Next stop: 27th Feb.

Where we will apparently have Cooper-Boles II which apparently will pass but still assumes that
a) the EU will grant us an extension despite our fuckwittery
b) that it will prevent accidental no deal, which it doesn't
c) glosses over the minor point that the only way to 100% prevent no deal is to say you'll revoke if everything else fails

Meanwhile in reality we leave in law on 29th March, despite the rest of the law having zero chance of being ready in time. Withdrawal Agreement and No Deal alike.

All that is actually happening is the Tories and Labour fighting amongst themselves. Corbyn is still pretending that Brexit isn't really that important and hoping it will just go away. May is still trying to compromise with the ERG - whom if you paying attention 18 months ago were obviously were never going to compromise on anything - cos they are fuckwitted swivel eyed loons.

Meanwhile the entire country has no other alternative but to assume no deal and act accordingly.

A deal on the 21st March (as is the planned date of the Meaningful Vote) is simply too late for planners. For them no deal has already happened even if it does never come to pass.

The strategy of brinkmanship has destroyed us. We just don't know it yet.

A Split in the Tory and Labour parties may well make matters even worse going forward with further political polarisation.

Where next for Brexit?

Who knows and does it even matter now? The damage is irreversible and will take at least a generation to heal wounds. Economically it may never be recoverable.

FUKD.

Thanks RTB.

So over a fortnight until anything else happens and even then nothing is certain? But she's not running down the clock... Hmm

lonelyplanetmum · 15/02/2019 07:13

Let's all offer a new amendment. No lunch for any MP until this ridiculous situation has a plan..

The sad thing is a tangible incentive like that would influence a sufficient margin of MPs to break the impasse.

Similarly, a tangible incentive for floating voters of 'remain and reform the EU and receive a £100 Tesco voucher' would have swung the 2016 balance the other way.

cherin · 15/02/2019 07:16

What was the difference in number of votes? 112.000 more for leave? That would have cost a thrifty 11.2millions, which is a fraction of what the companies I know (including mine) have already spent to “prepare”. (Inverted commas because nobody knows what to prepare to...)

cherin · 15/02/2019 07:19

Nah, sorry, number checked...it was 1.2 millions of difference. Bummer. Don’t think a 10£ voucher has the same power ;-)

cherin · 15/02/2019 07:23

(Still peppercorn, in perspective. Apartments in London being sold for 100m...)

NopeNi · 15/02/2019 07:28

I STILL, all this time later, can't get my head around it being an advisory referendum, with no real information, and a teeny tiny minority swaying one way, leading to all this fucking chaos. It makes my brain hurt.

lonelyplanetmum · 15/02/2019 07:37

What was the difference in number of votes?

112.000 more leave votes would have cost a thrifty 112 million which would have been a one off 0.005 % of annual GDP.

Using 2018 figures of GDP at 2,033,623 million.

lonelyplanetmum · 15/02/2019 07:39

Sorry 1.2 million votes at £100 a pop.

The point being a £100 bung as given to the DUP would have cost peanuts and swim games floating voters. Still would.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 15/02/2019 07:39

Just catching Steve Baker on BBC Breakfast can't reach the remote as I'm waiting for painkillers to kick in. He's just said no deal would bring some administration issues no shit and we'd have to work hard and fast to get trade deals in place shit trade deals then through desperation. I seem to remember this not being required when they were selling Leave during the referendum. The disingenuousness of these bastards Angry

bellinisurge · 15/02/2019 07:41

It's 101 of negotiating - don't be desperate.

lonelyplanetmum · 15/02/2019 07:43

Sorry loads of typos.Blush

I agree about the casual disregard for the advisory label.

The point hidden in my typos is one I've made before, a £100 voter's bung (bungs were given to the DUP after all) would have cost peanuts and would have swung floating voters. It still would. So many didn't give a toss about EU membership.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2019 07:51

I'm slightly confused as to why we are talking about bribing voters.

lonelyplanetmum · 15/02/2019 07:56

It resulted from saying incentivising MPs with lunch would focus their minds.

In the same way, a small incentive would have focussed voters' minds and have been hundreds of millions cheaper than an 8% drop in GDP.

Many voters didn't know much (or care) about the EU and an extra Christmas shopping voucher to show the trade benefits would probably have swung it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2019 07:58

I see are saying, I'm not sure that 'incentivising' is the way to go. Though maybe a free lollipop for turning up to vote might be good Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2019 07:59

I see what you are saying that was supposed to say!

RedToothBrush · 15/02/2019 08:06

Robert Peston @peston
After tonight’s voting debacle, the EU has more-or-less given up on @theresa_may delivering any kind of Brexit deal. For them it is now a party-splitting customs-union based deal backed by Tory and Labour MPs or a no-deal Brexit. This is a big moment

Morning all.
My sense of dread increases daily.
We are getting nowhere.

RedToothBrush · 15/02/2019 08:12

David Davis @ daviddavismp
Today I asked my successor as Brexit Secretary @SteveBarclay to confirm that, if the EU are not willing to agree a deal by 29 March, we will be leaving without a deal. He confirmed this is the case.

Alastair Burt @ alastairburtuk
No. We won’t. We are not leaving without a deal. If you want to leave, you’d better agree one. In the next fortnight would help

Tamara Cohen @ tsmcohen
Dominic Grieve says a dozen pro-European ministers would resign if we were heading for no deal at end of Feb - including several in cabinet. Frustration is certainly building...

Alastair Burt is a Minister at the FCO.

I didn’t know about the EU and the money for food banks/food aid.

I am so angry.

I am so fucking angry.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 15/02/2019 08:14

BBC News on R2 says May is still negotiating the backstop - opposite to Express. Seems to be a lot of news today Confused

SusanWalker · 15/02/2019 08:15

Leadsom on today describing yesterday as a 'hiccup'.

I love the way the Tories are blaming the opposition for the vote not going through and glossing over the people in their own party who didn't vote for it.

David Davis can fuck off and then fuck off some more.

What does he mean "fi the EU are not willing to agree a deal". We can't agree on one ourselves and he should know that more than anyone because he resigned and abdicated responsibility because he couldn't do it.

Lucygoeswalkies · 15/02/2019 08:17

Morning everyone. I would love to know how TM views herself.
