How are you "managing" your "stockpile"?

With everything up in the air as it is, are you using it, leaving it well alone, adding to it or using but replacing so things are getting rotated?

I've got a bit of dried goods and toiletries which I'm using but replacing but leaving freezer food alone for now and just getting what I need in small amounts as I don't have much room in the freezer at all now.

Just wondered what everyone else is doing?

Snap, Mrs Jones!

We're having great fun delving under the bed to see what we have! Grin And we're emptying the freezer too, which is good. I'm glad we will have some space in there soon!

1 day into term. already broken into the brexit freezer stash which was to be for later in term when things got tricky.

made tea with the ready cooked veg, still took a while to cook the lentils but I could lie down while it cooked and did not have to peel/chop/cook carrots etc.

CrunchyCarrot · 30/04/2019 08:04

Have had a few items out of the stockpile now but am replacing them with today's grocery order. Definitely not downsizing it with things still as they are!

NoWordForFluffy · 30/04/2019 08:18

We ate some of the treats last night. Bye bye M&Ms and Wispas! 😂😂

prettybird · 30/04/2019 13:27

I have two legs of lamb in the freezer, following the good deal in Lidl in the run up to Easter (bought 3, had one).

Might break out one of the frozen pheasant left over from Christmas, this weekend!

My freezer is still full, but less strategically so. I've taken a couple of things out of the dry stash but noting them down to replace. My husband thinks we should just start using everything up but I'm nervous about it. I haven't been keeping up with the news for the last couple of weeks as it's all too depressing.
Might post something on the main peepers board about prepping for climate change related breakdown of civilisation...

I’m managing my stockpile by eating it. Only thing I’ve bought are a few pints of milk and some fruit over the last couple of weeks. Will put money saved on usual shopping bill aside to restock in September if necessary.

Things I have learned:

  • much prefer powdered milk to uht in tea if I run out of fresh
  • cream not suitable for freezing
Dontlickthetrolley · 07/05/2019 16:10

I bought bread products yesterday for the first time since 23rd March. I've also learnt frozen blueberries are not very nice!

NoWordForFluffy · 07/05/2019 17:26

We're slowly getting through the stash. We're starting on the frozen eggs at the weekend!

DH can have frozen blueberries in his porridge if they're that bad, as I know DS won't go for them!

BrendasUmbrella · 07/05/2019 17:50

The frozen wild blueberries from Picard (Ocado) are really nice. And healthier than regular blueberries too.

BrendasUmbrella · 07/05/2019 17:51

I'm using up our stash too. It's been nice having options when we'd usually have to call for a takeaway. I'm keeping a "skeleton stash" because you never know, and starting again late summer.

Me too. If things start to look like they are going to go pear-shaped again I will (a) stop eating it and (b) buy more. Also need to restock on some medicinal/cosmetic items.

Frozen soft fruit isn't very nice unless you put it in something. DH makes apple and frozen soft fruit crumble which he and DS like very much.

Secondstartothergt · 07/05/2019 22:03

Fruit pies for the frozen fruit I reckon. Cant go far wrong with a pie!

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2019 22:10

If Brexit ever gets revoked we shall we celebrating by popping open a 5L bottle of water. Or two.

StealthPolarBear · 07/05/2019 22:11

And I hope we've seen that there is a lot of game playibg and poker face but we won't crash out

NoWordForFluffy · 12/05/2019 09:45

I've made my first thing with defrosted eggs today: Yorkshire puddings. The batter was a bit thicker than usual. But they seem to be OK in the scheme of things!

Cakes later!

We have a slight hiccup in that we are going to be having some building works done. They muttered about needing to go in the loft where it was all neatly on shelves. So dh panicked a bit and boxed everything up without regard to date. So I need to go up and sort through the boxes.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 12/05/2019 10:05

Mostly just eating it. I am replacing some things though. I'd say we've eaten about a third of it.

prettybird · 12/05/2019 10:35

Frozen soft fruit can be made into an instant icecream by blitzing it in the food processor and then adding full fat Greek yoghurt and/or double cream. Smile

If you need to, you can add some sugar, honey or maple syrup to taste.

Secondstartothergt · 12/05/2019 11:13

Totally tangent but NoWordFoFluffy (assume you are a blackadder fan?!) please can I have your recipe and method for Yorkshire puds? Mine taste great but they tend to expand horizontally rather than vertically...

NoWordForFluffy · 12/05/2019 11:38

@Secondstartothergt, you're the first person to ever spot the origin of my name! ⭐️ 😁

Here is the recipe I use (scaled down to 3/4, so 105g flour, 3 eggs and 150ml milk to do 6 large puddings): www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9020/best-yorkshire-puddings

I've just started using the stick blender to combine it all as it gets way more air in (and I'm recovering from shoulder surgery so don't have the oomph in my right arm to do it manually right now either).

Mine sometimes go a bit haywire. I was lucky today! 😂

Secondstartothergt · 12/05/2019 19:45

Thanks NoWord! I’ll give that recipe a try. Maybe frozen eggs is they key?!

NoWordForFluffy · 12/05/2019 19:49

They took quite a bit of breaking up, yolk-wise, but the end result tasted the same!

Prynhawn · 13/05/2019 12:06

These threads are like a weird mashup between yank preppers and Delia Smith...

bellinisurge · 13/05/2019 13:11

Pretty sure nobody on here or on the Preppers Board talks about arming yourself or about zombies but @Prynhawn whatever works for you
