This thread is for those prepping for brexit and building up their family stores for the possibility of no deal and food shortages and/or delays.
Suggestions welcome on what to stash.

A lot of my purchases have been offers, it has meant weird stockpiling purchases. Ages ago there was a trolley of toothpaste, deodorants, sweet chilli, soy sauce from Sainsbury's,

More recently domestos figured significantly in a Morrisons trolley.

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 10:46

Coffee from Tesco, about two months ago. If you go to a few supermarkets you can get a variety of offers

Cloudtree · 16/03/2019 12:14

Ive done exactly the same. I've switched between the supermarkets and purchased based on the offers and so some deliveries have looked very odd indeed.

That's the benefit of stockpiling over a long period of time.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/03/2019 12:28

So have I! I've tarted about all of them. 😁

Moorfields · 16/03/2019 19:39

Yes I'm not loyal to any one supermarket, I've flitted between all of them. I've found Morrison's to be the cheapest out of Sainsbury's and Tesco. I'm not near an ASDA, Lidl or Aldi so Morrison's works for my budget atm.

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 20:01

Morrisons is not too bad. Asda has been getting more expensive than before. Some things cheaper and some things really quite expensive and more than Sainsbury's. Sainsbury's have gone up quite a lot in the last two months though. Things that were cheaper than Aldi have gone back to being significantly more.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/03/2019 21:51

Sainsbury's have lowered a load of prices now. Their large chicken is now less than Aldi, for instance, and their loose sprouts are cheaper than Aldi's bagged ones. I'm sure there's other things which are cheaper.

They sent me an £8 off £50, so I'm using it this week, hence discovering the prices have changed.

littlemonkeyface · 16/03/2019 21:58

Supermarkets are preparing to introduce rationing for online shoppers to prevent panic buying in the event of a no-deal Brexit, The Sunday Times can reveal.

Thought this info may be of interest to people on this thread ...

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 21:58

Has the price lock ended? The prices changed at a similar time. Value mushrooms and broccoli were cheaper in Sainsbury's, bread was too til they stopped the value wholemeal.

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 22:01

That is good. Share it out between the unprepared rather than survival of the fittest/ richest.

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 22:02

The poor can not afford to stock up a lot or at all. They will need a constant supply of food.

wildchild554 · 18/03/2019 17:39

Went into our local caring cafe market today to pick up some groceries, for last 3 weeks been struggling to get fresh meat, vegetables and fruit, been pretty bare. Today I found out the usual donors have been holding back for brexit which makes it more worrying now. We'll be ok as I have made sure we have enough to get by at least but so many others probably haven't prepared.

BlackeyedGruesome · 18/03/2019 20:20

What is a caring cafe market?

wildchild554 · 18/03/2019 20:50

@BlackeyedGruesome It's a discount food market, runs off donations from supermarkets etc. They reduce the amount of food going to landfill basically and they have a cafe too

Parkrunner25 · 18/03/2019 20:54

Chickpeas and tinned tomatoes 4 for £1 at the front of Asda today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/03/2019 21:00

Do you think chickpeas will become the spam of our generation?

BlackeyedGruesome · 18/03/2019 23:12

Nah, too difficult to say chickpeas, chickpeas, egg and chickpeas. Just not got the same ring to it as spam, spam, spam, spam, spam..

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/03/2019 07:07

Another day, another shop to put away.

I'm in Tesco sneaking extra things for my mum. She's got about 2.5 weeks of dinners at home which isn't too bad but not great.

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/03/2019 15:23

Look around you, at least somewhere it will say every little helps.

Couple more days of stuff and she will have 3 week's worth.

I need to find places to disappear more stuff. Walked into town yesterday so got the resulting dip in energy today. I have just rage washed up over some poor poster's drive being blocked and how pissed off it would make me feel.

SparklySneakers · 19/03/2019 16:26

@BlackeyedGruesome I reckon she's got 4 weeks of stuff now. I sneaked quite a bit I to my trolley for her. Put £30 of diesel in the car too as who knows what will happen with all the shenanigans in the HoC.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 19/03/2019 16:36

I need to get DH to drive us somewhere to get diesel. I might combine it with a trip to Costco before my membership expires at the end of the month, just to see if there's any good deals on stuff we need / are hoarding.

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/03/2019 22:13

Milk will be our nemesis. Ds drinks loads. I have other things he will drink: squash, fizzy water, fruit juice.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/03/2019 22:42

It's peppers and apples here.
