47

Cracked open the last bar of whole nut last night,.. need to restock!

WellTidy · 20/05/2019 08:56

We are eating everything!

My shopping bill has pretty much halved every week, as we are eating and drinking so many things out of the freezer and pantry. Things that I found hard to get hold of as they weren't stocked locally (like the posh smash type potato) I am keeping for Brexit mark two. Everything else, we are eating and I will replace in the run up to the next leaving date.

We had a lot of treats in our stash, which we are eating rather quickly. This weekend, we've had ginger beer, pringles, chocolate, cheese twists and biscuits. Brexit has made me gain weight. True fact.

I have however kept my stash of laundry/cleaning/dishwasher stuff as I know that it won't go off.

We have been using ours and will start to build it up again from late summer. The UHT has been very useful when we've been running low on milk! and it's so handy having big bags of pasta and rice - not having to buy them constantly

BlackeyedGruesome · 20/05/2019 23:31

Had to empty half the cupboard to find the coffee so it is spread across the work surface.

I may have stockpiled more yarn.... Accidentally, after falling into the yarn shop and staying for an hour. Oops

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 07:25

Me too @BlackeyedGruesome . I've tried to salve my yarn frenzy by buying some recommended yarn for Woolly Hugs and planning some squares.
I also have other yarn. Blush

BlackeyedGruesome · 21/05/2019 13:21

Lots of other yarn?

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 14:23

Naturally. Grin

Sturmundcalm · 21/05/2019 14:34

mine has got a bit chaotic. and i realised this morning that we may be down to single figures in terms of tins of beans so going to need to do a proper check and make a list of stuff that should be stocked back up. do need to try and manage it down a bit but we're not out of the woods yet... haven't bought washing powder or toilet rolls for about 8 weeks now and still have LOTS in!

Poppyinafieldofdreams · 21/05/2019 17:30

Stockpilers.

You won’t be able to stockpile in the future. It will carry the death sentence.

Food energy and water crises will be what future wars are fought over.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 18:53

Ha! @Poppyinafieldofdreams . Gotta find me and it first.

BlackeyedGruesome · 21/05/2019 20:49

As it is not yet the future...

Anyway,

It is never a little bit of yarn is it?

bellinisurge · 22/05/2019 06:35

No. Never a little bit. I've made some fab and enormous and snuggly granny squares from job lots of ends bought off EBay. Very relaxing to sit and crochet like Mme Defarge at the guillotine.

Potentialmadcatlady · 22/05/2019 16:45

So having happily worked my way through my ‘treat stockpile’ I’m sitting here wondering whether I should restock my stockpile? And when? Any suggestions?
Ps I bought some more wool today 😉

bellinisurge · 22/05/2019 16:49

Wool is the answer

@Potentialmadcatlady you do what you can afford and feel is right for you.
To be honest, I think no home should be without a treat stash with all this mad shit going on. Take it from there.

Potentialmadcatlady · 22/05/2019 17:05

Thanks and I think you are right. It has been quite good as a ‘practise’ run in a way because I now know what to get and what not to get 😁. Havnt bought toilet rolls in ages and my pet stash has been fab. Going to restash all the things we have used up most. I guess sooner rather than later? My veg patch has also been a learning curve that I have enjoyed.
Ps back to wool- if you don’t already know- check out temperature blankets and C2C blankets. Great to use up stash wool not allocated to a WIP

BlackeyedGruesome · 22/05/2019 19:45

Use up the stash Shock

Some yarn is just because.

I have many UFOs to sort before starting anything else.

I am getting twitchy as the situation is getting a bit uncertain again. Working out what is getting used fastest. Definitely the shreddies! And thinking about getting those things in and rebalancing the stockpile.

This year we are practising growing stuff.

Ah well, it was a good month off. Back to maintaining a smallish stockpile in case of emergencies and planning better the proportions of stuff.

bellinisurge · 22/05/2019 19:53

Shreddies here too @BlackeyedGruesome GrinGod bless Aldi own brand shreddies. Fecking delicious.

Motherof3feminists · 22/05/2019 20:48

I'm definitely not stocking as many treats when it comes to restocking. Definitely more passata, butter, cheeses. Cereal, pasta, rice, dried mango, loo roll and toiletries.

Potentialmadcatlady · 22/05/2019 21:33

Rice crispies... I didn’t have enough rice crispies

BlackeyedGruesome · 23/05/2019 18:28

DD has the Aldi malties for the B12. Ds Has real shreddies as his aspie taste buds refuse fakes. He gets through a lot of milk and eats meat at school.

Isthisafreename · 24/05/2019 11:07

@Potentialmadcatlady - my pet stash has been fab

You have a pet stash? Do they not mind being stashed away? My dogs would go mad.

RhubarbIsEvil · 24/05/2019 11:35

So, Theresa May is stepping down on 7 June and it will be all systems go for a swift exit with No Deal. Time to start stockpiling again.

bellinisurge · 24/05/2019 11:41

@Isthisafreename , yep - I have a pet stash. It's been excellent to have a buffer of stuff (including litter) for my overlord.

GlowWine · 24/05/2019 12:20

Yes @RhubarbIsEvil my thoughts exactly. Well we've eaten our way through the more perishable things like biscuits and crackers and things from the freezer but the tins are hardly touched (maybe I slightly overestimated our weekly consumption of tinned tomatoes and baked beans Smile), I guess I just need to top them up, whilst paying some attention to use by dates. But hey the weeks of doing a weekly shop for £20 were BLISS!
I guess from a most pessimistic perspective, there is no deadline now? It could be as soon as the successor is in office?
