Next stop: 27th Feb.

Where we will apparently have Cooper-Boles II which apparently will pass but still assumes that
a) the EU will grant us an extension despite our fuckwittery
b) that it will prevent accidental no deal, which it doesn't
c) glosses over the minor point that the only way to 100% prevent no deal is to say you'll revoke if everything else fails

Meanwhile in reality we leave in law on 29th March, despite the rest of the law having zero chance of being ready in time. Withdrawal Agreement and No Deal alike.

All that is actually happening is the Tories and Labour fighting amongst themselves. Corbyn is still pretending that Brexit isn't really that important and hoping it will just go away. May is still trying to compromise with the ERG - whom if you paying attention 18 months ago were obviously were never going to compromise on anything - cos they are fuckwitted swivel eyed loons.

Meanwhile the entire country has no other alternative but to assume no deal and act accordingly.

A deal on the 21st March (as is the planned date of the Meaningful Vote) is simply too late for planners. For them no deal has already happened even if it does never come to pass.

The strategy of brinkmanship has destroyed us. We just don't know it yet.

A Split in the Tory and Labour parties may well make matters even worse going forward with further political polarisation.

Where next for Brexit?

Who knows and does it even matter now? The damage is irreversible and will take at least a generation to heal wounds. Economically it may never be recoverable.

FUKD.

I consider all Tory politicians to be psychopaths until proven otherwise.

Fixed that for you.

Flowerplower · 15/02/2019 10:45

Grin thanks DG!

LonelyandTiredandLow · 15/02/2019 10:52

DG back when the referendum was happening I noticed a lot of bots on fb - my trick was to post a link and ask their opinion = they can't do it.

67chevvyimpala · 15/02/2019 10:53

I've eaten half a bar of chocolate.

I dont see the higher half lasting the day....

Now Diabetes UK have unequivocally stated their position, are we going to hear from other big medical charities? Or have we heard from them already?

Hi Born.Glad you kept your name. As DGR would say what difference does it make! We can hear from the NHS and from the big medical charities but who will listen?

We have already heard from so many people ranging from Alan Sugar, John Major,Jeremy Clarkson, Martin Lewis, David Beckham, Tony Blair, CBI, Marks & Spencer, McDonald’s UK, Lidl, Co-op, Pret a Manger, KFC, Food and Drink federation ,Road haulage association, European Regions Airlines Association representing 50 airlines etc etc etc

The number 10 statement last night said the government will plough on against Parliament so a few other organisations doesn't make a difference.

The only thing that would make a difference is a clear sign that the Tories are losing votes and sadly that sign doesn't seem to becoming from the people.

Sorry to be so cynical.

The more this goes on I am preferring my definition of being a 'Citizen of nowhere' (but European leaning) rather than being British.

67chevvyimpala · 15/02/2019 11:00

Yep

DGRossetti · 15/02/2019 11:10

I did notice a pattern where they'd seem to respond, but a careful reading showed that it wasn't actually engaging with the post. Just words around a theme. Shouldn't really be a surprise. After all there are companies who have a stock reply to any complaint which looks like they've taken the time and trouble to address your points. Right up until you suddenly realise that the letter could be sent to anyone with certain key phrases mailmerged. Which is enough for (I'm guessing) 80% of the time.

Yeah absolutely. I've lived in an EU country long enough to qualify for citizenship but have never taken it because it meant giving uk citizenship which I had have feelz about. All my doubts have been removed.

InterchangeableEmma · 15/02/2019 11:26

Sorry: giving up uk citizenship

Feelz were all so much sunlit wolds uplands.

67chevvyimpala · 15/02/2019 11:28

Fuck it.
Im having a sausage roll

DGRossetti · 15/02/2019 11:29

For me, I think the point of no return was when it became apparent that even if the Queen were to issue a plea to reverse Brexit for the sake of the nation of a union four countries, instead of Brexiteers doffing their "Blighty is best" seaside hats (with "Kiss me Quick" on the reverse) they would simply be claiming she'd been "got at" by the liberal elite.

Or in other words, Brexit is an excuse, a reason, a motivation, a justification, for ignoring the rule of law. We return to burning people to save their souls.

Remember, there really are Breixteers out there who would (and have) happily denounced Remainers as brainwashed and not really understanding what they are advocating. With a straight face too.

ContinuityError · 15/02/2019 11:33

Who is she negotiating with? The Downing St Cat?

I reckon she’d pretty quickly be down several cases of tuna and a lifetime’s supply of catnip.

DarlingNikita · 15/02/2019 11:41

Missed another thread Confused Grin Thanks Red.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 15/02/2019 11:47

DG if in doubt you can post a funny meme. I found just saying "what do you think of this?" with link (i.e no hint of what it contained) would wheedle them out.

BiglyBadgers · 15/02/2019 11:47

I've decided now is the time to learn to sew my own clothes. Just finished a jacket off from scratch (my own pattern and everything) and I am feeling strangely much calmer about things. At least I feel I have a useful skill I can swap for food now. Grin

Littlespaces · 15/02/2019 11:48

Is there a reasonably simple document (think one or two sides of A4) which lists the factually proven downsides of Brexit, so that I can show my 'Leave means Leave' 'We Won' family that they are playing with a horrible fire that will come back to burn them?

Anyone come across such a document?

InterchangeableEmma · 15/02/2019 11:50

Yes, DGR. I'd been in deep denial but that did it for me too even though I wasn't yet ready to admit it🦄

Tonsilss · 15/02/2019 11:53

Apparently the Young Conservatives compete to be as right wing as possible. All about ideology now.

67chevvyimpala · 15/02/2019 11:54

I'm debating getting a sewing machine.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/02/2019 11:54

Presumably because of the number of bets and hence bookies trying to safeguard their profit vs loss

John Rentoull@JohnRentoul*

Betting market still thinks there’s only 30% chance UK will leave EU on 29 March

BiglyBadgers · 15/02/2019 11:59

Everyone should have a sewing machine 67chevvy. It's just one of those useful things. Generally I enjoy handsewing far more than using the machine but I do love my sewing machine for zooming things up.

I was thinking yesterday of the little handle powered singer machine I had when I was a kid. It was gorgeous and obviously great because it was hand powered. Wish I still had it now.

bellinisurge · 15/02/2019 12:04

I agree on a sewing machine. I'm in my 50s and have one my parents bought me for my 18th.
I intermittently use it for curtains, etc. Made my dd a huge Harry Potter themed snuggle blanket using a couple of fleece ones bought from Primark.
Sewing is a handy skill to have. My Dad taught me. His dad taught him. Mum hated it.

Cedilla · 15/02/2019 12:06

I have four sewing machines

You can often pick up hand-cranked Singers for very little money at charity shops. Worth looking out for.
