So how are the celebrating going?

Didn’t exactly go to plan did it?

Has it started to sink in what a fucking mess this all is?

Unfortunately, EFTA is now impossible, because UK antics during Brexit negotiations have so disgusted the EFTA members that they don't want us.

Mistigri · 31/03/2019 08:11

If we can get through the blitz

Estimates put the number of deaths during the blitz at around 40,000.

Those people didn't "get through" it.

bellinisurge · 31/03/2019 08:21

Did you get through the blitz @avidreader4 ? My granny did. She had to leave her home for ever. At the same time she found out that one of her sons might have died. While she was recovering in her "new home" she had to wait a couple of months before she found out my dad - tbe son in question- was still alive. It broke her.
You really want to use that sort of thing as your test of whether shit is ok or not?

1tisILeClerc · 31/03/2019 08:41

{I do happen to think the EU has overstretched it initial mandate but we should have been tackling this from the inside}

For a start the original mandate is over 40 years old and surprise surprise the world has moved on a bit since. You are not exactly how you were 40 years ago. My body would love to go back 40 years but knowing what I do now.
The UK as a member of the EU had a lot of say in the directions taken but when you have twats like Farage as an MEP you can understand why things may not always have been in the UK's 'best' interests.

Quartz2208 · 31/03/2019 08:48

You can’t compare it to the Blitz. The Blitz had to happen because the alternative was the rise of Hitler and the fascist state and the holocaust happening everywhere. Really something worth fighting for

So unless you are really comparing the EU to a fascist state which really does fail to grasp exactly how bad Hitler was you are trying to get people to live through something awful because what?

Because like it or not at least 16 million people are quite happy with how things are. They don’t want to have to live through a blitz in the hope that at the other end it going to be better than this

Because for me I get there are logical reasons for wanting to leave but absolutely no solutions as to how leaving will actually be better or solve them. All in the belief that Britain will be great again (although even that really does show why it doesn’t work because what does Britain not include ...)

sashh · 31/03/2019 08:50

I wonder what people who want "no deal" think no deal actually means in a practical sense

Sky did a survey, it showed 40% of those asked thought that meant we would remain in the EU.

BertrandRussell · 31/03/2019 09:02

It would be interesting to see how many leave voters voted in MEP elections. I would imagine all the ones with rational well thought out reasons for their vote did...

Peregrina · 31/03/2019 09:08

I have been asking the question about how Leave voters voted in the EP elections since 2016. So far, I haven't had one positive response to say that they vote at all. Reasons given being things like they want to make a statement. Going and spoiling your vote makes a statement - spoilt votes are counted. Staying away - and no one knows whether it's a statement or whether you just couldn't be bothered. Since some Leavers quite happily talk about not knowing who 'their MEP' is, it's more likely to be the latter.

1tisILeClerc · 31/03/2019 09:10

{Because like it or not at least 16 million people are quite happy with how things are}
It is more than 16 Million. Those who did not bother to vote expressed their 'satisfaction' or at least indifference to being in the EU. Failure to oppose is tacit approval.

Fazackerley · 31/03/2019 09:12

Because for me I get there are logical reasons for wanting to leave but absolutely no solutions as to how leaving will actually be better

If you ask leavers what they think they will gain by leaving they just get angry. Haven't heard a single compelling reason.

BertrandRussell · 31/03/2019 09:14

“Failure to oppose is tacit approval.”

Absolutely. There appears to be an attempt in some quarters to suggest that non voters tacitly support the majority. Which seems bonkers.

1tisILeClerc · 31/03/2019 09:21

Since the referendum was asking whether the UK should leave, which is taking an action rather than continuing, only 17.4 Million from an electorate of 46 Million wanted to take this action. Thus they are not the majority who are wanting to leave.

Exhausted18 · 31/03/2019 10:23

@Cattenberg "Anyway, I saw footage of the pro-Brexit protest today and I’d really like to know what the US flags were there for. Does anyone know?"

Was it a confederate flag? If so, that would be for a Scottish loyalist flute band that was in attendance. Their logo is a confederate flag with the six county colony symbol on it (a homage to the UVF, a loyalist terrorist organisation in Northern Ireland, who were responsible for, amongst other things, the Dublin and Monaghan bombings which killed 34 people Hmm). I would be embarrassed to have such people representing me if I was a leaver tbh!

Windowsareforcheaters · 31/03/2019 10:32

A Confederate flag?

Nope, no racism amount leavers. Nothing racist there.

Ffs

Windowsareforcheaters · 31/03/2019 10:32

Among not amount

Bearbehind · 31/03/2019 10:35

If we can get through the blitz then i'm pretty sure a few queues at Dover will be survivable

Wow.

Just when you think things couldn’t slip any lower, someone says that.

Now that really is disgusting.

In an interview when Farage was in Northampton or somewhere last week he stated that there would be 'around 20 Million' of his marchers and supporters arriving in London on Friday.
Did anyone see them?

ItsMsAtomicBobToYou · 31/03/2019 11:48

Can we please stop spouting the nonsense that Ireland was made to vote twice on the Nice Treaty because it didn't vote the right way the first time?

It was rejected first time, there were changes made to the text and Ireland was given specific exclusions on some terms and people voted for the amended treaty.

I guess that doesn't fit with the Brexiteer version of the truth though.

bellinisurge · 31/03/2019 12:01

Quite right @ItsMsAtomicBobToYou

Coppersulphate · 31/03/2019 23:28

Quartz,
I think no deal will be good because it will mean we will be free of the ECJ
We will no longer have to pay vast sums into the EU.
We will be able to make our own trade deals.

I think our government are perfectly capable of managing our withdrawal but are being thwarted by MPs who are remainers and are determined not to honour the outcome of the referendum.
I believe the vast majority of people in the country want to leave (apart from the bubble of MN) but the MPs and the BBC have a vested interest in remaining.

BertrandRussell · 31/03/2019 23:42

“I think no deal will be good because it will mean we will be free of the ECJ”
we made most of our own laws anyway
We will no longer have to pay vast sums into the EU
We disn’t pay very much and we won’t now get anything back

We will be able to make our own trade deals.
We could anyway- all Wu members make tasing arrangements with countries outside the EU. And if we want to trade with Eu countries we’ll still have to abide by EU regulations

YouBumder · 01/04/2019 00:09

I believe the vast majority of people in the country want to leave

What’s that based on? Not the referendum result, surely.

EBearhug · 01/04/2019 02:41

I think our government are perfectly capable of managing our withdrawal

They're nor showing much evidence of being able to manage anything well in the last few years. Plus, part of managing things is being able to unite people from different viewpoints to work towards the end goal.

bellinisurge · 01/04/2019 06:19

Yes, Coppersulphate . Those Remainer bastards in the DUP and ERG thwarting every attempt by the government. 😂

orangeblosssom · 01/04/2019 06:29

Those who voted leave/the far right groups should read up about British history and learn about how immigration has helped shape Britain. Millions of people from India and Africa fought in the WW1 and 2 for Britain. Many NHS staff are immigrants.
Please try and be open to diversity.
