This thread is for those prepping for brexit and building up their family stores for the possibility of no deal and food shortages and/or delays.
Suggestions welcome on what to stash.

Why let facts get in the way of a good sound bite (and total misrepresentation of the posters on this thread. Not cool, @MNHQ)?

bellinisurge · 12/03/2019 15:31

I agree @BlackeyedGruesome

SparklySneakers · 12/03/2019 17:53

Where can I get dried egg for mum please?

bellinisurge · 12/03/2019 18:35

Amazon sells loads of different options.

SparklySneakers · 12/03/2019 18:36

Just had a look and all seem large amounts. Do supermarkets sell them?
Adding a tub of parsley sauce to my mums stash and going through meal ideas with her.

I’ve tested out freezing individual eggs in silicon muffin tins and they defrosted really well. Ok in cooking, scrambled even poached. Just prick the yoke so it doesn’t go rubbery. Once frozen put them in freezer bags for months of free eggs.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/03/2019 18:56

I don't think I can listen at the moment, I'm cross enough at the situation without having us being misrepresented.

We are doing the opposite of causing shortages. By encouraging people to think ahead we've made things less critical, not more. I know that I'm now not needing to cram my trolley if we end up with No Deal.

NoWordForFluffy · 12/03/2019 19:33

Right. Operation freeze eggs is on tomorrow!

Dried eggs - the one I bought last year was a large pack of about one kilo but I think the bbe is about a year ahead. I chose that one as it gave such good and reassuring information. I only opened it the other day to make an omelette and thought it excellent. You don't need to keep it in a fridge, just an airtight container. I've just had a look on eBay and noticed other suppliers who sell smaller amounts like 250g. The seller I used last year is called Interegg (International Eggs) and is currently charging £17 for 900g. Pricey but does seem a very good product.Their current offer on eBay is at www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHOLE-EGG-POWDER-900-g-pack-for-HOME-COOKING-CATERING/233134470867?hash=item3647e5b6d3:g:M-UAAOSw5n5ZfwXp and from there you could probably quite easily find other sellers who do smaller amounts.

GeistohneGrenzen · 12/03/2019 21:59

Sparkly With ref to my above post re dried eggs - the 900g pack contains the equivalent of 75 medium eggs, so works out at just over 22.6p per egg. The big advantage for me is that they don't need fridge or freezer storage.
Try Googling supermarkets and dried eggs - smaller quantities but may work out more costly. Also be aware whether they're dried whole eggs, egg whites only, or 'vegan' eggs Smile

wildchild554 · 14/03/2019 10:40

For all those eczema sufferers out there and other dry skin conditions, aveeno is on clearance for £1.63 atm so good time to stock up, Have taken full advantage of it today :)

MadauntofA · 14/03/2019 10:56

Which shop wildchild?

listsandbudgets · 14/03/2019 13:48

I know its hardly essential but I've just bought a whole salami and a ring of chirizo. Keeps for ages and Brexit or no Brexit will get eaten here :)

think I've got everything now. I've just done my normal fortnightly shop and hopefull that's it now except bread and milk until the end of March. Apart from anything else don't think I can fit much else in!

listsandbudgets · 14/03/2019 13:50

Oh and if it all gets desperate, according to Jack Monroe, you can use the liquid in chickpea tins in place of eggs for baking. Its called aquafaba. I've no idea how well it works but may try it as an experiment

bellinisurge · 14/03/2019 13:52

Aquafaba is an established vegan alternative to egg white.

wildchild554 · 14/03/2019 14:14

@MadauntofA sorry forgot to say was boots

listsandbudgets · 14/03/2019 14:15

Oh well looks like we'll be living on chickpeas and vegan meringues then - well that and a few other bits.

crosstalk · 14/03/2019 14:39

Hi youse. Great prepper programme on R4

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0002ltd

Made me laugh.

MadauntofA · 14/03/2019 14:44

Thanks wildchild

Moorfields · 14/03/2019 23:03

Went to Morrison's today & bought a big box of Kellogg's cornflakes for £2 & 4 multibags of mini cadbury fingers for 50p each and a box of PG Tips 240 bags for £3.50. Tomorrow I'll buy more coffee as these are all shelf stable items it'll be ok to store for a while.

I'll start to run my freezer down over the next month, clean it out and restock for June. I'll also do an inventory over the weekend and take a note of expiry dates. It's not so urgent to stock up now so I'll take a break for a week & start again in a week.

BlackeyedGruesome · 15/03/2019 01:03

Wait until we are granted a delay. We might not get it.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/03/2019 12:53

If it's delayed until June it's because we've agreed the WA which means there's no crash out anyway. If it's a longer extension, then no deal is kicked way down the line. Either way, you can then eat your stash!

BlackeyedGruesome · 15/03/2019 14:56

June you say?

Oops Blush

Temptation took over.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/03/2019 15:50

😂

Moorfields · 16/03/2019 10:29

@BlackeyedGruesome I'm taking your advice & carrying on forward purchasing. Whatever happens re brexit, price rises are an absolute certainty so I'm picking up offers when I see them.
