This thread is for those prepping for brexit and building up their family stores for the possibility of no deal and food shortages and/or delays.
Suggestions welcome on what to stash.

It's given me the rage too.

If we did get into the situation where water was being distributed (real worse case scenario stuff) then it would be a good idea to purify that...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2019 10:24

Agreed Redhat, I'd be boiling any distributed water or purifying it if that wasn't an option.

redhat · 21/02/2019 10:33

Ive just sent a pack of 100 water purification tablets to my parents via amazon. For £2.50 I'd prefer the peace of mind.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2019 10:37

Worth noting you can get at least two different strengths of tablets. I've bought the 8.5mg for dd which does one litre bottles as she won't have space to store more (and the cleaner will think she's gone quite batty if she tried) and one that does big containers, which is what we have for home.

BlackeyedGruesome · 21/02/2019 10:50

That is a good idea OYBBK.will check out their different strengths.

Would be about shit having powered milk and nothing safe to make it up with.

Got to do an Amazon order today. My beloved flask has failed. It has served me faithfully for 30 years.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2019 11:59

The cheapest purifying tablets are add on items so don't buy separately.

Batsypatsy · 21/02/2019 14:00

I live in a flat so nowhere to put a bucket to collect water. I think I'll try and find space for a couple of large bottles of water Confused

Batsypatsy · 21/02/2019 14:01

Altho i expect the chance of us being without water is very slim?

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 14:09

@Batsypatsy , again water problems are unlikely but I assume you have a window (sorry if that sounds arsey). I'm sure you can either stick a bucket outside on a string or , while it might be more fiddly, work out a way to collect some from outside if your window and funnel it inside. I must repeat- I don't expect any water problems. But that's what I would do if I needed to and there was no bottled water being distributed.

SparklySneakers · 21/02/2019 14:45

Well those last two women might find themselves a little hungry!

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 14:49

Maybe those two were bluffing Grin. #sneakypreppergreymanskills

Cloudtree · 21/02/2019 15:12

"We're determined not to" Confused do you get some sort of special prize for not giving in?

Cloudtree · 21/02/2019 15:13

If so then I'm fucked and have not won the determined prize Sad

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/02/2019 15:16

Does anyone else have a Kelly kettle for boiling water?

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 15:20

I don't but I've heard good things. I'm old so I'm used to boiling kettle on the hob. I've got camping stuff if the gas is off. Which I don't expect to need but , hey, I'm a general prepper, it's what we do Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2019 15:32

I'm curious, how many of us have been approached by media about our prepping?

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 15:34

I've been approached twice. One got some general stuff non identifiable from me. The other wanted to come to my house Confused. A polite feck off.

SalrycLuxx · 21/02/2019 17:05

I’ve been approached. Gave some general info, but when asked for face to face I pointed out the first rule of prepping...

Graphista · 21/02/2019 17:46

been a stressful few weeks which is why I took a step back (not brexit related but need to mind my mh)

"What sort of tinned meat or meat meals have people got?" I'm veggie but in discussion with dd I've got her beef casserole, chicken curry and chilli in tins. Only 1 of each for now for her to try and then when we know what she likes will stock up. Already know she likes tuna, pilchards, corned beef and spam (seriously on a tech thread I was explaining she's like an 80 yr old in an 18 year olds body - yea she's turned 18 too - how the fuck do I have an 18 year old daughter? I'm only 30 46 😉😂)

I'm gonna get hot dog sausages (which dd will also happily have in pasta or with cous cous or even super noodles)

I've posted and even started threads debating joining Amazon prime to stock up but then upon looking up pantry items they weren't actually cheaper than sainsburys! Am I doing something wrong?

Cloudtree · 21/02/2019 18:26

Amazon pantry is rarely cheaper than the supermarkets ime. I always check them but it’s usually only when things are on an offer that they sometimes come out lower.

Cloudtree · 21/02/2019 18:26

Their catering size stuff is sometimes cheaper per kg

Graphista · 21/02/2019 18:30

Yea this is what I'm finding. Annoying as I THOUGHT buying in bulk would be cheaper - I've just gone and done a comparison and tbh even the stuff that's cheaper isn't cheaper by enough when the subscription and delivery cost is accounted for seems to be a con to be honest

BlackeyedGruesome · 21/02/2019 20:02

I have been organising storage space 5( Sounds a lot but honestly small flat
means a lot of teeny tiny stashes ) which is an awkward sod to get to. I have been compiling a combined list. It is showing up some gaps in provisions. Also most of our vegetable and fibre intake will be beans. If only there were a way to harness the natural gas that will be produced! 🤢

Grin

Just getting my act together to finish the job.

Thankfully I still have time to add missing items to the list, will have to wait til the end of next week though.
