What will happen now?

OP posts:
Namechangeragain01 · 16/01/2019 06:55

I think that there are a lot of shy Leavers on here.

ToeToToe · 16/01/2019 06:55

I do - my neighbours, and my mum voted Leave - and regret it now.

Both say if they'd known then what they know now, they would have voted Remain.

Wotev · 16/01/2019 06:57

Also, I find on here particularly, that Leavers are called idiots/muppets/thick/racist/prejudiced/xenophobic/uneducated/didn't know what they were voting for/didn't think etc. etc. etc. so they just don't speak. Who wants that vitriol thrown at you? But from talking to friends etc. who voted to leave, not one single person that I've spoken to has changed their minds.
Clearly, we keep our mouth shuts, but it might just be a silent majority.

Wotev · 16/01/2019 06:59

Well there's always one........

twofingerstoEverything · 16/01/2019 07:00

I don't think it's been mentioned on here, but imagine if Gina Miller hadn't gone to court to ensure that any Brexit deal had to be voted on by parliament. We have a lot to thank her for.

Wotev · 16/01/2019 07:02

Why? Because we end up with no deal? Great. Thanks a bunch Gina.

Wotev · 16/01/2019 07:03

I actually don't know what was in the deal? I don't know why so many voted against it.
Can anyone summarise it?
Or is it a National secret?

Namechangeragain01 · 16/01/2019 07:03

Wotev
I agree. I find the patronising comments funny more than anything. Best not to rise to it.

twofingerstoEverything · 16/01/2019 07:03

While I understand the disdain for Corbyn (I think he's a twat), I really cannot understand why people think he could be any worse than the current shower. Seriously, how could you sit through the last two years of Brexit, watch the response to Grenfell, read about the Windrush scandal and the unfolding of the very damaging universal credit debacle etc etc and think he would be worse? Seriously?

abbsisspartacus · 16/01/2019 07:04

I was tempted by leave but ultimately chose remain due to our government being incompetent and I didn't believe the leave campaigns one bit it had nothing to do with racism and a lot more complicated I have seen Europe as a whole not "allowing" us the same leeway as other member states but of course part if that issue is our own government

Wotev · 16/01/2019 07:09

Oh I don't rise to it. This is the first time I've dared to admit I voted to leave - I literally don't need that kind of crap in my life. But there is never any discussion as to why a MAJORITY of voters voted to leave. Never. No discussion whatsoever. Just castigation of over 50% of people. It's all very silly really. People seem to think that we saw a bus and listened to Nigel Farage on loop. Nope. People have brains and eyes and ears and live in this country. They can make their own decisions, all on their own would you believe.

Namechangeragain01 · 16/01/2019 07:10

A neighbour of mine thinks its all part of a long term plan.
Basically -
We crash out with no deal
Country struggles badly for a few years
We beg the EU to let us rejoin
They say yes, but only if we adopt the Euro and agree to closer integration.
UK agrees out of desperation.

Paradyning · 16/01/2019 07:12

@Wotev
100% of guys working in construction for example, would be pro Brexit.

Bold claim!

MigGril · 16/01/2019 07:13

This deal was never going to be voted through no matter who put it forward. It leaves us in an ever worse position then we currently are. Possibly being leagly tied to the EU indefinitely with no getout for us but with no say in the EU, it was a very bad deal. I would have very upset if they had voted it through. But then are the EU ever going to give us a reasonable deal to leave I think not, but even they keep saying they don't want a no deal.

The government needs to stop arguing amongst themselves and get on with it though.

Coming from a vote remain. I'm not sure there is any going back now.

lonelyplanetmum · 16/01/2019 07:15

Gina Miller hadn't gone to court to ensure that any Brexit deal had to be voted on by parliament. We have a lot to thank her for.

This isn't quite right.GM established that Parliament had to vote on triggering Article 50.

The meaningful vote on the Withdrawal agreement resulted from amendments to the draft legislation tabled by Dominic Grieve.

Namechangeragain01 · 16/01/2019 07:17

Wotev
Ah yes, that bloody bus! Some people probably were swayed by that or Farage but it's insulting to think that 52% of us were so easily led.
I read a comment on the guardian that the ref result shouldn't be honoured as people are too thick - they voted for what they wanted rather than what they need.
People on the whole don't take kindly to being called thick.

Wotev · 16/01/2019 07:22

Glad to have a fellow leaver here. Figured I'd be a lone wolf haha.
Anyway, Leave or Remain, it looks like we're stuck with no fucking deal now, so we're screwed any which way you look at it!

Frouby · 16/01/2019 07:24

@wotev

We work in construction. Dh is 51, been in since he was 19, family all worked in the steel works or pits. He voted remain and I would say its a 50/50 split in the trade. On paper DH should have been a diehard leaver. He doesn't want another recession.

Interestingly since the referendum the building trade has picked up. Prices have gone up, there is more work around. The building trade is normally affected first if there is going to be a problem. And most of our work has been commercial stuff not house building. And we are in the North.

Wotev · 16/01/2019 07:25

And can I just ask again, if anyone has access to a summary of the deal that was on the table could they post it please?

NigellasGuest · 16/01/2019 07:30

If anyone wants to know why so many people voted Leave, they should watch Brexit - The Uncivil War.

Wotev have you heard of google?

Wotev · 16/01/2019 07:32

And I am not speaking for every Brexiter here! Others had different reasons, fishing quotas, the amount we contributed to the pot etc. I'm just talking about my reasons, in case anyone jumps on that bandwagon!

Wotev · 16/01/2019 07:36

Thanks MigGril. There's nothing in that article about immigration.
Again I ask the question, why did over 2/3rds vote No to this deal? And again I suggest, that more people than you suspect are Leavers.
